I would like to create a new form within my project that is identical in terms of the controls and components of one of my existing forms. The difference will be in the code where I will change some constants.
Is there a way to copy the controls and components(text boxes...) so that I don't have to use the design mode to create the form again?
I've tried copying the code of the original form and pasting it into the new form, however it only pastes the code and not the actual buttons and texts boxes.
> Add controls/components (such as Performance Counters, Timers, etc.) to a project by dragging them onto the form and using them by setting the properties and using code to program what they do.
> Add controls/components (such as Performance Counters, Timers, etc.) to a project by using Dim x As New Performance Counter or Dim y As New Timer in code without actually dragging them from the Toolbox onto the bar at the bottom (under the Form Design).Or is there another way to do this that uses less CPU/RAM/Resources/etc.?

I have a development system and two test systems. My development system is Windows 7 (64 bit). My two test systems are Windows XP (x86) and Windows 7 (x86). I have created a program on the development system mostly in VB.NET 2008 and deployed it. It looks nice on the development system and on my Windows XP system, but when executing the software on my Windows 7 (x86) system, all the form sizes and components somehow grow. To investigate the issue, I moved over the entire project and opened it on the Windows 7 (x86) system to find that the sizes have somehow changed in the designer there as well. I opened up the .Designer.vb files and the sizes there all seem correct. Then I go to the IDE and the sizes are larger than they should be. For example, I will set a form size to 532, 217 on my development PC then it will show up as 709, 267 on the test system. I tried putting in code on my form.load event to set the size to 532, 217 then re-deployed it, but again, it executes and the form is too large.
I don't know what's got into them but they decided to purchase vs2010 pro licenses in my company. Anyway i gave it a quick look and since i don't need to have it installed right now (service pack 1 first, Microsoft anti-bug law) i uninstalled it. The problem i see is that it leaves leftovers everywhere.C++ redist, ado components, sql r2 components etc. These will not be deleted if i just remove vs2010 but will be installed if i install vs2010 full.Anyway i ended up removing them one by one and it took about 30-45 minutes. So has anyone have done a removal? Is this the case? I cannot remove most of the components with one big uninstall?
I've been trying to work out away off using a drop down box to hide and show different components, on top of one another, within panels using this
Private Sub ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBox1.SelectedIndexChanged If ComboBox1.Text = "Panel 2" Then Panel1.Visible = False
[code]....
However this only works as wanted when the panels are separate from one another (one above, one below) but I want them to be on top of each other so I can switch between them. Essentially I want two forms within a form.Second question; I have an equation I wish to implement in my code (N = N0*e^-a*b) does vb have a way of calculating exponentials and logs? (Ie: log(a/b))
I am having trouble getting the shockwave flash object to show up in the COM components i have installed the adobe flash player and adobe shockwave flash but the shockwave flash object is still not there.
I'm messing with a GUI however I can't seem to find the auto-generated initialize components method. There certainly is a constructor somewhere, my gui initialises and works just fine, but I can't see it...
I am using the publish wizard in VB 2010 Professional for deployment as I tried the InstallShield and the Standard Build and cannot get support. My last resort is this wizard. Please help me I am getting the following 2 warnings. I downloaded MDAC 2.8 SP1 for warning 2 and after I run the program it doesn't upgrade and appear in VB2010. How can I install it in VB2010 Pro. Also How can I get the .Net.Framework.2.0 installed.

Has anyone ever created controls on a DesignSurface, copied them to the clipboard, then pasted them into the VS Form designer?Mine is basically working but the control names aren't persisting.
I'm trying to make a generic ControlFactory. I've found code for a ControlFactory that has about 10 controls hardcoded in it, and don't consider it a viable option to have a fixed set of controls that it can deal with.
My designer implements the INameCreationService which basically returns: 'Control.GetType().ToString() & TypeOccurranceNumber'.Somehow VS keeps the name when I copy a control from one instance to another. If I don't add the service, then the pasted controls end up with names like: object_777c6275_24e7_4aef_baac_a489ca0bf052 instead of TextBox1.Does VS work because it's internally the same base instance, or is there maybe something else I'm overlooking?
Anyone know how to programmatically copy a set of controls to the clipboard, so the designer can then paste them onto the form?I want to make a function to select a set of fields from the database, make them into configured controls, then put them on the clipboard so I can paste them onto my form in the right area.
I have a project, that has alot of controls (mostly buttons, arranges in group boxes, withing )Is there an easy way to drag and drop them to another project and maintain control names, so that I can copy all event code etc.?Another question - how can I move controls within tab control's pages? As I recall, cut - paste loses it's event code.
I have been searching and having no luck...So anyway, what I need is a way to copy tab1's controls or items (like textboxes) and then have them pasted into a new tab.
This would be done through a "New Tab" button. When that button is pressed, a new tab will open up and it should have all the same items that tab1 has.
I have a bunch of dynamically created controls by the user which I'm storing as a control collection in the session state so I can display them on every postback. Each control that the user generates is a div with other controls inside it. I have a button on each control that will allow the user to either delete the control or duplicate it.
I attached a picture of my existing panel with its controls in this thread, how do you copy it during run time? My project is a server/client application. whenever the client is connected and sends information to the server listening that information is displayed in the server but in a new panel with controls the same as the existing panel for the server, only the location and the information displayed is different. It would look something like in the 2nd attached picture.
' Visual Basic Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, _ ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
[CODE]..........
Its straight off the Microsoft site found here: [URL]
When I add the required components and click on the button, my app simply disappears, closes, goes right back into a stopped state. No errors, No Warnings, No issues. Nothing. Its as-if there is a stray "END" just before the IF statement. (But there isn't) Its stopping right at the IF statement. My app (THEIR CODE) just makes it disappear and "Stop". The code was working about an hour ago, but now nothing, and thats the only code on the project.
I have a tab (created in the form developer) that contains about a dozen controls. I need to be able to clone this tab w/all controls. I have no problem creating the forms. However, the controls don't copy. This is true whether I create the new tab with a string:
TabPages.Add(MO.Name)Or with a tab object assigned to the base form:
Dim NewTab As New TabPage NewTab = MyBaseTabPage TabPages.Add(NewTab)
In either case, my first tab has everything it should have the other tabs have, the other tabs have only the tab name.Basically, I want to be able to clone my base tab into n number of tabs.
I am using multiple forms to create the interface for an application. The main form of the application is the only 'form' used. I am kind of stuck on how to copy the controls to a panel created on the main/different form.UC1 is a public usercontrol, so I don't have to reference every control individually later. mp3ctrl is a public control variable.[code]I have Listbox1 on mp3form. I created a new instance of a transparentlistbox control I have in Form1_Load. When trying to set size/location to Listbox1.size/.location, I get the error of Listbox1 not being declared/inaccessible.I thought by creating new controls on the main form and setting the properties, I could reference the control through the .name, especially since the control has been added to the main form.
I have programmatically created a new project from a windows application. I now want to programmatically add a form to this project that already has some data bound controls on it.
I am learning VB for the moment. I want to copy/paste code from a PDF to Visual Basic 2010 Exppress, but if i paste the (structured in PDF) code to VB, i get 1 long string of code and need to restructure it by entering after each line. Otherwise VB gives me a lot of errors. This is a time consuming work. Isn't there a way, VB puts the code in the right format?
I'm trying to write a program where people can click a browse button, click a file to copy, and then click a second browse button and click a destination folder. I've tried
and get the error "Could not complete operation since a directory already exists in this path 'C:UsersSamDesktop'."
FileCopy TextBox1.Text, TextBox2.Text gives me "The target file "C:UsersSamDesktop" is a directory, not a file."
Both methods work if I put C:UsersSamDesktop'filename'.'extension' in the destination. But I want the user to be able to select the destination without having to type a new file name.
I would like to copy a chart to another form. I have a MainForm which displays several charts. However I have another form which I would like to copy some of the graphs from MainForm to this new form (GraphCompare) so that the charts can be compared easily by the user. I am unsure on how to do the actual copying part.
so far I have this:
Dim Chart56 As New Chart Chart56 = Chart1 GraphCompare.Panel1.Controls.Add(Chart56)
I am wanting the most efficient way to copy a file with a progress bar updating the copy percentage.
This is the standard copy code I am using:
System.IO.File.Copy(source,target)
This is very fast and efficient. However, I cannot report the copy percentage. I have tried many functions that read and save a file by opening up the filestream and then looping while reading/writing the data. This enables me to report the progress.
Here are the functions that I am using:
Public Sub SaveBinaryFile(strFilename As String, bytesToWrite() As Byte) Dim position As Integer = 0 Dim BufferSize As Integer = 4096
I have an unmanaged DLL written in C++ and imported into my .NET application via <DLLImport ()> that I use to interface with a custom dos device driver. However, I'd like to either access the device directly or embed the DLL in my .NET application.
I've tried using Reflection.Assembly (see code below) to gain access to the embedded DLL, however, because it's unmanaged and there is no class to instantiate (CreateInstance fails), I cannot access it that way.Does anyone know of a way to embed this in my application and access it via reflection or some other means?
I would like to copy the value of a check box when it is checked and I have two checkboxes. CheckBox1 and CheckBox2. Id like to be able to click 'Submit' and copy the values from the Checked CheckBoxes. Idealy, if both are checked then it would return something like this "CheckBox1, CheckBox2".
