What I am suppose to do is change the Name the Solution project, and form file to Photo Solution, Photo Project, and Main Form.vb, respectivelyI am new at Visual basic and the book doesn't make and sence and I looked it up on line and it says to (Select Project > Project1 Properties. In the Project Properties dialog box, change Project1 to your project name, say Counter.)(different names but I got the idea of what they were trying to say)and I tried doing that but nothing happens (nothing changes), even over where it says "my project" it's still the same. What am I doing wrong, or is that the way it is suppose to be?

I had to switch computers at work to a laptop. My co-worker was using this laptop and we where both working on the same project using CollabNetSubversion to update the VB project. Well he left and reformatted his Laptop and now I am using it.
I took the VB project from my PC to the laptop and now every change I do won't show up if I run the program.I can completely commit out code for a form and it still runs!My trial version of VB ends in six days so I can't use the PC anymore.

I have a project with about 20 forms and each form have an average of 10 buttons. Today my boss woke up with the idea of changing the appearance of the buttons adding a background image to them. Is there any way to apply this change to any button in the project without making the change one by one? Creating a custom control is not the solution because is even more complicated at this point.

I have inherited a large VB.NET solution that was created in VS 2003. I am trying to update it to VS 2008 to maintain it. I no longer have access to an install of VS 2003.
The solution contains 15 projects that are console applications and 1 that is a Website application. The website application refers to some assemblies in the other console projects.
When I try to open the solution in VS 2008 all the console applications open but as it tried to open the Web application (or website? -- not sure) I see the dialog "Trying to open http://dmedibiz/dotcom.vbproj". It is unsuccessful in doing so. I don't have a website named http://dmedibiz on my development machine.
I tried changing the name of the website in DotCom.vbproj.webinfo, but that does not have any effect in VS 2008. When I go so far as to change the Hosts file so that the local machine resolves "dmedibiz" to the proper folder on my local machine, I keep getting prompted for a login and cannot access the folder even using the administrator login. I have tried adjusting the security on the Folder and in IIS Manager and even in the Frontpage Extensions, but nothing works.
So, what can I do to open this web project along with the other projects whose classes it references? Is there a way to change the website reference in the upgraded application? I actually do not want Frontpage Extensions in the site, but there was some reference to that also in the erro messages about installing them to "fix" the problem.
Here is the error I am receiving...
Unable to open the Web site '[URL]. Could not find a Web server at 'http://dmedibiz'. check to make sure that the Web server name is valid ...'
Can anyone tell me how to change the website location reference? Or must I remove the Web project from the solution and create a new Website and then copy in the files that need to be worked on?

I know that I can launch activate/Use functions in assemblies that I have created, but can I start subs? and If so could I start Sub Main from an Assemble? What I mean is I want to run the created program in memory from a sub main and I dont know how .
My other question is how can I change the type of output project? So from a console app to a Windows Form app? ( I am no longer talking about using the assembly dynamicly this is more about creating the physical exe as what I want it as.
I know that they are the Compiler options command line but is it the same as the ones that Visual studio use when compiling? (The ones you see in the out put window)

I would like to be able to change a single property for every form by code instead of doing it manually. I'm a little new to .NET development, and I thought I was on the right track with the System.Reflection class, but I still can't put all the pieces together. Here is a basic outline of what I'm thinking (pseudocode):

Using the clickonce deployment, how can I change the location where the project is going to be deployed? I want it to be deployed to program files!
Because at the moment and I suppose as default the files are going to C:UsersAdminmgrAppDataRoamingMicrosoft......, it is even hard to find them at all
And also how to create a shortcut after it installs ? those are the features I could not find how to do using the clickonce. I know there are setups as well but I have read somewhere that clickonce should be able those two things and I would prefer to use it.

I am creating a VB windows form applications , the working can be summarized as users fills some form and data is saved in sql server database. Now the problem i am facing is that i have to deliver this as a setup file to someone, and that person will further distribute it to different users to run on their PC, what i am thinking is that the code once installed on other computers and executed will give errors because of the connection string of sql server db as it will not match with that computer . I know that if a distribute projects i can put connection string in app.config and every user can change it according to his/her machine .But as i am giving a setup file how to solve this problem

In my earlier project I was able to change the connection string during the app settings loaded event and it was successfully. When I try to do the same for a code library project, I am not getting the system.configuration.connectionstringsettings to work. Could you please tell if there is a work around for this, or else it is always better to write the sql code instead of depending on the adapters etc.
Additional information: Clients App is WPF with Vb. Database is SQL Server 2008 Code Lib would only be on server, slq connectiona and data retrieving and saving actions are stored in classes in code lib only. Code Lib would be used with WCF, wcf is used to share the classes only and classes have the data. WCF is hosted as a windows service on server used by NET.TCP

With a steady tone feeding my audio input jack, the VU meters jump and bounce about 30%. I can also see the problem in the byte array of the capture buffer. I am running 8 bit mono so there isn't a chance that I'm getting a byte swap in a 16 bit word. My on board sound card is "Realtek HD Audio Input", direct sound 1.0.2902.0 and XP. Here is the real kick in the head, if I run anything that captures sound using the winmm library or if I use the winmm library in my application along with direct sound, the meters become stable. No errors are reported. Although I have written this in vb.net, I download another persons application that was written in C++ that uses direct sound with the same bouncing meters. I used the VU meters in Audacity to look at my audio levels and they are stable.

Each time I create a program, if I don't change the CPU type to x86 in the Project Properties, Compile, Advanced Compile options, it doesn't work. For example, if I hit the drop down button on a combo box, there will be no data, but after switching to x86, there is data. How does changing the CPU type affect how others (such as when its being graded) view the program? If the program is not run on an x86 system, would it appear to not work then?

It's just a small calculator project so it's no big deal, but after I had built the project, I wanted to change the project name and all the file names that had that string in it (and all internal references to that string). I had played with this before and knew that it was asking for trouble but I thought, "What the hell, I'll try it again." feeling a bit brash.
Well, everything works fine in debug mode, but there is this DOS window that pops up just before the main form does, and it doesn't go away for the entire debugging session. I think I see that window pop up on all other projects too (if the main form doesn't cover it up completely), but normally, it's only there for a split second.

I have a simple vb.net project that outputs a dll. In order to build this project, I have to reference some 3 3rd party dlls by manually adding them to the project and then building.
What I want to do now is auto build this using a app called CruiseControl. . . I have been told that in order to use the 3 3rd party dlls, I have to modify the .proj file to include the .dlls. The thing is, where in the proj file do I include this
and how do I do this? I think I may know where the section is and I have included it here:
[code...]
When I run the auto build program it fails (it runs through but fails at compile time); when I build this manually it works when i refer the dlls. What am I missing to make this work?

For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.
