View 3 RepliesIm trying to build a list of id's in a textbox. Which works fine in IE and Firefox but not in chrome.
The list that is created is using String.fromCharCode(20) to separate the values. (im using this as the values could be any character so I need to use non writable characters like this and 17)
What happens in Chrome is it seems to remove anything (and including) from the non writable character onwards so if I had
"432@5033"
where @ = the non writable character then it would output "423"
any ideas why chrome has this behaviour!

I can't see any problem in the code and what it should do is trigger an animation depending on the status of a service (spooler service in this case). It may be because I am manually referencing to the System.ServiceProcess namespace, which is not available in WPF framework by default, but I'm not sure.
I have an Inherited Control with a Property that can be set in the designer. There's some code in the Set procedure to make sure it's set appropriately. However when I build or run the project that property is changed, I am assuming it's the sanity check code in the Set procedure that's causing it to be changed along with some VS beahviour. I am using SourceSafe 2005, and I have a project in VB.NET Framework 4.What I want is a way to automate the build process and hopefully integrate easy deployment. I'd like to be able to send an automated notification when a build is made that lists the comments of the SourceSafe check-in's in the body of the message.I've looked at a few options and some of them are confusing. I've seen it implemented with SVN, nAnt and CruiseControl, but it looks like it might take ages to set up being a novice of the aforementioned technologies.What would be the easiest way to set something like this up in your opinion? If I have to start using SVN for this, then that would also be a possibility.

This works fine, however one of the QA people discovered hitting Control + Enter still puts in a newline.How would we prevent this?And why does AcceptsReturn being False not work as it appears it should? What is the intended purpose of it?
When control passes to the textbox I type one character and control immediately goes to the next object(lbxAnnl)). I suspect it may be related to the "TextChanged" event but I didn't see any other events that looked relivent. I was expecting to terminate the input with a carriage return.

It's playing in the background since the Form is hidden. When I play itin Debug, everything works fine. When I run the app outside Debug, I get this error: [URL] The Music File is there, but strangely, there comes this weird error.
A particular VB.NET project is actually throwing 'Build Failed' But when I try rebuilding again it says 'Rebuild Succeeded'. It keeps alternating this behavior. Kind of random. Any vbc.exe issue of long locking the PDB or xml files?

Can you tell me how to test these events? My postbuild event, I believe calls a project file in the solution file that wraps files together in a bundle in debug mode. Can you tell me how the posbuild event works and when it is called?
View 2 RepliesI am using 2008 Express Edition. I am trying to make a Release build instead of a Debug build.Under Tools->Options, Projects and Solutions->General - I checked Show advanced build configurations. The option to switch configurations does not show up in the IDE.
After this, I went to the Project Properties->Compile and switched the Configuration from Active(Debug) to Release.After building, I looked in my project directory, however only in the Debug sub-directory was the .exe and nothing in the Release sub-directory.I have used Visual C++ Express Edition, where I noticed that if you do not change to Release in the IDE than after changing to Release in properties, resets the project to the last configuration setting which is usually Debug.how to make the Debug/Release box available in the IDE, since Tools/Options does not make it show up?
I just created a simple application. I Builded that using build->build myapp. I got .exe of that application. i runned. all went fine. but when i closed that app, even after closing it is in memory. it is still running. how to deploy it properly?
View 12 RepliesI have some very simple questions about making a release build exe in vb.net using MS VB 2010 Express.
I realize that my project's executable is built in the bin/debug folder. However, when I copy this to any other location on my computer or someone else's, this executable does not function. I have read that I need to create a release build but in MS VB 2010 Express, when I use the Project-Properties menu and change the Compile tab configuration to Release and the path to binRelease, I still get the exe in the binDebug folder and not the binRelease folder.
1) Is it normal that exe's from the debug folder do not function outside of the debug folder?
2) Most importantly, if the release build produces a faster exe, could someone please explain step by step how to do this with MS VB 2010 Express ? I do not see any button on the compile tab in the project properties that actually builds the release.
How do I write an expression to calculate all characters of each row by my own defined value to each character = all the A and B and C and etc. will be as 2 and all I and J and whatever ... will be 1 so I need an end result of the total.
View 3 RepliesI am working on a sub that essentially needs to open a text file, and replace all instances of a certain character with a unicode character. I'm trying to do this by reading the original text file byte by byte, converting it to a character, and then either adding that character to a memory stream or writing the unicode character to the memory stream. Then I'm saving the memory stream to the original file.

For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.
