If want to do a DataView.Find on a DataTable that is already 'ORDERED' by the Column I am seaching, so a DataView.SORT should not be necessary, but it throws an Exception if I don't give a .sort command before the .find command. Is there any way to avoid this apparant duplication ? and speed up the search time. Its a very large table - 1 million rows. I am using VB 2010

The strings are dynamically added to the combobox from underlying code. How do I get the comboboxe's width to expand? View 1 RepliesFor my app users can enter a SELECT statement themselves. This can be any select statement at all, it will be mainly used for creating a quick view e.g. SELECT * from table1 LEFT OUTER JOIN table2 on table1.id = table2.id.
Whatever this select statement maybe I load it into a datatable (after checking for no nasty stuff of course) in vb.net. I want to know the table names so I can query the database again for validation purposes on things like datatypes etc.
da.SelectCommand = New SqlCommand(sqlStatement, tempDB.Connection)
da.MissingSchemaAction = MissingSchemaAction.AddWithKey
dt = New DataTable
da.Fill(dt)

Does anyone know if it's possible to pad a column to the left using the RowFilter property in a DataView? My data comes from a third party via XML which I've converted to a DataSet. I'm inferring the XML schema to set the column datatype. I've converted the column in question to string in order to properly compare any text entered by the user. At the time I populate the data grid I format the column by padding it with zeros on the left side so that it is always 11 characters (Ex: 123456789 becomes 00123456789). This is for legal reasons and not optional. However when using the RowFilter property the zeros in front are obviously not accounted for because they don't exist in the DataSet.
This is what I'm doing currently:

View 6 RepliesI have a dataview object that is being populated by database fields - so I can sort on these partulular columns by specifying the actual column names without any difficulty. However, I have been asked to add a few more columns to the dataview, and these columns will be calculated columns, not directly derived from an underlying database column.The users want to be able to sort on these new columns as well - even though there is no actual column name I can use to sort.
I have not been able to see where I can sort a dataview based on the actual column integer value used when the user clicks the appropriate heading to sort.
viewManager.DataViewSettings(tableFoood).RowFilter =

This is a sample code
Dim dt As New DataTable
dt.Columns.Add("ID")
dt.Columns.Add("Time")

View 2 RepliesI'm getting familiar now with using the Dataset Designer and how it makes for quick and easy updates and query of tables. I use to use the OleDB commands and leave the Connection String as a Global Constant so I can easily change it if the server name changes, or if we have to re-direct the .NET to another instance of the database.
But now that I use the Dataset designer I'm concerned that I maintain flexibility and support in the long run. how the Dataset designer works and where it stores it's connection string info? And how difficult that would be to update. It looks like I modify the App.config file, but I'm unfamiliar with this.
What am I getting myself into? It looks like a standard XML file. Is that it?

View 2 RepliesI'm at the Studio 2008 stage in migrating from VB6 to Studio 2010. My application appears to run OK for the most part, but my MSFlexGrid display's single column is just 8 or 10 characters wide -- it should span the entire grid display (i.e., have the same width as the grid).The Studio 2008-Upgraded code sets several grid properties correctly, but the statement ".ColWidth(0) = .Width" (in the scope of a With block) causes an error. So does the statement ".TextMatrix(0, 0) = string".
Not only are these properties not included in the upgraded control (now identified as AxMSFlexGrid), but some column-related properties are greyed out in the properties list. My grid size was set originally by cursor drag, and the present .Size sub-properties of .Width and .Height are set to the numbers 593 and 329, respectively. (My form has a fixed size and is user-moveable but not user resizable.)
A ListView Column's with is set to -1 meaning its width is automatically set the width of the widest cell text in the column. I need the width automatcally set but I'd like to know the actual width of the column.
