I am looking for some free components for building smooth/modern GUI's. Finding free ones for .net is alot harder now then it was for vb6. Atleast IMO.

I was wondering if there were any free ribbon controls for vb.net, and if there are not, how I could go about making my own. I don't want to pay $300 or more for a professional one...and I would really like to add one to my project.
What would be the best solution for finding/making one? Here is my google search I tried, I could only find one for c#. If possible, I would like one which is the closest to the one used in Office 2007.

I am looking to make a web browser in Visual Basic Express 2010 and I need an open source or free browser engine that works with visual basic.
I know there is WebKit but I would have to learn C++ to use it.I do not want this browser to be just an IE shell because I want it to have it's own engine.

I am looking for an open source .net DMS. I know in the post below there are some c++ but am not familiar with it so that would be much help.I found this post but is was asked back in 2009 so there might have been some progress or additions to this? Open Source Document Management System in .net? The reason for open source is that I would like to be able to integrate it into something else later on. I would also need it to be a desktop based system and not web based.

I would like to create a new form within my project that is identical in terms of the controls and components of one of my existing forms. The difference will be in the code where I will change some constants.
Is there a way to copy the controls and components(text boxes...) so that I don't have to use the design mode to create the form again?
I've tried copying the code of the original form and pasting it into the new form, however it only pastes the code and not the actual buttons and texts boxes.

I have a development system and two test systems. My development system is Windows 7 (64 bit). My two test systems are Windows XP (x86) and Windows 7 (x86). I have created a program on the development system mostly in VB.NET 2008 and deployed it. It looks nice on the development system and on my Windows XP system, but when executing the software on my Windows 7 (x86) system, all the form sizes and components somehow grow. To investigate the issue, I moved over the entire project and opened it on the Windows 7 (x86) system to find that the sizes have somehow changed in the designer there as well. I opened up the .Designer.vb files and the sizes there all seem correct. Then I go to the IDE and the sizes are larger than they should be. For example, I will set a form size to 532, 217 on my development PC then it will show up as 709, 267 on the test system. I tried putting in code on my form.load event to set the size to 532, 217 then re-deployed it, but again, it executes and the form is too large.

Which is less resource-intensive (per se):
> Add controls/components (such as Performance Counters, Timers, etc.) to a project by dragging them onto the form and using them by setting the properties and using code to program what they do.
> Add controls/components (such as Performance Counters, Timers, etc.) to a project by using Dim x As New Performance Counter or Dim y As New Timer in code without actually dragging them from the Toolbox onto the bar at the bottom (under the Form Design).Or is there another way to do this that uses less CPU/RAM/Resources/etc.?

I don't know what this is called so I've struggled to find an answer from google but I have a vague memory of it from t'old days.I've sub-classed (* see below) about 8 framework controls, overriden some properties and added some functionality into each one.The changes I have made are identical in every case. If I make a change, I have to go through each class and apply the same change there.I was hoping there may be a keyword such as <IncludeSourcefile "common.vb> that I can put into each class.
(* note) I use the term sub-classed but I don't know if that's the correct terminology. I've also seen it used for call-backs. Is sub-classed the correct term to use?

Way to space out the source code of a web page, having each tag on one line, without having to search for each tag ending and then making a new line after.
My code for obtaining the source code is:

Also if anyone knows a way to colour the tags.

I have a lot of repetitive code that references components of my main form. I wanted to create a separate module (correct terminology?) for all this code to be contained. I cut the offending code and pasted it into my new module, changing each label reference, etc to form1.label.click
Form1 was then underlined and I get this message:Handles clause requires WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types.I think I'm headed in the right direction, but what exactly am I looking for? Here is a sampling of the code that I would like to keep in a separate place other than Form1.vb:

I have SQLdb column elements from one table that are selected from another table. This is achieved through the use of binding a combobox to the selectable entries and applying that entries ID to the initiating table column When I add multiple combo boxes, for multiple columns, the data selected propagates across all the combo boxes I have. They all use the same binding source. It seems to me the only way out of this is to create a bunch of binding sources, essentially one for each control. I have tested this and it appears to work, but is there another, less cluttered way of ensuring that the comboboxes, while bound to the same binding source, are not bound to one another?

I want to include the ability for the end user to create connections to different databases using the same (or similar) dialogs that are available at design time, such as the Connection String builder, Selection Data Source (ODBC) screen, etc. Is this something built into .NET or only available via third party/custom controls?

I have a .exe which was created in VB.net about 4 years ago. Due to some upgrades the .exe doesn't work as it used to.I no longer have the source code and really need to get this program to work. Problem is my knowledge with coding is VERY basic. I was wondering if there was a way to extract the code from the source code from the .exe. I've done some googleing and from what i've gathered it's impossible to get the original source code. Is this true?
