Cancel The Input On Textchange Event Depending On A Condition?
Jun 18, 2009
i want to cancel the input on textchange event depending on a condition, how? for example, as user type in textbox, it fires textchange event, in that i want to do some condition testing, if value is true then accept new character or cancel the new input.
I'm having some major issues with this little booger. I will supply what I've tried, but let me explain what it should do first.
Upon the text change event, if the item number is found in the DB, it should add it to the list. Then, take the 7th sub item, and place it on a label. Each time a new item is added, the cost's should add together to give me a total. Simple enough right ?
CODE:
This is a huge mess, I'm very tired and not real sure how to do it. But the item is adding twice for some reason, sometimes after I've added it one time (appears twice) and add it again, it might add 4 times, or 5. And when two items are in there, the cost displayed on lblPrice is 4x as much as it should be. Can anyone point out where I'm all screwed up, and maybe suggest a different way to go about it ?
I used BackgroundWorker to solve a problem in my winforms application, I wanted to be able to cancel a long-running operation and see results live in ListBox while executing the operation. It works fine except when I want to add a checkbox with additional condition. The problem is when I want to run several operation at once. Ex. both XX and YY executing XX first and then start with YY in that order.
Private Sub UpdateDB_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnTestAll.Click If cbxTestYY.Checked OrElse cbxTesteXX.Checked Then SetBusyState(True) If cbxTestXX.Checked Then [Code] .....
I know I am trying to run multiple tasks on same backgroundworker which is not allowed, but I don't have any idea how to solve this so it runs in specific order.
i want to do this: when user click save button, the form must be check first..
if user did not insert the required data, user are not allow to save form..
the code:
Private Sub AssetMasterBindingNavigatorSaveItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles AssetMasterBindingNavigatorSaveItem.Click
I migrate a project from vb6 to vb.net.In vb.net project form's events are fired randamly. I mean form_Activated event are fired first after that form_Load event are fire. and this events are fired more than one time.what condition form_Activated event fired before form_Load event.
I have a drink program with 4 staff members and want to know how to cancel the input box if they accidently click on another persons login. can you close the input box by clicking can and to close the loop. All Logins have the same code just different names
'Marys Login Button Private Sub btnMary_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnMary.Click Dim counter As Integer = 0 ' Reserve Counter as integer in memory and assign a value to it
I have a drink program with 4 staff members and want to know how to cancel the input box if they accidentally click on another persons login. can you close the input box by clicking can and to close the loop. All Logins have the same code just different names
If Not IsNumeric(textbox1.Text) Then KeyAscii = 0 End If I learned in MSDN and wrote those code, but it doesn't work. This code " KeyAscii = 0" it's not correct, I just want to cancel the input, for instance,if user input 1a, then "a" will be not inputted into textbox, but "1" will leave.
I'm trying to do a calculation where-in the output is different depending on what the input is. [code] I have these repeated using >=50 >=60 etc. but when I go to run the program I get this: [code] basically I need to know how to create a cut off point for the grading system. <= doesnt seem to work.
Is there any way to get me a condition like this? If textbox1 (has string or integer inside) then how to make a condition if the textbox has an input in it or none?
I am using an input box. In tat am getting the number as input. When the user presses OK the program is workin. But when I press the cancel button am getting a error message
" Conversion from String "" to 'Integer' type is not valid "
If i press cancel I need the program to end. and also i want to know how to move to other form when i press cancel in input box
I want to make it so when cancel is used it exits the loop but I need the Input as a decimal. Do txtItems.Text = intCounter.ToString intCounter = intCounter + 1 msgInput = CDec(InputBox("Enter Item Price", "Item Price", "")) decSubTotal = msgInput + decSubTotal txtItemPrice.Text = msgInput.ToString("C2") [Code] .....
I created a sql stored procedure that will insert data for me depending on user input. Now I would like to know usually I would do something of this nature
Dim con As New SqlConnection(connectionString) Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("usp_userinput", con) 'references connectionstring and calls store procedure cmd.CommandType = Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure 'sets default to be storeprocedure lblMessage.Text = String.Empty With cmd.Parameters If (Session("UserInitials")) IsNot Nothing Then .AddWithValue("@UserInitials", Session("UserInitials").ToString()) End If End With
That is just an example how i usually approach calling the stored procedure in vb. However for this particular form I am going to have 50 or 60 textboxes which each one would require a session state variable.Seems a little tedious to have to create a session state variable for each textbox on the form.
Is there a way to repeat two popup input boxes (in succession) until the user presses cancel? Dim hours As Integer Dim letterGrade As String Do hours = InputBox("Total credit hours", "Total credit hours", ) letterGrade = InputBox("Letter Grade", "Letter Grade", ) Loop The input boxes continue to repeat but when I hit cancel nothing happens... I'm sure I'm missing something to tell it when I cancel to go back to the MainForm I just don't know what it is.....
I am new to VB and seeking to create a visual basic program which controls the display of several on-screen elements depending on a single value input by a user. The user can enter anyone of 2500 values and depending on the value entered, five different display elements on the screen will change color or text. The program's response to a given input value never changes, in other words if the user enters 279, the five different display items will always be the same. However, there is no real pattern to the display items that would allow for programming an anticipated response to the input value.
My thinking is to create a large and ponderous "lookup table" in visual basic - I am assuming this an be done but perhaps there is a different or better method. I plan on creating the lookup file in Excel but was assuming I'd need to export it to something that VB could easily read. Any suggestions on the best way to do this? Does the lookup table reside as a separate .txt files someplace or something like that? [Code]
I've already found evidence of another having this problem. You can see this on this post by someone else:

The problem is that when one navigates the combobox via the keyboard, the combobox's information doesn't update. If you click a value with your mouse, though, everything works wonderfully. The link I've mentioned suggests changing the binding from the Text property to the SelectedItem property. I'm very deep into this project and it would be a bit of a nuisance to change the setup so as to allow it to be bound to the SelectedItem property. What I'm wondering is whether or not I can detect the user changing the selected entry in the combobox and tell VB that they "clicked" the value, if that makes any sense.
creating a mortgage calculator that display continuous information depending on the user input such as monthly payments, remaining balances, and interest paid. I am attempting to use a list box and am currently stuck. [code] Please use code tags when posting your code. Code tags are used like so.
I have a ComboBox that contain ProductIDs and a DataGridView that lists Categories which a product can be a member of. My DataGridView list ALL categories, however, it has a checkbox column that get checked when the ProductID is a member of that Category, otherwise it is unchecked. A user may also check or uncheck a category checkbox then save.
The problem is, if a user forgot to save before changing the ComboBox, then his changes on the previous ProductID is gone How can I give the user a chance to either save or ignore the changes done on the previous ProductID (before selecting a new ProductID)?I searched the internet for an answer and I found the following code but it is in C# and I am not sure if it solves the problem or not!
Does anyone know of a reliable way to cancel the ItemCheck event on a CheckedListBox? I am in a situation where the ItemCheck event should basically discard changes on a form, however, if the person decides to cancel the discard I would like the ItemCheck event not to fire so as not to change anything.
what's the best way to stop a form from displaying in its Load event.I initialise a form using the following code:
Dim MyForm as new MyCustomForm
In the Load event of MyCustomForm, I ask the user to select a folder and use that to populate a listbox on the form.folder.If the user presses Cancel instead of selecting a folder, I don't want to display the form. Right now, I just call Me.Close in the Load event, but that still causes the form to briefly appear and disappear in the background. Also do I need to call Me.Dispose?
I'm trying to validate a textbox with a Regex and I need to cancel the event if it no meets the Regex expression, or delete the key pressed to meet so that the expression
For Example:
Dim rex As Regex = New Regex("^[0-9]{0,9}(.[0-9]{0,2})?$") Private Sub prices_KeyUp(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Textbox1.KeyUp,
Pressing Yes will do some action and close the app - works fine, Pressing No will do nothing and close the app - (see below), Pressing Cancel will Do nothing and keep the app open - (see below).
I'm using DialogResult. No for No button and DialogResult.Cancel for cancel button. But pressing either of them triggers DialogResult.Cancel event. Whats the problem?
I have written a code to print the crystal report instead of using print button in the crystal report viewer control.(I have done this in order to keep record of printed pages.) So, now there is a print button in my form, which upon clicked will show the printer select dialog box to print the crystal report pages. Now I need to track the event when user presses the Cancel button shown in the print dialog box?
I have two radio buttons. I fhte user swtich between radio buttons, I need to popup warning message and if user confirm, then only I need to swtich to next radio button. Otherwise I shouldnt switch. I am using CheckedChanged event. As by the time I popup warning message, control is already switched. I tried adding and removing event handler.
When I click the left or right arrow buttons on the keyboard my tabcontrol tabpage changes from one tab to another. How can I cancel the arrow buttons from changing the tab pages? In other words how can I disable the arrow buttons when the tabpage has focus? Is it possible to do this without extending the base class?
Winforms, VS2008 I have a mainform that has 2 usercontrols: UC1 and UC2.UC1 has a treeview with treenodes. UC2 has tabControl with few tabPages. Selecting different nodes displays different details view in the TabControl's TabPages. What I need is canceling the event when the user has selected a node in the treeview, then he selects another node (i want to be able to cancel this last event:selecting another node, all depending on a certain logic)I mean: When the user is working on a tabpage in the tabControl, when he clicks on a different node in treeview (different from the currently selected node), before displaying the new node's details in the TabControl, I perform some logic, then depending on that logic, I set
e.cancel = true in the UC2 Validating event handler. (Rememebr UC2 includes the TabControl and the user, supposedly, has the focus on a control somewhere in TabControl)
But mysteriously, the event gets never canceled and the user still moves to the next node, displaying its details in the TabControl, although I set e.cancel = true.
I validate a DataGridView with the CellValidating-eventhandler.That works fine. However, I want to avoid validating when the user presses the Cancel button. In the sequence validation occurs before the event CancelButton.Clicked.
A form has many buttons. One of those buttons contains code to update the TableAdapterManager. One of the many TextBox controls has code in a Validating event handler. There is code to make sure a US phone number is formatted properly. If the user tabs out of the TextBox the Validating code works perfectly and show a message to the user if the phone number is not properly formatted and the focus is place in the offending TextBox.If the user clicks on a button that has code to update the TableAdapterManager the Validating code fires but instead of focus remaining on the offending TextBox, the code in the button Click handler also fires.
I would like to stop the button code from firing. Here is the code for the Validating event of the TextBox:
Private Sub TextBoxPrimaryPhone_Validating(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles TextBoxPrimaryPhone.Validating ' Make sure the phone is formatted correctly.
[code]....
What additional coding to I need to include so focus remains on the TextBox?
