Cannot Populate Dropdownlist After Deploy Asp Project?
Jun 10, 2011
I'm using VWD 2010 and a SQL Explress 2008 remote database Within the IDE, I can populate a dropdownlist but after I deploy the website, I recieve this error:
System.IndexOutOfRangeException: There is no row at position 0.
Line 52: cmdEmpSched.ExecuteReader()
Line 53:
I have found a couple of examples on the internet to do this but really struggling to get it working in VB. (Tried a converter but had mixed results) I need the selection options of a Dropdownlist to be populated based upon the differing values in the first dropdown list.
Can anyone help with a releativley simple example in VB? Not fussed if the values are "hard coded" in the script. Or a SQL bit that pulls the data from a table
I'm trying to write a program that selects an item (Area Code) from a combobox and this list gets the city that was associated with this area code (another comnbobox list)
I have created a connection string, and i am populating a dropdownlist with an ID from a sql database.I want to be able to click on a ID from the dropdownlist and run a query to populate a gridview with data. I have made the dropdownlist autopostback = Enabled. I am not getting an error.
Here is my code:
Protected Sub DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ddlContracts.SelectedIndexChanged Dim ds As New DataSet
I am new to Ajax and have a rough idea about Ajax. I am developing a website having a feedback page in which, i want to populate the state/city DropDownList box depending upon the value selected in country DropDownList box.
I have seen some examples downloaded online but they are not working in my application due to many possible reasons, some of them may be the feedback page in my application is a content page, the web application is asp.net 2.0 web application, i don't have any additional ajax tools or scripts installed.give me the solution that should work with asp.net 2.0 web application (in VB.NET) and the feedback page is a content page. I don't want to add custom controls. I want to do it straight away with javascript or vbscript using XMLHTTP object.
After everything is set right with Ajax. What if the browser doesn't support Ajax? What should i do in such case?
Have two dropdownlist inside the edit template of a DataList. The first dropdwon is for state while the second is for town. The state is populated from a table state while the second from a table town when state is selected.
May i have a working sample on how to retrieve records from a DB & populate the relevant textboxes after a selection at a dropdownlist. What i have is definitely not working & im working on VS 2008. Can anyone show me the way?

I want to populate the dropdownlist ddVerantwortlich1 with the people with the proper credentials based on the selected process step ddProzesss chritt1.It doesn't work if I want to change it using datasource and databindi have to manually loop through the table in the dataset returned from the query. then it works. but not otherwise.[code]
I have an vb.net application that I want to install on client machine. The backend is SQL server. Could I make up a setup package that would deploy an application that includes the database with all the stored procedures and tables? The client pc do not have sql server installed there.
I have finished by killer app but it seems that I will have to go to a third party tool in order to create a deployment CD. My problem with both the 2005 version and the 2008 version is that the "Add New Project" window contains only the "Templates" panel. The "Project types" panel is missing from that window.I can see that I will have to do some hard work learning how to build a script for a third party deployment tool but I am very puzzled about why my "Add New Project" window is incomplete.I select << File/Add/New Project >> and it displays the incomplete window.[code]...
1.How can i deploy my project to other computers and transfer all the files that i need? I know i do publish, but do i need to change any of my files setings, or do anyting inparticular get the files to the automatically deploy.for example how MS Office suppliers all file you need to do templates and stuff.
2.How can i tell the other persons to create a folder if they havent got one? my locations to work from is here, but no one will have the rimless data sheets folder and the shapes folder.C:Program FilesRimless Data SheetsShapes.
I have made a project in vb.net 2008 and used sql server 2008 for database and how to make the setup that need to be deploy on those system which do not have sql server on their system .
Using Visual Studio 2010, Windows 7.Setting up project on one machine, then attempting deployment it on another machine with Windows 7 on it:When it comes to deployment, every time I have one to do, it is like pulling teeth.I am in file system setup, and I have a custom folder created with DefaultLocation set at [CommonAppDataFolder].Supposably you can use the "Common Files Folder" too, but that did not work either. What is happening is, I have three files in this folder, and two of them copy over just fine, when I look at the ProgramData/Tachufind folder, both of those files are in there, but no sign whatsoever of the third file.I have tried deleting and then re-copying the file back in, to no avail.I have tried setting various properties, to see if that will change anything, to no avail. Can't Microsoft make this easier, this is deployment-hell! Is there another application you can use to deploy a project without losing your sanity?
Let's say I roll out version 1 of this project for many users. As time goes by I update the code, change the Access db strucutre here and there, and would like to roll out version 2.What is the best way to do this?Is there an easy way to get the differences between version 1 and version 2 of an access db?
I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not but...I've written my first VB.NET 2008 Express Class Library project (addin dll) and now I need to deploy it. I see Windows Form Applications have a Publsh tab (ClickOnce) in the project properties window but my class library project does not. How do I deploy a VB.NET 2008 Express Class Library project?
I have a window having 2 dropdowmlists(schemename-SN and propertyno-PN) , one chkbox ,one "VIEW" button.SN has options "all" with value=0 and many other options with respctive values. Now,i want the code should behaves as follows:
1.0n window onload, SN must b visible bt PN nt.
2.if i select SN other thn All...the PN shud b visible and if i select "All" ,PN hides.
3.when check box is checked- PN hides, and if it is unchecked- PN visible..
Important:-This whole ddl n chk box are in updatable panel, button is nt in that.I want a browser compatible code so javascript can't b used directly(cz they give problem in mozzila and chrome).Right now, i have done this JavaScript and its is working fine.
function window.onload() { DisableProperty(); }
[code]....
but this code is not browser compatible.here onload, onkeyup and onclick functions are used , but they dont work in other browsers except internet explorer.
For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.
I have a project that I have created, it something like a contact database. It is complete with its own sql server database, and controls and forms.I kinda of understand that I can include this project into another project. This is the tricky part,Can I include my contact project into another project and add more items to the database and forms in a new project? What I'm after is like using classes. My contact database would be like the base class, and the new project would be adding more features to that project.
I need to deploy this app and currently the installer the path goes something like "C:Program FilesManufacturerApp". I just want it to be "C:Program FilesApp" by default. I know I can change this manufacturer from the properties for the project, but I want it to go away altogether. The setup project won't build with it gone.
My technique for deploying an ASP.NET webapp into production is as follows[code]...
I don't stop the database or run any additional tools to promote to production. It's a small company, and this seems fine. What's wrong with this technique in your opinion?
I made an app that uses a Access Db extensively(will be changed to sql later). I have hard coded the location of the db into the app,i use one click to deploy the program and then i manually copy the database into the location.
