C# - Database Restoration Fails With An Error "RESTORE Cannot Process Database 'LIC'"
Jan 15, 2012
i am using the following code snippet to backup/restore database Backup works fine but when i try to restore i get this error "RESTORE cannot process database 'LIC' because it is in use by this session. It is recommended that the master database be used when performing this operation. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally."
I want to backup and restore the database by using vb.net.I have a problem here..This dialogue box appear.
" [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open backup device 'C:Documents and SettingsSMy Documentssales.Bak'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.). [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. "
I'm working on a Warehouse Item locator. I use an Access database for all the information and I made a backup so after all the change are made, I can keep a copy of the database in case something happen.
I'm creating a program with database and it almost done. The only one thing that left is the backup and restore of database. I don't know how to do this.
I want to Backup my Database to a location and restore it afterwards. The problem is , i want to keep my program open. I seem to have a problem with this, the connection stays open. How can i do this , close connection and open it again without data loss?
Im getting this: "Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally."
First the message told me i must connect to master db to execute the restore but i change it and i got the message above. The parametrized sql statement im using is :
I am using VB.net 2003. I am working on a stand alone windows program that stores data in an Access database via ADO.net via MS jet 4.0 OLEDb. I have progressed to the point that I would now like to provide the end user the oportunity to back-up the data they have stored and re-install if they choose. I am envisioning a menu item for "maintenance" with sub-items for "back-up" and "restore"
My app starts an On-Screen Keyboard process like this:
Dim PID as System.Diagnostics.Process : PID = Process.Start("C:WindowsSystem32osk.exe") :
[CODE]...
It seems to work 90% of the time. However, sometimes the PID.Kill() fails because it says the process already exited. At this point the OSK is always still there on screen. Yes, I know my code should be testing to see if the process is still running before trying to kill it, but given that the OSK is still on screen..
Very simple update. It simply fails, no error, no change gets made to the database.Dim db As New BarClassesDataContext Dim foo = (From a In db.articles Where a.id = 14 Select a).Single Response.Write("<h3>" & foo.title & "</h3>") foo.title = "This is my new, updated title for article ID #14" db.SubmitChanges()
Here is the relevent portion of my article class. Also, this is a web form so I have no console. Is there another way to view the T-SQL output?
<Table(Name:="dbo.article")> _ Partial Public Class article Private _id As Integer Private _issueid As Integer Private _dateadded As Date
I want to take my access database which i used in my project on visual studio2008 backup by selecting the local drive of my computer at the time of backup i choose the drive & there were i taken the backup i restore my database. Is is possible to take backup atomatically when i close my application.
I have the RTM version installed. I am quite puzzled at this wizard. It works fine with SqlClient. But for Access databases, this wizard completely fails. In this wizard, I only have one option to do - setting the ConnectionString. [code]
I have made a small form where I have bound textbox with records from database.Although my code for inserting and updating the record seems fine and working. But when I view the database, tables i see no inserts/updates made there. But When I run my application again, I see the records in the bound textbox but only for some seconds (for around 1 and half minutes), although they are not shown in the database (tables) actually.
When I close the application and run again it after 1-2 minutes there are no more records bound to the textbox, since no records at all.How can this be possible. I don't have any idea what's going on.
I have been using visual studio 2008 and sql server.Code I have been using for ::
'Update the Records Private Sub btnUpdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdate.Click
How do you restore a dataset to the previous state before updating the database with a data adapter? I have a concurrency update problem that I believe to be caused by this. The update fails during the update and a rollback command is issued using a SQLTransaction object. However, now the rowstates of the rows that did not have errors have been changed to unchanged. So this record is no longer availible to be inserted into the database. When I updated the value that could not be null and then test the second update which runs just as the first does then I get a concurrency error. The update code is below:
I have an application which connects to a database, retrieves a username from a user's table and matches it against the username retrieved with System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent.Name.On my localhost, everything works fine. The database exists on the development server but the application lies on my localhost. All of my authorization and authentication techniques are running smoothly. However, when I publish my application to the development server, I'm faced with the following error.Cannot open database requested in login 'databaseName'. Login fails.Login failed for user 'DevelopmentServerNameASPNET'.
I am using VB .Net to connect to an access databse when using several connection sometimes i get this erro "unspecified error microsoft jet database engine" even though i am an administrator on my local machine.
I recently upgraded the MS SQL Server installed on my personal computer from 2005 Express to 2008 Express. Problem is when I try to add an SQL database file to a project using VS 2005 I get an error message saying that the version of my database server is not supported, I must have SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 or later installed. I didn't do it yet but I'm pretty sure that when I open the other projects that I included a database file to it, I'm going to get the same error. My question is it possible to have two SQL Servers installed on my machine? If so, is it a good idea to have two DB servers in the same machine?
I've been working on automating our build processes and wanted to come up with a painless way to run unit tests on a regular basis. To that end I've thrown together a simple app that examines the project files and prepares a list of solutions to test. The prototype works in that the tests are executed with the expected results, but as soon as I try to redirect my output the app bombs on the Process.Start call, complaining that a file could not be found.
I've tried several iterations on what I've seen done elsewhere, including several posts here, but I have yet to get this to work properly.
This works:
Private Function WTF(ByVal aWorkingDirectory As String, ByVal aFileName As String, ByVal aArguments As String) As Boolean Dim lProcess As New Process() With lProcess
i have a application that i designed for an assignment which uses a DB (ACCESS) However when i publish the application it fails to load even though the application completes. I have managed to find that it is the database that is not copying over, how do i solve this (the db is located when debugging and is also in the project files)
I am having some issues with an application written in VB.net.
As part of a routine, an sqlce database gets backed up before the routine then if an error occurred gets restored. I am using system.io methods copy and delete.
I have released all the objects (connections, commands, datareaders) asscociated with the sqlce database by disposing them if they are not nothing. I also do a GC.COLLECT however when my delete command runs, an error message says it is open by another process. The PROCEXP.exe process explorer tool says it is attached to 4 undefined processes. After a while in debug mode, these clear and I am able to delete the file. However this is not acceptable as my program cannot "wait around" until they are released! I was under the impression that object.dispose forced an immediate disposal rather than waiting for the garbage collector to clean up (if you were just to use object=nothing), but still there appears to be a finite time before these objects are released.
My question is, is there an alternative way of checking (programatically in vb) for what is holding open an sqlce database (or in fact any other file for that matter) then killing these processes?
