Sql Server - Maintainging Default Values When Importing A Sql Database Into A .net Application?
Jun 17, 2010
I am trying to copy a sql database into a vb.net application however it is not maintaining the default values when I do this. Is it possible to import the default values and have them automatically assigned when creating a new row or do I have to manually assign the default values again in my code?

I have a VB Web Site project that has recently (and mysteriously) stopped importing the "System" namespace by default.
I'm having to either place an Imports System line at the top of each code behind, or preface everything with System, which is fairly annoying, not to mention redundant. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the System namespace back to being imported by default.
I've already checked to see that WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727CONFIGweb.config contains the <add namespace="System"/> line--it does. That was my best lead.
I have references to several namespaces within the System namespace in the <assemblies> node (e.g. System.Design, System.Web.Extensions of my website's web.config. There is no <namespaces> node. This has not been changed recently.

I have a dataset that contains decimal values pulled from a database, when I try to assign the values in it to variables, the decimal values somehow got rounded to a whole number. I have manually ran the query which selects a column of decimal(18,4) datatype and verified that the output contains decimal places. During the breakpoint, I also found out that the (dtr(c.ColumnName)) actually becomes an integer.
Dim bannerValsAmt(1) As Decimal
Dim bannerVals(1) As String
Dim i As Integer

I have an xls file that needs to be imported into SQL Server directly from .net. I figured out how to do this, but now my problem is the data. The following data is in the xls file: Name, Address, City, State, Zip, Phone. The phone number can come in in various values (with dashes and without). I have no way of controlling this data because it is an export out of some third party application. My problem is that the numbers with the dashes are being ignored by the Excel import. I am using the OPENROWSET to import.

I have inherited a VB.net web app that I'm making some changes on. I'm perfectly capable with the programming side (VB and MSSQL) but I'm getting lost with the tools. I was given a zip file of the code and everything. I opened the sln file in Visual Studio 2005 and it worked fairly easily with little modification.
Running the app works perfectly. Problem is, I need to write some new SPs so need the database admin. SQL Server 2008 Express is installed but it doesn't see any database and I have no idea how to import it.I have a folder App_Data in the project with the file ASPNETDB.MDF. Opening this in VS gived the error: This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 or later.

Im having strange problems when importing data from an excel file into a sql table. Everything seems to imports ok until i look at the data in more detail, this is when I notice its imported the data but in the wrong order. for some reason when I look at the db table all records are in the wrong order, and strangely enough it seems to be a different order every time I import things. Is there a way to force the routine to import the data in the same order as the it is in the excel file?, because at the minute it seems to have a mind of its own.
My code is below:
Public Function ReadExcelFile(ByVal sFileName As String) As Boolean
Dim oSQL As New clsSQLHolder
Dim excelCon As String
[CODE]........................

I found a few examples online on how to import excel into sql via vb. but can i do it via stored procedure?
Insert into SQLServerTable Select * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
'Excel 8.0;Database=D: esting.xls;HDR=YES',
'SELECT * FROM [SheetName$]')
So like, can I pass in:

I have an app developed with VB .NET as front end and SQL Server Express 2005 Database. Now I want to install it on a server so that other client PCs can access it. My gquestions are:
1. Do I have to install SQL Server Express on the Server before I can install my database on it?
2. Do I have to install Visual studio on the clients before I can install the front end?
3. Is there any online walk-through/tutorial on how to accomplish this (ie, installing a database app on a server and connecting the clients)?

I've inherited a .NET app to support / enhance which reads in a couple of files of high hundreds of thousands of rows, and one of millions of row.The original developer left me code like :-
For Each ModelListRow As String In ModelListDataArray
If ModelListRow.Trim.Length = 0 Or ModelListRow.Contains(",") = False Then
GoTo SKIP_ROW
[code].....
and it takes an age (well, nearly half an hour) to import these files.

I want to connect a database that is located on centralized server. How can I use a windows form VB.NET application to access it? Is this possible?
How can I maintain a single user entry (e.x== used of INSERT command)?
Are both of the above things possible? If so, how can I go about implementing them?

i 'm develloping an application that uses a sql server database, in my computer where i'm programming i installed the sql server in the same language of the OS, in the tests of the application everything worked fine. Biut after migrating the db to the main server, the values went crazy.. After some research and tests, i saw that the language of the sql server was in english and that was the problem.
My language settings says that the decimal separator is "," and the agrupment digit it's ".", and the sql server works in the other way "." is the decimal separator and the "," it's the agrupment digit. In my code i was using the CDEC to pass the values to the DB, to solve this i removed the cdec and send the parameter as a string (So if i send 2,33 to DB with CDEC i get 233 if i send the 2,33 string i get 2.33). This works for now, but i don't know if in the future i'll have problems...

I have an issue with my code. The application interacts with a MySQL database on a remote server, I have access to this server. When my app is running the insert into code I m getting this error: "Conversion from string "INSERT INTO phpvms_fsspireps(pil" to type 'Integer' is not valid."
The variable which holds the Inser Into string, during break point debug gives me this: ""INSERT INTO phpvms_fsspireps(pilotid, code, flightnum, depicao, arricao, route, route_details, distance, aircraft, flighttime, flighttime_stamp, landingrate, submitdate, accepted, log, load, fuelused, expenselist, source,

And this is my code.
Dim conn As MySqlConnection
Dim cnString As String
cnString = My.Settings.constr
[code]...
the DB spec:
Total DB size: 190,1 MB
Total Tables: 106
and the table specs. The titles are in Greek but I think you can understand it from the data. [url]

We would like to create a client-server architecture application that the server can control all client computers connected to it (e.g shutdown) and we would like to put a security login and a desktop lockeron the clients. The process of the system is that when the clients starts, the desktop is locked and ofcourse the user can't access the desktop unless he/she logged-in. And when the scheduled time (e.g 1 hour) is done, the client computers where automatically shutdown like the Time Logger Softwares

I have recently developed a back end database in SQL server 2008 R2 and attached it to a application in VB express 2010.Everything works fine and when i publish the application, it works fine on my machine, but once i try to setup up the application on another machine i get the error message: A network related or instance specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server was not found or not accessible please verify the instance name is correct or allow remote connections.I have read numerous forums on this saying about changing the connection string and instance name.but with being novice i dont understand what needs to be changed etc.The sql server allows remote connections, but i am unsure what else needs changing to allow the application to work with the database on another machine.

I created a simple appication that loads a local Crystal Report into the CrystalReportViewer and then exports that report to PDF. I am able to run this application on my own computer, but when I try and run it on another computer it just errors out. I had to import the Crystal Report assembly into the application so I could get it to properly work. According to the error message, it seems to fail on the Crystal Report import statement. I have tried to install a couple of packages from SAP, but none of them seem to work?
