.net - Getting Decimal Values From SQL Server Database?
Apr 13, 2012
I have a dataset that contains decimal values pulled from a database, when I try to assign the values in it to variables, the decimal values somehow got rounded to a whole number. I have manually ran the query which selects a column of decimal(18,4) datatype and verified that the output contains decimal places. During the breakpoint, I also found out that the (dtr(c.ColumnName)) actually becomes an integer.
Dim bannerValsAmt(1) As Decimal
Dim bannerVals(1) As String
Dim i As Integer
I have my form set in french as well, and it automatically changes the text format to use ','. However When I try to insert my values into the database it says cannot convert nvarchar to decimal? Worst case, Is there a way I can disable the numbers from changing to use ',' and just use '.' always regardless what language it is? My working language is vb.net?

Ive created one database Sql Server Compact Edition 2005, with one table ("Cliente") I know that I can created my database good, but i have a problem saving information since three textbox, in my table(With columns "Nombre" "Apellido" "Cliente". In my form there is a button save ("Guardar"). When I do click in my button appear the next message : "The column cannot contain null values. [ Column name = Nombre,Table name = Cliente ] " and happen the same with apellido and Id_Cliente. And this happen becouse my code cant save the information....
This is the code
Option Explicit On Option Strict On
Imports System Imports System.IO Imports System.Data
[CODE]...
And the code for my button is:
Private Sub cmdguardar_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdguardar.Click
Dim myconnection As SqlCeConnection Dim mycommand As SqlCeCommand
I am having trouble inserting values into my Account table that's in a SQL Server Compact Edition database. I keep on getting an error that states [code]....
I am trying to copy a sql database into a vb.net application however it is not maintaining the default values when I do this. Is it possible to import the default values and have them automatically assigned when creating a new row or do I have to manually assign the default values again in my code?
I have two functions that return a dollar amount but one of the amounts extends out to more than 2 decimal positions. So I'm trying to round it to two decimal positions and for some reason after the amounts are added together it goes back to extending out more than 2 decimals. I have tried several things. Currently I'm trying to even use a string variable in-between conversions to see if I can get rid of the decimal values but it's still not working.
Here is the first function.
Public Function dTotalDollars(Optional ByVal iClassAccountIndex As Short = -1, _ Optional ByVal iBreakdownCode As DOLLAR_AMOUNT = DOLLAR_AMOUNT.ALL_DOLLARS) As Double Dim dAmount As Double
[Code].....
Then after the second call it's showing in debug mode that dTotalCalcDollars is going to return 2272.37, but once it adds it to dAmount the amount becomes 28094.739999999998 instead of 28094.74.
I am started learning .net. I want two decimal points value. I have used this codelblNo.Text = Math.Round(CDec(txtNo.Text + (txtNo.Text * 0.2)), 2).ToString(If i have value as 1.32 then its ok but if i have value like 2.3 it shows 2.3 but i want value as 2.30
I wish to display values of 2 decimal places whenever this field (datatype = smallmoney) is being read & displayed via a SQL select statement. Is there a simpler way out besides the following example? Im using VS 2008,
How would I convert the two individual byte values (in hex) to a decimal value representing the concatenated hex values? For example, if I have the
Dim byte1 As Byte = &H99 Dim byte2 As Byte = &H99
' I want the decimal representation of the hex value "9999" ' (byte1.ToString + byte2.ToString) which should be "39321" Currently I use the following code:
Dim decVal as integer decVal = Val("&H" + Hex$(byte1).ToString + Hex$(byte2).ToString)
However, when I use this, the value (decVal) comes out to "-26215"
I'm drawing polygons, lines, etc. and I have to have the points of each precise - up to 12 decimals. Since a Point only takes integer values, I'm not sure how to handle scaling. I have a working user control, but rounding the decimals so I can put them into points is causing incorrect calculations (area, ect.).
I'm trying to limit the number of decimal values to 3 in numbers such as .3125 but I also have numbers such as .5 which I need to leave as is.
how can I determine if a number is 4 decimal places and cut off the last number.. I don't want to round up either.. .3125 should be .312 not .313 and .5 should stay at .5 and not .500.
Is it possible to create a plot from List(Of Decimal) values in Excel with VB? I would like to avoid dumping data directly into a table, then creating the chart from that. Here is what I have so far, but I am getting a data type mismatch when I try to assign .XValues and .Values to the list. Is there some sort of conversion that needs to happen to turn a list into a series?
Dim Series As Excel.Series Dim xVals As New List(Of Decimal)(New Decimal() {1, 3, 4, 5}) Dim yVals As New List(Of Decimal)(New Decimal() {2, 2, 2, 2})
Is there such a thing as a type similar to a point, but contains a pair of decimals, or a pair of doubles, rather than integers? I searched the forums and google with no luck. I can't believe this has never come up before, I must have been using the wrong search terms.
In the discussion in this thread: [URL] it was reveiled to me that vb.net, using double, could only calculate values up to 18 digits after decimal.... so I started thinking and came up with this class
Public Class LargeNumber Private pNumber As String
Public Sub New()
[CODE].............
I want to split the string into a series of doubles.... and than combine them into a large number.... The size of each double component should be 18 digits on a 32 bit computer... so that I will have room to add the last carrier...
Create a function named DecimalDegrees to refactor the code that converts a latitude or longitude into a value in decimal degrees. (This function will be used inside the functions ValueOf and Distance.) Task 2a: Write the code for the function DecimalDegrees with an input parameter for DegreeString as type string, and returns the value as type Double.
Here is my code for the function part Private Function DecimalDegrees(ByVal DegreeString As String, ByVal degrees As Double, ByVal minutes As Double, ByVal seconds As Double, ByVal ID As Integer) As Double
I am having difficulties with the 2nd part which is I believe to take the code for the calc1 and calc2 buttons and somehow get it to convert to decimal degrees by the function I have created. The buttons would then be removed as the code would automatically take the latitude and longitude and convert the degrees, minutes and seconds into a decimal.
Here is the code for the current buttons: Dim StartPtr, StopPtr As Integer 'To Replace Calculator 1 Button 'Convert degrees before passing argument - Latitude StartPtr = 0 [Code] .....
I am building VB.NET application that takes data from text files that are exported from a legacy DOS program. These are written to a datatable and displayed in a datagridview. Right now my code simply loops through the datagridview and inserts the data into the database (SQL Server). There is a requirement now that the client number must be checked before the insert to see if it exists in the database. If it does, then the value of one field (tax rate) is checked against the value of the field in the datagridview. If there is a difference, then the rate is to be updated in the database and the data that was in the database is to be written to a history table for audit purposes. If the client number is not there, then we are to do the insert (which is already written). I want to know what is the most elegant and efficient solution for this problem.
I need to compare what is in the database table with what is in the datagridview, update the history table for records that exist, and then insert new records.
Decimal type columns have Precision and Scale where the length of the integral part of the decimal would be Precision - Scale, if the Precision is 4 and the Scale is 2 then the integral part can only contain 2 digits (4-2). As such I will probably need a control that I could set how much it should accept on its integral part. In that regard I am not sure which control is best for such cases, I could try to make a usercontrol that will handle that but is there any other control out there that I could utilize for this purpose, intrinsic to .Net or a custom control out there? I could also just validate the data keyed-in but the above solution seem to be more user-friendly. Curiously, when databinding such Decimal type columns, how is it handled when the specified integral part exceeds the allowable size (Precision minus Scale)?
To pass decimal values to radio buttons so I can calculate an output answer. it is a tip calculator. I am using radio buttons as options to choose what amount to tip, ie. 10, 15, and 20%. I need to figure out how to pass the value to the buttons in code so I can calculate the tip amount.
I have the below code, as you can see I have commented out the bit that isnt working. I have a database I have linked in via the VB2008 DataSources panel on the UI, and using the DataSet name created when that was done. Now with the 1.0 I have temporarily set it to function seems to work as expected. But I cant seem to retrieve the decimal value from the database without error.
Function FindFactor(ByVal UnitOfMeasurement As String) As Double Select Case UnitOfMeasurement Case "cm"
Public Sub CreateXml() Dim db As New MDataContext Dim Customers = <gallery columns="3" rows="3">
[code]....
Could i mix local values with the ones returned from the LINQ query...Something like the following?
Public Sub CreateXml(ByVal **Col** As String, ByVal **Row** As String) Dim db As New MDataContext Dim Customers = <gallery columns="& **Col** &" rows="& **Row** &">
I read a decimal datum from my database and ask the debugger what I got:?
reader.Item(idxItem) 0D {Decimal} Decimal: 0DI want to convert it to a string because I am building an output record.? CSTR(reader.Item(idxItem)) "0.0000"I don't want four decimal places so I try to be more specific:? STRING.format(reader.Item(idxItem), "0.00") "0.0000" {String} String: "0.0000"How do I get 0.00? And if my input is 90.5, I want 90.50.
I am trying to insert a variable in Decimal type into an Access table. When I use "decimal" field with 0 digits after the decimal separator (,) my program works properly. However, when i use the field with 2 digits after the separator I get a "Data type mismatch in criteria expression." exception. This happens also when I try to update the table. The debugger shows me that my variables contain the right values but the update or insert command gives the error.
I have a field in an access database with decimals in it. I am using ADO to read in the data and are trying to assign it to a textbox in a form. This works fine when its a whole number. But it doesnt seem to work when its a decimal for some reason.
I have declared the variable i have assigned the access field to as a double, but when i set up a test textbox which i point the variable at and times it by 1000, it doesnt work. Works perfectly when i change the access field entry to a whole number though.
This sounds like im not using the right syntax or something.
I have created my site using ASP.NET Personal Starter Kits 3.5. I use Visual Studio 2008 only . .with its built-in SQL Server (2005 Express) ... my database in App_Data is ASPNETDB.MDF ...I have created some of my tables also ....in ASPNETDB ..In my local PC the site was running fine ...But when I publish my site on production server it doesn't work and shows the following error
