I can download the vb.net 10 Language Specification from Microsoft here 600+ Pages is a lot to print out. So I want to know is there a Dead Tree version (A book)? If so, where can it purchased?

View 3 RepliesWith XP set to a language such as Spanish (Spain), the VBA-in-Excel function "Excel.Version" returns the text string "11.0" (not "11,1"). It does not respect the language setting.
"CLng(Excel.Version)" then produces the value "110" (wrong!), perhaps because CLng respects the language setting and is looking for a comma instead of a period.
The work-around is easy. But I need to know if switching to another language requires a setting that my client in Spain missed, or is this just a bug.
If it is a bug, is the problem limited to this one function (Excel.Version), or are there other functions that return values in text format that are affected?
I'm working with an inherited code base which contains thousands of lines of commented out code. I know the previous coder meant to save all his hard work for posterity rather than simply deleting it but: I will never read it and it just gets in the way. One problem example is that when I perform text searches for certain code segments I gets dozens of "false" hits in the commented code. Is there a quick/easy way to detect large blocks of commented out code? A clever RegEx perhaps? I happen to be working in VB.NET at this time and comment character is a single apostrophe.

I am mainly a Java/C++ developer.The program displays the tree structure and allows files and folder to be selected. The program is getting errors with FileSystemTreeView when trying to return nodes on a system with a reserved partition.Here is what is happening: tree.SelectedNode = tree.Nodes(0) 'returns error with system reserved partition.calling, GetDriveList() will properly return all the drive letters - and not throw an error. Only when trying to get a tree.Node() or tree.load() is the error occurring.

I found some very complicated examples, but managed to put the pieces together into this simple test program.I first import System.IO.Portsthen I define a new serial port and give it the required parametersI open the com port when the form loadsI have two working buttons, one to pan left, one to stop panning. The DevExpress download link for CodeRush Xpress (found here CodeRush Xpress for C# and Visual Basic inside Visual Studio 2010), Download CodeRush Xpress seems to lead to a dead download. The page is there but when the auto-download kicks off or you manually try to Start download, we're gettting a 404 error. The download worked fine last night... There's no obvious way to ping the MSDN VB Dev Center nor DevExpress to let them know about this issue...

In my winform app in VB.NET I want to use the localization option. But i have a few questions/problems. I'm using a menu strip to select an other language. But it seems that is doesn't change my menustip text to my selected language. It does change my labels, buttons, and textboxes but menu strips don't seem to change when I choose another language. Also is it possible to get those resx files such as MyForm.fr-FR.resx compiled so it isn't an external file outside my app? Or to get those files in an Language folder at the same location of my app, so i don't have all those fr-FR & nl-Nl folders in the same location as my program?

View 4 RepliesI'm creating an API for a website. I'm using ASP.Net MVC 3 and I'm trying to create routes that support an optional .format parameter. So the client app could request /user/post.json, /user/posts.xml or just /users/posts I was able to make the .json or .xml ending url's work using the following route:

But I couldn't make the url without the .format parameter (/user/posts) work alongside.
Program works but data is not saved in database and so it executes "Not According to Specification

I am trying to make an oledb connection to an Access database.
1. I added a component class.It said drag from the toolbox to add components.
2. I dragged over the Oledbconnection and OledbdataAdapter
3. I clicked on new connection string for the oldeb Connection and try to connect to the SHX.mdb datababase in the debug/ bin folder I don't have a username or password for the database and do not want to set one up.( is this possible in .net?)
4.As soon as I try to test the connection, I get the "invalid authorization specification" message. I can't get past this and do not really understand why I am getting this message.I have vb 2005 standard edition, not express edition.The exact same thing happens when I try to set up the data adapter to the shx.mdb database.
I am on XP2 and not logged in with a password or username. Could this be the issue or is there something else I am overlooking.Also, since I am coming from vb6 and ADO is there anyway to just write the code without having to use datasets, adapters and oledb connections to bound controls?

I have multilingual application that was done in VB2005.We recently had a request to translate the application to Arabic (Egypt), so I have been happily running through all of the forms and changing the layout for Right to Left format.I have 2 forms that are problematic though.On one form, whenever I select Arabic (Egypt), it will automatically switch the selection to Arabic (Saudi Arabia) and try to add an ar-SA resx file.On the other problematic form, if I choose Arabic (Egypt), the IDE will automatically select Chinese (People's Republic of China), then copy the contents of my ar-EG resx file into the zh-CN file, overwriting all of our Chinese translations and layout changes with the Arabic ones.

Is there any way to make my programs use a lower version of net.framework other than the newest version 4 that comes with VS2010?I use my programs within a closed network and there isn't an easy way for me to install any software since I'm not the administrator.

I have created a license system for my application with MySql about half a year ago. What it would do is take the serial number and send it to my server if the key was correct it would return a 0 if its wrong the return value would be a 1.The problem was that when the serial number was entered correctly my program would create a "fake file" for example vb.dll in the system.And on run time my program would check for that vb.dll if the file exist it would skip my trial program and run the app as a full version. Half year later i think creating a "fake file" and checking for it on start up is extremely wrong and that's not very good security.How can i check the difference between a full version and unregistered version?
