Forms :: Validate Each Textbox So The Number Entered Is An Integer?
May 11, 2009
I have designed a form with textboxes for numerical entry. I need to validate each textbox so the number entered is an integer, and is between 0-1000. I am struggling to find how to validate the data entry.

I have this code that is supposed to validate that the value a user enters into the textbox is a number and not blank, but it is displaying the error message even if the user enters a number.
Private Sub txtAnswer_TextChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtAnswer.TextChanged
If Not IsNumeric(txtAnswer.Text) And (txtAnswer.Text <> " ") Then
MsgBox("Please enter a number! Try Again!")
txtAnswer.Focus()
Exit Sub
End If
End Sub
I just realized I already have another section that checks if the textbox is left blank, but I still need to check that it is numeric.

I started editing an existing code (basicaly to learn vb) without any real previous experience. Well let's get to the point;I have a form that gathers data from db ordering by user ID (on click count).I have one DataGridView with a list of user,some have data in db, some have not. I came so far that if I CLICK on a user that have data, all data is dissplayed in 6 dinamyc textboxes.If user has no data inly first (emty) row with 6 dinamyc textboxes is created.
BUT THE POINT IS (my question to you) - I have a button that simultaneously adds a row of dinamyc textboxes bellow and multiplyies textbox04 (name is clickcount & 4) and textbox05 and displays the result in textbox06.I want to add a messagebox that shows if textbox04 & 05 are empty and in that case exits sub. Here is my code so far:
Private Sub Button1_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
'Reset warnings[code].......

I'm doing a programming course at college, and I'm making a simple program that finds the mean of three numbers. Making the basic program was easy, but I can't work out how to validate the text boxes so that they only accept numbers. I've Googled, but I haven't been able to find anything. I have a look on the forums here but couldn't find anything either.

is there a flag i can call to validate the text entered in to a databound combobox?
My situation is that i have a combobox where users can type in whatever they like, but OnLeave i'd like to ensure the value in the combobox is one of the items in the data that its bound to.
i'm avoiding a listbox because the suggest/append creates a nicer interface while they are typing as it shows possible matches.

Hi, I'm working on a program that reads text entered into a textbox and creates a list of items by separating entries by commas. Everything is working fine, except, because I am using an array to store the items in the list, I have a limited number of entries. This is only a problem because, as it is written currently, each comma counts as an individual entry. Therefore, users can enter ",,," for example, and it would use up 3 places in the array.
I'm looking for a way to check to make sure there is text after the comma before adding an entry. I've attempted to use the .substring command to check the character after, which works until it gets to the last character. Because there is no character after that, it will give an error.
Here is my code for extra clarity:
Public Class frmMain
Dim intCounter As Integer 'Stores the # of commas in the string
Dim Messages(49) As MessageProperties

i am trying to put a maximum row number of lines in a multiline textbox. What i want is to achieve something like a console, with a maximum number of rows, with the top rows to dissappear and to keep always the last i.e. 500 rows. a note: for the textbox text i use the following algorithm
dim text
textbox.text = textbox.text & vbcrlf & text
the problem is that after a certain number of rows the program starts to get a little slow. So i guess if i put a limit to the rows i will fix this.

I am new to visual basic. Below is my
Private Sub todayMonth_Validating(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles todayMonth.Validating
Dim tb As TextBox = DirectCast(sender, TextBox)
If Convert.ToInt32(tb.Text) >= 1 And Convert.ToInt32(tb.Text) <= 12 Then
tb.Tag = True
[Code] .....
Actually, I wanted to validate the todayMonth textbox just to input number between 1 to 12. The problem comes out when I do this procedure : Lets say I input an interger 11 and it passes the validation and proceed to another textbox. Then I click back to the todayMonth textbox, it shows this error :
"Conversion from string "" to type 'Integer' is not valid."
I don't know why my value in the textbox is "null" or empty . I still saw the value 11 on the textbox.
