Is there a way to programmaticly get the failed logon count for local Windows users in XP and later? Alternatively, is there a way for my service to get a message when a failed logon occurs? Currently coding in VB.NET, but will take any suggestions in any language.

View 1 RepliesI am currently creating an application to track timekeeping (a clock in/out system) and I am trying to work out the best way to do this.
I have a Main Form which contains buttons to ;
- Log in
- Out for Break
- In from Break
- Log out
When a user presses the "log in" button the logon form appears, the user then enters their username and password. What happens next is where I would like the help.
Process is as follows:Click Logon Enter Username/Password Check Logon Form for errors (eg no password etc) Check User is in Database (using SQL query) If user is in DB and username and pass are ok then refer back to the main form to perform Stored Procedure for what the user wants to do (eg logon or or out for break etc). Set label on main form to show user as logged on My question is should I be using a public variable and calling the main form again or in the user logon form having 4 options and using an IF ELSE to select the appropriate Stored Procedure?
I am wanting to create a logon similar to the Windows Live logon, so in other words. user has frmLogon and is located in Australia. The user enters his/her details and then the program connects to a server in the United States and checks the Username and Password to make sure it is correct if it is correct it allows the user to logon and move to the next stage, if it is wrong it will give him an error message. I am wondering if anyone has a tutorial or source code laying around that I can rip apart and see how it works. I want to put the database on my server and connect to it from my desktop using the logon form.

I am currently creating a tool that can manage local user accounts on Windows-PCs. I am using the functions described on
this MSDN page ; and after some struggling, I got most of them to work.
Unluckily, I haven't found a way to set the option "User must change password at next logon" while creating a new user account. I use the
NetUserAdd -Function to create the new user. I set the level to 1 and supply a
USER_INFO_1 -Structure . This structure accepts flags, and the flag UF_PASSWORD_EXPIRED seems to be exactly what I want - but when I set it, the user can log on without changing the password first...

So I currently have the following:
2 timers
2 labels
1st label is "Clock" this pulls the time from the users current time zone/local time
2nd label is "UTCClock" Which would be UTC time
Now I have this for the first label: clock.Text = Format(TimeOfDay, "hh:mm:ss tt")
Which would give the users current time zone/local time. As for the UTC.. how would I add in for the UTC time from where the user is located at? I did some searches.. but couldnt find what I was looking for.. IM pretty sure its not as easy as getting the users current time zone/local time.. So im assuming that Theres a "bit more" code into getting UTC time..

There excepion message I get is: The requested Performance Counter is not a custom counter, it has to be initialized as ReadOnly. I looked for a property to see if I can set it but couldn't find one.

The dataset for the database is in my solution explorer but when I right click on a table adapter to add a query and attempt to open up the query builder, I get the error in the title above.

View 3 RepliesI created a typed dataset a day or so ago, then I added a whole bunch of tableadapter/tables with some relationships etc... suddenly out of nowhere it decides my dataset "is not defined". everywhere in my code where i use this dataset now has an error. I tried not to pull out my hair and do a Clean then Rebuild solution... out of nowhere it just refuses to generate code. Object reference not set to an instance of an Object. It would be nice if it was my object so i could find it but it's not.
Curiously I also lost the little database icon on the dataset in the solution explorer.I can still open it in the designer and preview my queries etc... it just wont make the code. it's driving me insane. anyone got a solution?

I did a quick google search however all I could find are tutorials that make the form and database in the same project which localizes the database.. I want to put the database on my server and connect to it from my desktop using the logon form..

Essentially, I need to update the Logon To attribute to include 1 or more PCs, how do I go about doing this? I learned that I am interested in the IADsUser property "LoginWorkstations" url...). View 2 RepliesI need to logon to a NAS Drive to query directory listings. All users will be logging into a domain. The NAS also has security set up on it with a different username password.
I will have a handful of users (maybe 10 - each logging into the same domain, but from different pc's) that will need to access a NAS Drive to query a directory structure. All will have physical access, and can connect via windows explorer (manually entering a user and pass).
During my first attempt via my app - I get the error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password" Which is good cause I only want a handful of users logging on to this drive. If I logon to the drive via Windows Explorer and then go back to the app and it works.
So what I did was create a multi form app.
- At launch the parent form loads (as well as a logon window within that form). The logon window auto fills a text box with a username. That is pulled from the current logged on user - or can be replaced. I would like each user to then enter a password -> send that to the NAS for authentication -> then either open the app (mentioned above) or give some kind of a message box saying they now have connectivity to the drive.
I am writing a app to list the printers on various print servers and map the printer.My only problem is that I need the user to enter their domain credentials to gain access to the print server.I cant figure out how to connect to the print server using those credentials.If I try this:dim My PrinterServer as New PrintServer(\PServer1)I get a logon failure.How do I pass the credentials?
View 6 RepliesI was thinking about replacing my log on screen. I don't just mean changing the background style or whatever, I mean a totally different app, which would allow users to log on and off. I'm prepared to spend a serious amount of time on this, and I just wanted to know if it is concievably possible, and if anyone's ever done it before? I want to do this because I'm sick of the Vista log on screen. This doesn't neccesarily have to be made in vb, I could de-compile the .dll files which make up the logon screen and then re compile them.
