I'm building a website, and I am trying to create a connection to the database. Here is the Connection code in my web.config file:[code]And this highlights the Connection string in the VB.NET code behind page. I've checked the details of the original connection string contained within the web.config file, and I've used the ConnectionStrings.com website for the actual code. I'm at a loss to explain or to figure out why this isn't working?
I'm creating an API for a website. I'm using ASP.Net MVC 3 and I'm trying to create routes that support an optional .format parameter. So the client app could request /user/post.json, /user/posts.xml or just /users/posts I was able to make the .json or .xml ending url's work using the following route:
routes.MapRoute( _ "no_params", _
[code]....
But I couldn't make the url without the .format parameter (/user/posts) work alongside.
I am just learning VB. My problem is the following "Input string was not in a correct format."
Dim fmtStr As String = "{0,-12} {1,10:C2) {2,7:C2}" lstDisplay.Items.Add(String.Format(fmtStr, "Item", "Quantity", "Price")) lstDisplay.Items.Add(String.Format(fmtStr, "pizza slices", QP, Pizza))
I get the above message or one that states the following: "Index (zero based) must be greater than or equal to zero and less than the size of the argument list." My teacher is of no help, she tells me to submit the project and she will tell me then. I have submitted a project with the same problem and she told me it worked. I know it didn't. Can someone explain what these messages mean ?
Let's say I have a textfile which contains paragraphs. Some of the paragraphs start with * or a > character. How do I index the words that start with these characters?
The reason this is being done is at this point we have no idea what the column contains. However, if the formatter is "{0:MM/dd/yyyy}" and the DataRow("ColumnINeed") is an integer containing 42, String.Format is returning: MM/dd/yyyy In this situation I need it to throw an exception instead of returning nonsense. Is there anyway to make String.Format throw an exception if the object does not match what the format string is expecting?
So I need a format string to pass to String.Format that would "move" the decimal point.I can't perform any math operations before doing the String.Format, so it has to work right off the bat.Basically I'm emulating a formatting string from a proprietary server. In it if I say:
"MR2"
for the value:
12345
The result is:
123.45
I'm close with this, but it's not spot on:
String.Format("{0:#0.##}", 12345)
an extra, but not necessary... there is also MR2Z, which moves the decimal 2 left, but if the value is 0 "" is returned.
I need to take a string formatted like '010711' (DDMMYY) and put it into format '01-Jul-11'. Ive thought about doing something like string.toArray and then having some conditionals that format from there but am looking for an easier way.
it was regarding in vb.net text operations, i want to replace the text by finding some particular text.but the problem arises when the starting and the at the end delimiter of the string is something same every-time but middle thing keeps on changing so how can i work out with that?? str = Replace(str, "abcdparameter = xyz123;", "abcdarameter = my defined parameter;")
i tried to learn some regular expressions but i am not able to get that.the xyz 123 is same every-time....and also there is one delimiter at the end of the parameter string so anyhow you can select the whole line and replace it.
I have a List(of String()). I have written a custom comparer (implements IComparer(of string)) to do an alphanumeric sort.Is there a way to sort the List using a given index to determine which position in the String() to sort by? In other words one time I might sort by Index = 0 and another time by Index = 3. The length of all String() in the list is the same. For reference this question is similar to Sort List<String[]> except I am using VB.net and that question is hardwired to Index=0.
EDIT from OP's comments:I started simple with the non custom comparer but I am getting an error: expression does not produce a value. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Here is the code:
Public Shared Function SortListOfStringArray(ByVal ListOfStringArray As List(Of String()), ByVal SortByIndex As Integer) As List(Of String()) Return ListOfStringArray.Sort(Function(x, y) x(SortByIndex).CompareTo(y(SortByIndex))) End Function
I'm making a program and was wondering if someone could please help me (its a console app) to display words from a string that the user has inputted starting with certain characters?
I already got the processor specifiaction, like its manufacturer as well as its speed; i found it in registry . Now here is my point, how about for the other specification? like RAM specification, where can i locate it. I'm finding the processor, RAM, HDD, NIC, Video Card, and Motherboard.
I have a field that I display via: String.Format({0:c},amount) This produces the string "$28.28" However, when I try to convert back to a decimal amount, I get an incorrect format exception: amount = Decimal.Parse(amount.Text, NumberStyles.Currency) I also tried it with NumberStyles.AllowCurrencySymbol with the same results. I verified that the value in amount.Text is "$28.28". Am I missing something? Shouldn't these two operations use the same currency symbol and formats?
I can download the vb.net 10 Language Specification from Microsoft here 600+ Pages is a lot to print out. So I want to know is there a Dead Tree version (A book)? If so, where can it purchased?
I'm trying to create a print function with a corresponding print preview. For some reason, any string I create with String.Format will NOT show up on the print preview! Use the code snippet below as an example:
Dim strTemp As String strTemp = String.Format("{0, 210} {1, 75} {2, 51} {3, 200} ", "NAME", "PRICE", "QUANTITY", "DESCRIPTION")
rs2.Fields("Field29").Value has values like "YYYYMMDD" in a string.how can i convert a "YYYYMMDD" string to a needed date format like 'dd mmm yy' (or any format)
I am trying to make an oledb connection to an Access database.
1. I added a component class. It said drag from the toolbox to add components.
2. I dragged over the Oledbconnection and OledbdataAdapter
3. I clicked on new connection string for the oldeb Connection and try to connect to the SHX.mdb datababase in the debug/ bin folder I don't have a username or password for the database and do not want to set one up.( is this possible in .net?)
4.As soon as I try to test the connection, I get the "invalid authorization specification" message. I can't get past this and do not really understand why I am getting this message.I have vb 2005 standard edition, not express edition. The exact same thing happens when I try to set up the data adapter to the shx.mdb database.
I am on XP2 and not logged in with a password or username. Could this be the issue or is there something else I am overlooking. Also, since I am coming from vb6 and ADO is there anyway to just write the code without having to use datasets, adapters and oledb connections to bound controls?
I am trying to use string.format on a url to pass several values into the string. It's probably a simple error but I cannot get the following code to work. It doesn't even build the string.
Public Sub getStockData() Dim client As New WebClient() Dim url As String
I'm trying to extract a piece of text from within the string, defining both a starting point and an ending point. For instance, say I want to search for the text found between "That is a " and " car" in the string "That is a red car", so it would return "red".I know you can use .SelectionStart and SelectionLength, but the length of the word can change, so the selection length can vary. What I want is to establish a specific starting point and a specific ending point from which to extract the text from the string.
I have a text file that is automatically generated by an older computer system daily. Unfortunately, the columns in this file are not delimited and they are not exactly fixed width (each day the width of each column could change depending on the amount of chars of the data in each column). The file does have column headings, so I want to find the width of each column using the column headings. Here is an example of the column heading row:
JOB_NO[variable amount of white space chars]FILE_NAME[variable amount of ws chars]PROJECT_CODE[variable amount of ws chars][carriage return]
What I want to do is get the index of of the first char in a column and the index of the last white space of a column (from the column heading). I would want to get the index of the "J" in JOB_NUM and the last white space before the "F" in FILE_NAME for the first column.I guess I should also mention that the columns may not always be in the same order from day to day but they will have the same header names. I know I can use the string.indexOf("JOB_NO") to get the index of the start of the column, but how do I get the index of the last white space in each column? (or last whitespace before the next first non-whitespace that denotes the start of the next column)
I have an List(of String), i need to find the index of a particular string in that list. I have searched msdn , but i am confused over the predicate methods. I have never used predicates. This i what i have tried
vb 'on button1 click Dim Heads As List(Of String) = Me.GetSelectedNodes() Dim tmp As Integer
