View 10 Repliesi've been trying to toy around with generics in vb.net in an example project. At the moment, it looks like this:
I have an interface called IRow (and a class that implements it as a Datarow).
A second interface is ICanGetByRow, which looks like this:
Public Interface ICanGetByRow(Of T)
Function GetByRow(ByVal Row As IRow) As T
End Interface
The function simply takes an IRow and converts it to T. Thats easy enough. Now, for easier access, i want to implement a function in the IRow interface which takes the row and converts it into said ICanGetByRow.
My interface was enhanced by the following function
Function GetObj(Of T As ICanGetByRow(Of T))() As T
You can probably see the problem. If i implemented it like this:
Public Function GetObj(Of T As ICanGetByRow(Of T))() As T Implements IRow.GetObj
Dim foo As New T
foo.GetByRow(Me)
Return foo
End Function
i wouldn't be allowed to construct a new T, and when i tried to make it work by telling the generic function that my interface has a constructor, he wouldn't let me invoke GetByRow anymore.
Public Function GetObj(Of T As New, ICanGetByRow)() As T Implements IRow.GetObj
Dim foo As New T
foo.GetByRow(Me)
Return foo
End Function
how to tell a generic function that it will get a ICanGetByRow(of T) which has a constructor
I made a timer in visual basic, but for some reason, when i tell it to run for 1 minute (60k miliseconds) it runs wayyyyyyy longer. it does this even for 1 second, which seems to be about 10 seconds. here is the code behind it.

It is meant to average 15 user-input grades and then from there I have to provide the letter grade that corresponds with the average percent. I understand how to provide the corresponding letter grade, but I don't understand how to get the average. I've tried putting it into arraylist format
View 4 RepliesI need some help on telling the program how to check if user typed the text article shown correctly word by word as they are typing. I've tried
Usertypehere.Text = Articleshown.text
But the program only consider the user to type correctly if they finished typing the whole article.
iam currently working on my uni project and i have encountered a problem with valadation section. My system displays a message telling the user to input any fields that they have missed out on, listing the name of the field. However as these IF functions are in order the user must input the data in the order of how it is in the code. for example if the "consweight" is inputed and the calculate button is pressed, it thinks that all valadation above it has occured, when those fields are still empty.

Im having trouble changing the value of a textbox to integer. I want the user to enter a start number in the textbox, then when the user presses the button +1 that number is incremented by one.
This is what I have and it does not work Dim TestNumber1 As Integer TestNumber1 = Integer.Parse(TestNumber.Text) TestNumber1 = TestNumber +1

I have three text boxes in a winform (.net 1.1).
I am expecting the user to type in a positive number or just to leave it as zero (default).
Is there a way that I can check that the user has typed in a number rathet than letters.
As I am coding it in VB.NET, I would prefer it if any answers where in VB style rather than C# or C++.
I'm using VB 2010. What is the best way to convert a textbox to an integer?
View 11 Repliesi'm looking for a VB code to format integer into 5 digits and then after that auto increments like (00001 , 00002, 00003) And they are used in a text box field.
Scenario Example : When the user clicks on Add New Record. The empty id text box field will automatically insert a number 00001 on the textbox and if there user wants to add another record the number goes 00002 and so on.
Is there a easy way to input a string or integer into another exe's textbox for example, if i wanted to write into the textbox on the windows calculator '3'.
View 1 RepliesI am new to Visual Basic 2010, but I have been trying to make a line reader with an imported text document into a RichTextBox through an internet source.
I want the RichTextBox's line zero (the first line) to really be line one, but without changing the text in the TextBox to show the change. In other words, I want that change to happen in the background of the program.
I have tried... taking the text from one TextBox and putting it into another, while subtracting an integer value of onean attempt to use a timer to copy the text from one TextBox to another to read the line properly.
I have tried a couple of other things too, but most of them were much more complicated and I could not really explain what each thing did.[code]...

View 3 RepliesJust started programming with visual basic 2010 after programming a lot with vbs (Visual Basic script) it looks a lot like each other but there are a couple of differnces so here are a couple of questions.
1. What is a integer and what is a string?
2. Can i code an own sub? so it works at all times and not only when i " do something" (press a button or something like that)
for example: if progressbar1.value = 10 then msgbox " well done" now i can only add this line when i connect it to a button or something but i want to connect it to all the lines.
3. whats wrong with this line?: WebBrowser1.Navigate [URL]
I am trying to understand the do until loop when adding numbers along with a variable to a new line in a textbox, incrementing each time. My current example is very simple but only returns the first value. I require the output to be incremented automatically, so I thought a do until loop would be best.

I have a question regarding using a TextBox in second form within the same project. Currently I am using two forms. From the main form you can click a button which opens the second form. There, I want to type in an integer value into a textbox and use it for the code in my first form. Here's my

My friend and I are taking a visual basic online class. We are total beginners and are having trouble with a programming assignment. We have to create a arithmetic calculator with an enter button multiplication button and an addition button. What we can't seem to code properly is the event handler that allows us to use the enter button when we type in an integer in the textbox. This assignment is detrimental to our grade!

View 3 RepliesI'm using visual basic to code a program to help with weights and center of balance on aircrafts, as I'm my unit's new air load planner. The math isn't hard to do, it's just that much of it is trial and error, and redoing all the arithmetic over and over again until the aircraft's C/B is in acceptable limits can eat some time up. So, since i'm trying to learn programming I thought this might be a good way to use it for a real-world scenario.

I recently found this code (provided for third party use on another VB site), however,ll of my attempts to insert it into a class library have failed.I open a new class library and past the code in, and immediately get several errors pertaining to how certain objects can't be found. I find it it is crucial to use this code, unless someone can suggest to me another example of existing code that will do the same thing: make a restricted textbox who imputs can be restricted, that can handle pasting, shortcuts, text property setting, and script-entered text.
