What would be the best way to run a subroutine over and over again every X seconds. I want to avoid creating an infinite while loop to do this because this sub needs to be called repeatedly while the rest of the program is still active and responding.

The file name is already contains all the information I want. Eg. 2011--8-27_13:20:45_MyLocation_User1.jpg.

View 2 RepliesBackground Story: My program contains a form and 3 buttons (Add New, Delete, Edit...etc), and it works perfectly. Recently, I decided to add menuStrip, since it helps end-user to work faster. So, I put the menu strip coding.
However.....Sometimes, it works normally. But sometimes it works very strange.
Strange 1. When I chose the "Add New" item in the menu, the Add New Form will be showing up, and then I clicked on the Cancel button in the Add New Form. The Form kept showing up repeatedly. But sometimes, it works normally. (Note: Add New Form's Cancel button contains one line simply coding, it's "me.close")
Strange 2. When I chose "Delete" item in the menu, the MsgBox showing up (since I coded it and it's a warning message to end-users), but the MenuStrip KEPT showing up, so the MenuStrip overlapping the MsgBox. (I expected the MenuStrip disappear in this situation)
Is some codings I have done incorrectly?
Here below is the coding:

View 1 RepliesI am writing a text editor program and I have written the new, open, save as, exit menu items but I am struggling with writing the save option.Now I have created the menu itself (well vb did, I just used insert standard items) but how do I code up the save menu option so that it updates the current document or if the documnt has not yet been saved bring up the save file dialog.Here is the code I have so far
Public Class Main
Private Sub NewToolStripButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles NewToolStripButton.Click, NewToolStripMenuItem.Click[code]....
I know I have some finishing touches such as messages and error handling and stuff but at the moment I want to get all the basics working,I think the save menu option is all I am struggling with at the moment.
I have one listbox an import button and a save button. Basically the import button allows the user to select photos and he list box then shows the directory for them. Is there a way to save the image that has been selected to a different place? whilst at he same time changeing the file name.e.g. the list box would have the directory like this "c:documentspicturesimage1.jpg" I would then like to save this file like such "c:desktop est103.jpg"

View 9 RepliesI'm a computer science student and I have a project to do where I need to have VB connected to a webcam to take captures of items and then save them according to the item name that stores them into either a dbase or access database. I have knowledge of oledb using vb to retrieve and modify access databse so it might be better to head in that direction, but I have no clue how to get the webcam talking to vb and see the live feed from the cam until you take a picture and save.

View 1 RepliesI have a problem with a combobox. I have a form (with information about clients) with textboxes binded to a dataview. One of the columns in the dataview contains a number that tells me what kind of client it is. I don't my users want that my users have to fill in a number in a textbox, but I want them to choose a item from a combobox. De selected value should be the value that is actually saved in the database.
This is my
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand
Dim dr As SqlDataReader
VerbindingMaken()
cmd.Connection = cnnVraagbaak
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
[Code] .....
De Datasource is the information in my combobox. With Databindings I'm trying to bind it to my dataset (or view, that doesn't work either) with clients. Every time I get a NullReferenceExeption. The moment I remove the line cbo.DataSource = dsRelatie.Tables("Relatiesoort"), I don't get an error, but it doesn't work either.
That dataset is filled (I've checked) and also the derived view. The column Relatiesoort exists. What do I have to do to make it possible for my users to choose an item from a combobox and save the selected value to the underlying dataset?
I am trying to understand how the binding navigator buttons are actually working.
I started by creating a table called "Students" in MS Access,
I then "dragged and dropped" that table onto my VB form after importing the data connection.
When I debug, I click the add new (the yellow plus "+") then I type info into my fields (700_Number, First_Name, MI, Last_Name). (700_Number=Primary Key)
After I am finished typing into the four text boxes, I click save. If I end my program then start the debugger again, the record is still there...it goes away only if I change some of the code anywhere in my program.
Also, I am trying to use the record I just put into my database for another part of my program. I use this line of code:
MsgBox(frmAddStudent.DrByrdsTaskListAppDBDataSet.Tables("Students").Rows(0))
This is just to see if what I am trying to put into my database is actually making it there. Every time I run, this message box turns up blank.
I can do this using VBA, but I want to be able to create the code using a compiled VB programme, which can then be opened in Excel.
View 1 RepliesI have coded a low-level mouse hook. Each time the user clicks (let's say) the left mouse button, a custom event gets fired which is then handled by a form in my application. On the form is a ListView control with the following columns: Time - Application - Button.
I want that ListView to contain the last 1000 mouseclicks made, so each time the CustomMouseClickEvent gets fired, I check for the itemcount of the ListView, I add an item to the ListView and I resize all three columns. Problem is however that this extremely delays the processing of the mouseclick messages.
I'm wondering if it's possible to raise the CustomMouseClickEvent and then handle it in my application while at the same time the mouseclick message is passed on to the next hook to get processed by the systen?
