I have a datatable and I apply a filter to the defaultview.rowfilter property of that datatable. If I then loop through the rows collection of the datatable, will I only be able to see those rows that the filter applies to, or will it loop through all the rows?

I am trying to use dataview.Rowfilter to filter datagridview for users. The basic idea is that user enters a text in a textbox, and then the below function is called to filter the text in all columns, like Col1=value OR col2=value OR col3=value. But I got error message of the filter expression.

This post is a continuation of my other post concerning 'List(of) with multiple comboboxes refill problem.'. I threw the list overboard and began anew with a Dataview.
So far I (finally) managed to get 2 comboboxes (will be more, but if it works for 2...) loaded with the same data using different dataviews (DataView1 & DataView2) so I can select a value from each combobox without the other following the selection.
But now I want to filter out the selected value from the other combobox.
This also works.
The only thing is this: If I select in combobox1 the value 3, and select in combobox2 the value 4, combobox1 will change to the value 2.
If I select in combobox1 the value 2, and select in combobox2 the value 1, combobox1 will change to the value 3.
It works also the other way arround. I can't seem to get my hands around the problem..
Does somehow the index of the items in the combobox play's part? I don't use the selectedIndex, so from my point of view it can't be..
The code I use:
(with the item 0 as 'neutral' option)
Public Class Form1
Dim dTable As New DataTable
[Code].....

I am trying to build a filter string for my DataView, but I have run into a problem. My underlying DataTable contains values that are formatted when displayed in my DataGridView. For example, if the DataColumn contains 1.52 and the DataGridViewColumn.DefaultCellStyle.Format = "n0" then 2 is displayed. So the user sees 2, then sets the DataView.RowFilter = "DataColumn = 2", and no DataRows are returned. Is there a way to format the DataColumn in the RowFilter string? For example, DataView.RowFilter = "FORMAT(DataColumn, "n0") IN (2, 4)". This filter string should return 3 rows. If not, can LINQ do this?

I am building a company intranet site and one of the requirements is having a list of all of the direct reports. That list is being populated to a gridview which will include phone number, location, etc. Eventually I will create an edit button that will allow managers access to updating some of the employees information. I am having problems setting a filter that will find the manager. Here is what I have so far...
Protected Sub DirectReports_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles DirectReports.Click
Dim userNameString As String
[Code].......

I 'd like to enable the user to apply a custom filter to a System.Data.DataTable.At the moment I have a very simple function like this:
Dim result = dataTable.Select(txtUserInput.Text)
With the filtered results I'd like to do further operations(e.g. Database Update/Delete).Is an sql injection protection needed or is the "Select" function secure?
//Edit:Can the "select" function be abused to manipulate any data in the datatable, execute code, ...? If the only danger is that this function can return to much/to less data there is no problem. But if the data in the dataset gets corrupted it's a real problem.

If want to do a DataView.Find on a DataTable that is already 'ORDERED' by the Column I am seaching, so a DataView.SORT should not be necessary, but it throws an Exception if I don't give a .sort command before the .find command. Is there any way to avoid this apparant duplication ? and speed up the search time. Its a very large table - 1 million rows. I am using VB 2010

So I have an array which holds instances of a structure. The structure contains various string properties.
I'm looking to modify each instance of a structure within this array by doing the following:
For Each stuInstance As StuInstance In arrStuInstances stuInstance.strCarName = "Benz"
But I found that this in fact fails to really change it permanently. If I do the following loops in the given order:For Each stuInstance As StuInstance In arrStuInstances

I have a vb.net 2008 desktop application to make changes to it. Since the production database will be changing within a month, I know that i need to change the .net remoing.
1.I change the configuration manager file (app.config) in debug mode to point to the 'new' test database, however the changes are not pick up. The application is still pointing to the current database. Thus can you tell when what kind of files.I need to change so that this application picks up the 'test' data base?
2. After I have tested the changes that need to be made, I will need to deploy the changes. Thus i am assuming that I will need to do something different so I can put the application changes into production. Thus, can you tell what kind of extra dlls, exe, xml, and other files I will need to include in the deployment package? Is there anything else I need to do in the deployment package? This application uses .net remoting to have the database connect to the various proejct files in the entire solution file.

Is it possible to code a program so that the name displayed in the Task Manager can be changed mid-process?I have searched for it but everything I found was either someone wanting to hide the name or was for VB6.I am developing a program that will be run in a dozen instances at the same time. There will be two (2) user input forms followed by a processing form containing nothing but a third-party component that we are forced to use to capture our data. What I am trying to do is change the name after the user input to indicate which instance this particular program is. That way, if the third-party component hangs, we will know which instance to kill.

Public Shared Sub SetManagerProperty(ByVal de As DirectoryEntry, ByVal pName As String, ByVal pValue As String)
'First make sure the property value isnt "nothing"

But what if the manager is not in the Company OU? How can I edit this to search for him in the entire domain?

When using VB.Net (2008) and paused in debugging, Edit-And-Continue is a great time-saver. However if you change any module/class-level information (variable, sub/function signature, etc), you get the error message like this:
"unable to apply this change while debugging"
While I can understand the technical challenge to making this work (and why it would be hard), it leaves me in a tight spot with just a few options:
1) Restart and recompile and get the program back to the same state
2) Continue debugging without making the change, and risk forgetting
3) Type up a reminder note to make the change All of which are annoying. Now I know that option '4) Just actually make the change' may not be possible. but does anybody know how to enable the following 'technically easy' possibility?
4) Let me change the code, get it flagged with the purple squiggly underline, so I can save it, but just ignore the change until recompile
I have checked the Tools|options|debug|edit and continue, nothing appears to let me do this.

I want to change the log file filtering at filtering at runtime. I am referring to the traceEventType in the following example.
My.Application.Log.WriteEntry(String.Format("{0:T} DeserilizeProperties", Now), _
TraceEventType.Verbose)
I have found the documentation that allows me to change it in the config file, but I need to do it at runtime. What I am trying to acheive is to allow a beta tester to turn on more detailed logging (according to the TraceEventType...) when encountering an issue in order to email me the log. And then switch back to less detail.TraceEventType.Information)
.Application.Log.WriteEntry(String.Format("{0:T} Send email", Now), TraceEventType.Information)

I am trying to filter the results of a datagridviw using the bindingsource.filter method.
Dim filters(2) As String
...
If Me.txtPartIDFilter.Text = "" Then
[code]....
The issue is in the last line. ID_Part is an Int64 data type filters(0) is a string so the system returns a "Can't perform 'Like' operation on System.Int64 and System.String" error message. As you can see I tried converting the data type, but that failed since it is encased in String.Format()- it's going to be a string no matter what, I suppose. It's almost 1:00 a.m. so I'm not firing on all cylinders.
