When I install my application, some forms are unable to connect to the database.
I say some because, when my login form works totally fine. Authentication happens.
But once I go into the main application, and open other windows, I start to get these error mesages:

Do users of windows applications have to have the database application installed if your program uses databases to store information? For example, when making VB2008 programs, if I use the visual studio express database (.sdf), or maybe a MSAccess database, to store information within my visual basic program...when I deploy the application to the users, can they run the program okay even if they don't have MSAccess installed on their computer?Also, do I need to have MSAccess installed in order to write programs that use MSAccess databases?

The installation has put the mdf file in c:documents and settingsuserappsdata.I want to attach this with SQL Server Management studio but when I try to browse to the file in order to attach it, I find I can't browse further then C:documents and settingsuser.

View 5 RepliesI have a VB project that I created a simple setup project to deploy. It installs fine except for one problem. It crashes because it can't read its own application directory. Included with the program are an xml and schema file that it needs to read when starting.dditionally it may create a log file, also in its application directory. Either of these will return errors under the default install. This was not an issue when running the program in VS and if modify the program to work with another directly like C:Temp. I have a workaround in which I change the permissions of Users group to Full Control for the application directory

I'm using VS 2010, and I did a project using VB and a database in Access. The problem is that when I try to put that "application" on other computers, sometimes, is not working. I thought it can be because on these computers they don't have access, but on one computer, is running another app which is using Access and there is no Access installed. How can I check if my application requires Access to be installed or not?

I have simple application with MS SQL (.mdf) database. It's all works fine on my computer, but when I run app on another computer, and when I try to add new data I get error: "Failed to update c:\program files\..database.mdf because the database is read only".
View 7 RepliesI've created a project in VB .NET. when i build it and run the .exe everything works fine but when i install it the database becomes read only. I've used the VB 'setup and deployment' project to make and installer and i also tried InstallShield but the occurs in both cases. i looked on google but can't find anything that makes sense atleast. i think the application can not create _log.LDF file. Anyone come across this problem before?

Now I need to retrieve a specific record based on a selection made by the user. I found that the way to do it is with the WHERE statement and from examples i have seen the code below should be how it is done:[code]The problem I am having is that when i try to run the sub i get the error:Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression 'Show Name = Strictly Hip Hop'.The show name is in the database because that is where the data is retrieved from. All I am trying to do is populate a text box with information from the Host column when the Show Name column is the same as the selected item in the combo box.
View 7 RepliesI am building VB.NET application that takes data from text files that are exported from a legacy DOS program. These are written to a datatable and displayed in a datagridview. Right now my code simply loops through the datagridview and inserts the data into the database (SQL Server). There is a requirement now that the client number must be checked before the insert to see if it exists in the database. If it does, then the value of one field (tax rate) is checked against the value of the field in the datagridview. If there is a difference, then the rate is to be updated in the database and the data that was in the database is to be written to a history table for audit purposes. If the client number is not there, then we are to do the insert (which is already written). I want to know what is the most elegant and efficient solution for this problem.
I need to compare what is in the database table with what is in the datagridview, update the history table for records that exist, and then insert new records.
I'm trying to get my application to read to and write from an Access database. I am running Windows 7 x64.

View 5 RepliesI am trying out the Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition Setup and Deployment - Setup Wizard on a very simple VB 2008 app which includes a simple SQL Express dB. The build works fine and it installs on the target system ok. But when I go to run the application and add a new record for example, I get a "read-only" error indicating that the sql db is read-only. Yet none of the files in the folder are read-only. What is odd is that the folder that it was installed into "acts" like it is read only, yet it is not identified as such. If I move the .exe and db files out of that folder, (onto the desktop for example) it works just fine. Should I set up a post build event or something to make

I am trying to copy a sql database into a vb.net application however it is not maintaining the default values when I do this. Is it possible to import the default values and have them automatically assigned when creating a new row or do I have to manually assign the default values again in my code?

Ive created one database Sql Server Compact Edition 2005, with one table ("Cliente") I know that I can created my database good, but i have a problem saving information since three textbox, in my table(With columns "Nombre" "Apellido" "Cliente". In my form there is a button save ("Guardar"). When I do click in my button appear the next message : "The column cannot contain null values. [ Column name = Nombre,Table name = Cliente ] " and happen the same with apellido and Id_Cliente. And this happen becouse my code cant save the information....

Created a Dataset and dragged the grid onto the form1.vb.
In SQL Sertver Management Studio I can update update tables using the same credentials as in the VB connection string
WHen I try to update a record in the VB Dataset it returns the error cannot update database because it is read-only
I have checked the files and folder attributes in SQL Data folder. Nothing is set to read only
I have checked SQL Server Database > Properties > Option > State > Databse Read only = false
I don't what I'm doing wrong here but I cannot get VB to update data via the dataset.
Inotice in SQL Server that the DBname now includes the full path "C:PROGRAM FILESMICROSOFT SQL SERVERMSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESSMSSQLDATAPAYABLES.MDF" and not just the DB name. Is this becuase VB Express requires you to point to the physical DB file?
I have created an application in VB.Net 2010 and am using an Access 2010 db. Connecting to this DB I use the Provider= Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 and it works fine on my machine. This was a recent update from using Jet as that provider was having issues on client Win64 computers that had Access 2007 or 2010 installed.Basically my issue is that I get the error that Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 is not installed when I try to run the application on the client.
The problem however, is that I do not want ask the users to install Data Access Objects in addition to .Net 4.0. I want a simple install that they can run and upgrade to .net 4.0 if they need to. The above thread states a solution as "You can also consider to use ADO.NET object in System.Data.OleDb namespace to connect to the Access database instead of the Provider. In my opinion, this is the best choice since the ADO.NET provides you the powerful data access objects." This sounds like a great option, however I cannot find any way to install the ACE dll and get it to work on the client.what do I need to include in the client installer to get my application to run on systems without Access installed? Do I just include the ACEODB.dll or is there something else that needs to be done?
