I am looking to write my own media library and was wondering are there any free .Net APIs out there to identify a product based on a given barcode? As a secondary point are there .Net APIs to return cover art for books, CD, games etc based on a barcode.
View 3 RepliesI have encountered a table with five fields refering to a customer list. The fields (c1, c2, etc..) are id's of the customer in the other table. Need a SQL statement that will resolve the customer names into a report with on line and the five entires. Example:

I am using Richard L. Grier's Enhanced Serial Port dll to read input from a serial port barcode scanner I notice that the datareceived event fires only once per barcode scan, but the delegate sub fires twice per barcode scan. Once for 1st half of Barcode , 2nd for 2nd part of barcode This makes it hard to capture the full barcode so it can be passed to routines in my vb.net 2008 windows application In Richard's example 'Test Enhanced Port' program he sends it to a textbox using .selectedtext and it works fine Richards Delegate code ......................

I am trying to set a variable to the full barcode to pass to routines, instead of writing to a textbox but am not having any success
I am a student and I am about to make a program that will use a barcode scanner well ofcourse to scan a barcode. My problem is i don't know what library to use and what certain things i need to do so that when i am going to scan a barcode it'll be something like show it on a textbox and pull something from the database. i've actually research some. i've seen mscomm1 (not so sure about that) and POS for .net (haven't fully understood its use) were those will help me develop my program?i have a metrologic ms9520 Voyager barcode scanner. and i am going to create a program for it in vb2005.

I have an Access 2007 database connected to SQL Server 2005. I want to use VB to create an application that will retrieve and manipulate data in our SQL database. View 2 RepliesI am building a program that calculates the number of books by points.Ex: 1-3 books read are worth 10 points, 4-6 are worth 15 and > 6 are worth 20. The issue I'm having is getting it to calculate the the first 3 books, the 2nd 3 books and then the > 6.Ex: User inputs 8 books read. It should display 115 in the label.
1. I'm using an If statement (should I be)
2. Could I use a decimal for the > 6?
Ex: intTotalNumberOfBooks = (intTotalNumberOfBooks * intFirst3Books) *#D

There is a 6%. sales tax on the total cost of the items in the shopping cart and a 2 dollars shipping charge per item in the shopping cart. to remove an item from the shopping cart, the user selects it in the list box and clicks the remove button. the subtotal, tax, shipping, an total fields should be adjusted accordingly.
To add one of the items in the list to the shopping cart, the user selects it and clicks the add book to cart button. to cancel the operation, the user clicks the cancel button. I am using a standard module to declare global variables. My file is attach I have the problem that everytime I add a new item, it will just add 2 and then I add another item and it add 2 it does not show the subtotal or the tax and shipping and the real total....

I want to create a lookup program for library books using VB6 or VB.net.
I have created a Form1.VB with two listboxes :- Listbox1 Listbox2.
Im using an Access Database with a Library Category Table
Field1: Category
Library Title Table
Field1: Category
Field2: Title
Field3: Author
Field4: Publisher
Using the Data Adapter ConfigurationWizard Ive created
OleDBDataAdapter1
OleDBConnection1
And from the Library Category table Ive created Dataset1 attached to Listbox1

And from the Library Title table Ive created Dataset2 attached to Listbox2.
Both Datasets fill using the Preview Data function. I then load Variable CategoryString with Listbox1.text,
and I would like to know how to search Dataset2 and retrieve all titles linked to that category and display Title, Author, Publisher in listbox2.
I am a self taught "developer".I use the term loosely because I only know enough to make myself dangerous. I have no theory background, and I only pick up things to get this little tool to work or make that control do what I want.
That said, I am looking for some reading material that explains some of the theory behind application development especially from a business standpoint. Really I need to understand what all of these terms that float around really talk about. Business Logic Layer, UI abstraction level and all that. Anyone got a reading list that they feel helped them understand this stuff? I know how to code stuff up so that it works. It is not pretty mostly because I don't know the elegant way of doing it, and it is not planned out very well (I also don't know how to plan an application).
I have been looking for like 3 hours trying to find a dll or anything to make a simple cards game, but everything I find is oriented to C.
In this page A FreeCell game using Cards.dll - CodeProject� they talk about just what I want, but I cannot make it work in Visual Studio 2008 using Visual Basic.net, I don�t know if that has anything to do with the Vista OS I am using.
In the page I mention the author says "There are many good articles on the net on how to use the Cards dynamic link library" and I am sure the good articles are there, but my good luck has make me looping around the same nonsense results so I end up with nothing after 3 hours search.
The game I want to make is just something for a project we must do in class, how to start making a cards game fast and simple. If someone knows about a cards dll that works fine with vbnet, that someone would be my new hero.

View 6 Repliesthe thing is that i am creating a little launcher shell that will start on a lan-party computer full with games.all the things i am doing with it is for my own use only and will not be used for harmfull stuff. in the other topic i got the intention that they thought i was a cracker of hacker or something.im am just creating a launcher app that launches my games without the use of explorer.exe to be loaded with windows.i have done several things to try to load a game when i press a button but they always crash. when i start the games normally there is no problem.first i thought it needed the use of explorer.exe but when i tested my app with explorer.exe running i got the same result. so i think its my app that is causing the problem.

as for the people who replied in the other topic. the register files you have seen in my code was for activating the GameShell.exe to run as shell instead of the explorer.exe for the current user and for all users and to restore it to explorer.exe.
