This is in MVC3, VB.net. I'm looking for an easy way to validate a users input data into the editorfor field.
Haveing troubles with an assignment. I am writting code that will allow user to enter a score and the program returns a grade based on the score entered. I can get it to work using "IF" statements but want to use code for ranges. My "IF" code is as follows.......

writing a function to validate that a user has entered their full name (so at least two names must exist in the textbox).

Windows forms Application. VB .NET 4.0 In my application I have a global boolean variable that keeps track of when changes are made and when they are saved called changesSaved. On closing even it checks the value of this variable before closing the window.. I am using textchanged event to automatically change the value of changesSaved to FALSE when text is changed.. Problem: The group box items are being populated dynamically so the user can edit the values or simply just view them. This dynamic population is causing the textchanged event to fire because the program is changing the text value of the box to put the values in that are stored in the database. The textchanged event should not fire unless the user him or herself enters a value or values in the text boxes..
Is there a way to specify the source i guess you could say for the text changed event or another way so that it will only fire when the user inputs information.??? Functions are as follows: The first is called by the load event to place the values in the box... The next one is the one that is being called as a result of the first one and is also the one that is causing the problems.

Setting a textchanged event to only fire when text is actually entered by user not program
View 1 RepliesIm trying to create a program that takes an amount entered by the user and then convert it into Half Dollars, quarters, dimes, nickles, and pennies when the calculate button is clicked. Each coin has its own function and is shown in separate text boxes... right now i cant get it to work correctly. When i try to get half dollars to work it rounds up and then the rest of the coins say 0. How should i do this?

How to get if the date entered is in the range?
Ex. the month of April, the number of days is only 1 to 30. What if the user will enter the date range of 4/1/2011 to 4/31/2011 in the mask textbox? I am using Mask textbox because datetimepicker will not accept empty value and it cannot be empty either.
I'm asking this because I encountered an error when querying in MS SQL SERVER 2005. It says "The conversion of char data type to smalldatetime data type resulted to in an out-of-range smalldatetime value." I thought it was the casting or conversion problem. I've observed the SQL when transacting and I found no difference with my code.
So then, I just figured it out that my date exceeded the number of days of the April month.
is there a flag i can call to validate the text entered in to a databound combobox?
My situation is that i have a combobox where users can type in whatever they like, but OnLeave i'd like to ensure the value in the combobox is one of the items in the data that its bound to.
i'm avoiding a listbox because the suggest/append creates a nicer interface while they are typing as it shows possible matches.
I have designed a form with textboxes for numerical entry. I need to validate each textbox so the number entered is an integer, and is between 0-1000. I am struggling to find how to validate the data entry.
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to validate input boxes for numeric value and range value. If I validate for either numeric value OR range value there is no error (for example, comment out one of the validation statements), but if both statements are present and I enter "a" I get an error "Conversion from string "a" to type 'Double' is not valid." Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I have a need to verify SSN's that are entered based on a reserved range (these are used for advertising and will never become valid). The input is from a masked text box formatted as 000-00-0000. I may be wrong, but I figured the most logical method would be to remove the hyphens and convert the string to an integer, then compare the starting point and end point of the range.
'Valid SSNs
'Currently, a valid SSN cannot have an area number between 734 and 749, or above 772, the highest area number which the Social Security Administration has allocated. This should not be confused with Tax Identification Numbers which include additional area numbers.

I am trying to make a Windows Form in VS 2010 that is used to determine whether someone is entitled to a prize/medal/award whatever you want to call it. So basically if someone clicks on a check box to say they attended an event and they enter a date range between saying they attended the event between 01/01/2010 - 01/02/2010 and the requirement for the award is that they attended the event for more than 20 days then because the statement is true I would want a box to pop up and say person is entitled to receive a particular award. There are multiple awards available based on different conditions so to be eligible for so the result would be dependent upon which boxes and date ranges are selected.So For Award1 the logical argument is something along the lines of
IF Event1CheckBox = Checked AND
Attendance => 20
Result = Entitled to Receive Award1 Else = Not Entitled To Receive Award1

I would like to validate some data from the user and their corresponding value.
e.g.
2 = ABC
6 = MNO
6 = MNO
7 = PQRS
8 = TUV
8 = TUV
3 = DEF
if the user had input the numeric data on textbox1, then the alpha phrase will show on textbox2.
What i want to run is that if i press the "execute" button, it will look for a word than can be create using these letters ( e.g COMPUTE )
Then it will display the word "COMPUTE" on textbox3.
Is there a function or method i could use to do that?

I am trying to create a new class to validate user input and then call that class from my main form. I am not looking for anything to do the work for me, as this is the last part of my project but I am looking for a place to start. I tried the isNumeric IF statement but I have to create an object to reference the specific text box. Can I be generic and say that aTextBox requires validation and then call that class?

How do I pull this data from the boxes?
My project consists of a user interface designed in Visual Studio 2010 Express. I have it linked to an Access database. At this time, I have two text boxes that the user will enter a number. I want to be able to write a query that will take the first and second number and pull the information from the database that is equal to or greater than the user entered number

View 1 RepliesI Create an application that when a user enters a positive integer value in a input box(the default number is 10) when the OK button is clicked, the application should display a message box with the sum of all the integers form 1 through the value entered by the user. If the user enters a negative value, the application should display an error message. I believe I have to use a loop condition but I have no idea what to do.
EX: User enters 10 in the input box once OK button is pressed a message box pops up and says "The sum of the numbers 1 through 10 is 55". Use the following test data to determine if the application is calculating properly
VALUE SUM
5 15
10 55
20 210
100 5050
I have a report that requires the user to enter their ticket number, then they click view, and it generates. Pretty standard. What I would like to do is have the report automatically export to a pdf when they click view. Does anyone know if this is possible and how I would approach the matter?
