i have a application that i designed for an assignment which uses a DB (ACCESS) However when i publish the application it fails to load even though the application completes. I have managed to find that it is the database that is not copying over, how do i solve this (the db is located when debugging and is also in the project files)

At the moment when i publish it, it only works on my system because i have the database on my PC, if i delete the database from my pc the program messes up because it doesnt have a copy of the database in its program resources etc.how do i publish the program so that it includes a copy of the database that it needs to function?

I would at least like to include a "Terms of Use" document the user must agree to before installing the program. I have dovnloaded and installed web developer, c# and vs 2008. Do any of these include a professional installer? If not are there any free installer packages available? I am 72 and live on a limited budget so I cannot aford an expensive package for one program.

each character in the game has its own dedicated folder for each file that the character has relating to it...
what I want to know how to do, is to have my game copy the loaded/chosen background image to their respective characters data folder, and have the game reload/reset the games default background image, to the one piced by he player...I am having a hard time figuring out how to do this however...I've tried a lot of different things...and nothing is working yet...

In class i saved my program in with load of other test programs for the same assignment and got everything mixed up i finally figured out what was what and loaded the program in Visual Basic. Now my program doesn't recognize one of my forms when i try to access the design view of it. I hit run for the hell of it and the program runs with errors of course but the form1 "the missing one" shows up with all the buttons etc and i can use it.

When I publish my program, I can't see the folder that I have in my solution explorer appears together with other files. I have been wondering how to add a folder or I do it wrongly. I have using this method:-Project.. add... new folder and I name it as SC1. But when I publish it, I can't see in in application files(It's not embedded together). I can't use add existing as it required me to add a very specific files (Not a folder ). As what I can see, there is not specific properties for folder sc1 (build action /copyto output directory).

I will share it so I'd like to have just one "setup" file which creates the another necessary files. (or just one bigger file?) but the main thing is that I dont want to start share 4-5 files...
I get it worked on my computer, that's not a problem. But then I upploaded all of the files (4-5) to mediafire, destroyed program from my computer and downloaded those files: Program didnt worked: Sayd just "U havent downloaded all necessary files" (something like that).
Well I think it's possible also to publish to new wep site. In fact I tryed to make wep site (with www.nettisivu.org ) (finnish quite good wep-page-creater) but the same result: no results at all. If this is the easier way, how I could upload my program straight to that site? In that "wep-page-creator" the final site looks that: xxxxx.nettisivu.org and editing page looks: xxxxx.nettisivu.org/wp-admin/page.php?action=edit..... (xxxxx=my name for site)

View 6 RepliesI have compiled a project with no errors and published the release version through ClickOnce to my website, almost 5 users are working ok with the application but on 2 computers the appliication fails when a button is pressed the exception is "Index was out of range.Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name : index" Note that no parameter is named index in my code and that the program runs fine on 2/3 of the computer's I there is an error why does the application compiles?Also i have send my project file to a friend to use on his own visual studio to check if it compiles and the errors appeared in the debuger despite that i havent managed to find a solution, i beleive that my code is probably ok. I'm using visual studio 2008 with Option Explisit and Option Strict On and all the deployment pc's have .net 3.5

What is happening at the moment is that the inner loop reaches the array.Remove(inner_element) line for the first time in its second loop during the second loop of the main foreach, reaches the inner next line and then just stops executing. There are no warnings / notices, the debugging step though just ends as if there was no further logic.
Frustration has officially set in. This is my first post here, and to be very honest, I'll admit that I'm a newbie VB programmer as well. I guess that's why I'm posting here, in hopes you super-porgrammer types might be able to help.
I've written a smallish VB program with 2010 express... the code uses some text files to gather various lists of numbers ( as part of a manufacturing Bill of Material ) that assiciate to PDF files of the same name. The intent was simply to view and print the gathered existing PDF files.
I have the program mostly working the way I want ( at home ), but when I bring it to work, it fails to open.
My home PC is a 32Bit Windows Vista Machine with Adobe 10.1 viewer installed.My Work PC is a 64 Bit Windows 7 Machine also with Adobe 10.1. I've sent the .sln and code to a buddy who is also running a 64bit Win 7 machine very similar to what I have... he is able to run the program. I've sent the same thing to my work pc and tried to run it. I get some crazy HRESULT error I can't make heads or tails out of... remember I'm a newbie.
I will happily post code if you guys are interested, but I believe that it isn't code related. What kind of things MIGHT i try to look for on my work pc that would cause this simple program Not to function? I've brought other programs I've written to work without problem. But this one has me stumped.
Other things I've tried:
1) uninstall and re-install Adobe... ( no change )
2) written a super small adobe viewer program at work... ( works )
3) tried to comple as "any CPU", "x86", and "x64"... ( does not work )
4) bring .sln & code files to compile and run at work... ( does not work, HRESULT err )

I dont have a web site or web page, and this project is just a bit of fun (fitness test).

I have two slightly different versions of my VB applications that I would like to publish simultaneously. The differences are minimal and mostly include GUI and some internal logic. Incorporating changes into a single application is not an option right now.
I tried publishing and installing them separately but the latest installer always overwrites whatever has already been installed. For example, if I install App v1, then App v2, only App v2 will be visible. If App v1 is installed after App v2, only App v1 will be visible. What I want to have is to have them both installed. I am using Visual Studio 2008.

I tried to publish first in my local disk but after publishing Im having some errors "Critical error: Required processing file is missing" after clicking the setup.exe file. Now Im thinking of publishing this directly to my server. If I publish it directly to my server would it disrupt the running program? is it safe to do that? or is there something that I need to do it first?

I am trying to make the installation process as simple as possible for the user.I know its possible to use the executable from the debug directory as a stand alone executable, but are there any drawbacks to this approach? For example, if the user does not have .NET on their machine, the program will not run. Is there a way to publish the program so it is self-contained in a single executable file?

So I have to create two separate program, a Server Program that will manage all the information in the election and a Client Program where voters will vote their selected candidate...
The election officers wanted that the Server Program will display the Voting Results at real time... So when the Voter finished voting, The Voting Result displayed by the Server Program will also be updated every time the Client Program Insert the data to Database....
An action listener in Server Program that will execute if new data is inserted in a Table in the Database made by the Client Program...
I have a program where a lot of the required information for it is stored in text files. I simply read this information into large arrays. However, I don't think it's necessary to load all the information each time. Rather, it would be more efficient if I could simply search through a list of items to find the one I need and then use the data from it, or to find a similar name and use it elsewhere.
Would I be right in using a database? And is database programming done in SQL? I have a book on it telling me to use the SQL Server (IIRC), so I shouldn't be doing it in the VB.NET Express GUI?
Here's an example of what I would do:
Hex = 03 00 => dex number 003
Search in file Pokemon Dex Numbers
003 returns Bulbasaur
Check Bulbasaur base stats in the base stats file
etc
So basically I'm reusing a lot of information. I think a database would be best and it would all be internal right? I'm getting complaints about access denied to a text file (since it's stored in the program directory in the program files).
So to cap up the few questions I have:
-Databases are done in SQL and not inside the GUI?
-Databases would load internally?
-I could search a database without having to load it into like an array or something?
I installed my application on another PC but it denies to work properly ! Once it is started , an error message appears saying that there is an error : "Class is not registered" . I have registered various References that up to now were reported through that error message , but at this time I can't understand what exactly is missing . By pressing the Details button I get the following message :

I have VB project and I tried to use PUBLISH feature.It seems to create nicely some kind of setup program, but the setup program does not ask where to copy files (it does not seem to copy filesto target machine "PROGRAM FILES".)Is this setup program somehow different from usual installers?
NOTE: I want that app files are installed to Hard disk( from USB stick source)Is the signing recommended or necessary? My App is pretty simple, its just using access DB + printer api, should I still sign?
