View 2 RepliesI am using VB.NET 2008 and I want to delete an unused table from the dataset. When I do this I get error messages which seem to originate in the Table Adater Manager on the various forms. The only way I can figure out to correct this is to delete the table from the code after deleting it from the dataset designer. But it says that you shouldn't do this.

View 2 RepliesI'm currently trying to delete data from a dataset/datasource/database using visual basic. So here is the run down: I've built a program that can add, delete, and modify customer information from an Access database and I just got the add function working. Meaning, I can now add customers to the database and it is sticking to the database. I re-ran the program and even restarted the computer the computer and the data is in the database. This works fine. However, now I want to get the delete button working but I'm not sure why it isn't deleting some of the fake entries I made just to test out the add feature. Here is the code I am using:
Dim delCompany As UMD3.CompaniesRow
delCompany = UMD3.Companies.FindByCompany (NOT SURE WHAT GOES HERE)
delCompany.Delete ()

I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 to create an application (.VB). The application connects to a Microsoft Access 2007 database. When the user starts the application, the application pulls in the data from the database via the "TableAdapter.Fill" method. The user can then add/update/delete records in the form and those changes are saved and confirmed in the database. The problem is when the user close completely out of the application and restarts it, the modifications that were made and originally sent/saved to the database are wiped/deleted. It appears that the dataset in the application never saves the modifications and when the program restarts it uses the data that was originally loaded into it during the design/build phase of the application.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to work programmatically with a dataset. The tableAdapter was created by dragging and dropping the dataset on my form, and then deleting the binding navigator and dataviewgrid. The problem I am having is when I am trying to delete a record that is DBNull. The dataset.delete( ) call creates fields for each of the fields, along with their data type (say Description as String). but I get an error whenever the field has a DBNull value.
CourseTableAdapter.Delete(DBDataSet.Course.Item(1).CourseID, DBDataSet.Course.Item(1).CourseDescription)
The error is Throw New Global.System.Data.StrongTypingException("The value for column 'Description' in table 'Course' is DBNull."I do have Option Strict On, but the problem exists even if I turn it off.
How to perform add, edit, delete in a dataset that will update the database as well?
View 1 RepliesI am creating a form that creates new users and then updates them to a dataset, I have done this ok, but I am getting a runtime error when I delete a record. Please see below the exception being thrown

So I know I need to add a delete command, but how do I write this in code and do I write it in the saveitem click event? I guess I would because the app crashes when I click save to update the dataset.
1. Can someone show me sample codes on how to do that ?
2. I encountered a problem with the INSERT sql statement. I keep receiving syntax error in insert statement exception. Is there anything wrong with the statement ?

This works fine, unless I have Windows Explorer open and I'm looking at the 'MySubFolder' directory. Then I get an IOException The directory is not empty. - clicking OK dismisses this and then the folder structure is not deleted. Any thoughts on how I can get this to perform correctly (i.e. delete), even when running this code while having the folder struture open in Windows Explorer?

View 1 RepliesI'd like to create code for my datagrid view to be able to delete a row by first clicking the record selector column then pressing delete. Seems like some standard stuff but really difficult to create in VB 2005.
View 10 RepliesI'm trying to delete a number of records in a table from the last and forward. My idea is to use sql like this: delete top " & variable & " * from table where ID = something It gives me a general sytax error. Is it at all possible? Fuga. Edit: I also have the order by statement there. I just forgot to put it in the question.
View 5 RepliesWhen the user clicks an "Edit" button on my form, I want a box to come up which allows the user to edit a DataTable in a strongly-typed DataSet. What's the best way to do this?
View 2 RepliesI have code running in the Datatable.ColumnChanging event in my dataset. This dataset underlies a form and conventional drag/drop controls are in place for data entry.when the event triggers and runs, I am running code in the form that checks the dataset.HasChanges property. It is showing False. But this is immediately after the ColumnChanging event has been triggered.Okay, I see by others posts and MSDN that .HasChanges will only be true after moving off the row with the changed column. I have also noted lots of discussion about the advanced binding property of DataSourceUpdate Mode, but that does not address this issue.I guess I can do this by checking the state of the row for the binding source. Just seems odd that the event behind the dataset can be triggered and that does not change the dataset.HasChanges property.
View 3 RepliesI have tried everything I can to get beyond this error which shows below as <<<<< error here. It is trying to fill a dataset from a data adapter. If I change the SELECT statement to just SELECT * FROM xTable I get the correct number of records in each table. But anytime I try with a more complex statement I get the error message shown below which indicates System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet. I've completely erased all data and entered a new set of test data so I know there is no problem with relationships. Each table has primary key which is foreign key in other table. IS there something wrong with the Imports section: Imports System

I have a BindingNavigator and combobox tied to the same BindingSource. I want to allow the user to confirm a delete after hitting the delete button of the navigator. It appears that the row gets marked for deletion after my BindingNavigatorDeleteItem_Click event handler is processed. Is there no way to cancel the delete activity from within the delete click event? If not, then it becomes necessary to store a delete flag and catch another event to RejectChanges.
my deletecommand delete all my rows whenever i delete a row..but when i view it again the other rows still there and the i deleted is actually deleted.[code]
