Datagridview Linked To A DataTable Loaded From A Sql Server Via An Adapter?
Apr 27, 2010I have a datagridview linked to a dataTable loaded from a sql server via an adapter.I wish to sort one of the column: Filenumber.The Columns is a string. For example:
M-099
M-756
M-777
M-1000
But when i sort the columns by using Me.DataGrid.Sort(DataGrid.Columns(9), System.ComponentModel.ListSortDirection.Ascending), it turns out to be:
M-099
M-1000
M-756
M-777
I would like to know how to sort it like:
M-099
M-756
M-777
M-1000
How should i go about it? I've thought of getting rid of the M- in front and putting it into another column, but it makes filtering nuisance.Also, is it true the a custom sort via an IComparer is only applicable to things without a binding source?
Refresh Combobox Values After Updating Its Datatable And Adapter
Jul 8, 2008on a windows form i have a combobox called currency, it is populated by a table-adapter called exchan-gerate which is turn populated by a dataset called mydataset. on form load, i issue update commands to the back-end database that holds the table which populates the dataset - they work. if i look at the update to the combobox, they are not reflected until i exit and restart the app - then they're fine. further down the form load i've tried:
Me.exchangerate.Update(Me.DataSet.Currency)
Me.CurrencyComboBox.Refresh()
am i missing something silly to have the values in the combobox change and refresh at the time of the update to the database? as i said, an exit and restart of the app displays the accurate data.

I need to look for a Datarow in the datatable containing a specific value in one of its column ("ID") and when found should set the other column value ("Value") on the same Datarow. How to do it?I tried the following to get the DataRow:

May 20, 2011I have a datagridview bound to a datatable setting its datasource property to the datatable. I would like to have a child form that contains a list of columns associated with the datatable that contains a checkbox that will allow the user to hide and show the columns ( I do not know the best control to use here) (I assume this is the easy part as All i need to do is loop through each of the datatable's columns to get the column name)
now I would like save these visible columns on some event like form_closing so that the next time the user opens the form up it will remember the settings

Apr 16, 2012I came across a problem with using a BindingSource as my DataGridViews.DataSource. Whenever I applied a filter to a column in the BindingSource and the user makes changes that don't match the column filter the DataGridViewRows would automatically disappear. A similar thing would happen when applying a Sort to a column. If the user made any changes the DridGirdViewRows would automatically sort causing rows to be moved around. This was not ideal for my application and there isn't anyway to stop this from happening with the BindingSource.
To correct this issue I have to use subsets of data. I use a DataView to apply the filter and sort to the main DataTable, which creates the subset DataTable.The problem is when I use the DataView.ToTable method I loose the Primary Key and RowError information. So I have to reapply this information everytime the user filters or sorts the DataGridView.Is there a better way to get a subset DataTable?[code]...

How can I run this query to a datatable? I know .select but that's not enough like dataset.datatable("name").select(filter,short). Still need distinct.

One form has a DataGridView that displays data from a SQLServer table via a TableAdapter and BindingSource whose filter is set as I need it. Elsewhere on the same form I would like to show totals for four columns of the same table, but from a totally different set of rows. All I've been able to figure out is to create another TableAdapter - but this seems foolish since the SQL table data has already been brought into my application by the first TableAdapter.Is there a way to run a query on the DataTable that was filled by the first TableAdapter, and how do I get the query results?

However, the data is in detail and I want to ultimately summarize by customer name.The code below has a commented sql statement that is the statement I ultimately want but it is not working. However, the idea is that I want to Select from one datatable into another but run aggregate sum on several columns so that I will get one record per customer showing totals for each column.So I broke it down to just pull all data possible into the second table.[code]I do know the grouping in the current select * statement does nothing but my issue is more that the columns do not show up.

Aug 19, 2009I have a function (GetData) that parses a SQL string, makes a connection to a SQL Server and dumps the result to a DataTable. It works perfectly on a series of SQL calls I have. I have new query I have added and now the function balks at the adapter.Fill(table) call. I do not understand why the call fails. The SQL portion works fine when run directly against the SQL database (Management Studio). I am thinking the fuctions not capable of dealing with the subquery somehow, just not sure why.
