Comparing All Rows In A Sql Table Against A "master Record"?

Let's say, for example, this is a quiz where the answers are already loaded into a database from different students. Inside of the table with various student entries containing various student's answers there is a row "masterentry" with all of the correct answers.
What I would like to do is code a button that will pull the master row on click and compare every other row against it. Starting with the first row, every time the column matches the master entry 1 point is assigned to a declared integer. When the row has completely been read the integer is stored in a "totalpoints" column. Then it moves on to the next row of answers.

I am using MS-SQL and I am trying to write a query which fetches rows from the master table and related rows from the detail table. Now, the thing I want is that it must only fetch the first row from the master table and related field from the detail tables should be blank in that first row, now if there are related rows found in the detail tables, they must be shown in the separate rows. I am leaning VB and have created a basic inventory app for work that consist of 4 tables, CurrentInventory, Surplus, Staff and Category. Each of these tables have a corresponding form. My question is with the CurrentInventory and Surplus form/tables. I want a button on the CurrentInventory Form that when clicked the current record would be transferred to the Surplus table and deleted from the CurrentInventory table.I am assuming that I could somehow use the INSERT command to copy the current record to the surplus table but I am not sure how to accomplish this.

I have a large form that is set up from master-detail datasets in Visual Studio 2008.I havene master table with a large amount of detail tables. Several of the detail tables also have detail tables linked.Now I need to add a master table that sits on top of my existing master table making it a detail table.

I am using Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008. I made one preject using Employee table and Employee_Permission Options(Yes/No/Override/Never). I want to both table in form detail view most using combo box. if I used Employee detail view and Employee_Permission Datagridview than its work fine to add/edit/update but if table Employee_permission I used detailview (all Combobox) than I can not add/edit/update records. I can add only employee but can not add record in employee_pemission. I have relationship with two table EmpID in both table Primery key with auto increase in Employee table.

I found out how to keep track of the currently expanded grouped rows by using 2 events:
- gridview.GroupRowExpanded
- gridview.GroupRowCollapsed
Where I increase or decrement an integer that keeps track of how many group rows are currently expanded. I am now tackling the problem of what to do if the user expands or collapses all of the group rows. I currently know when this is done by checking the e.RowHandle. Any way to find the total number of groups rows currently in the GridView (something like rowcount for normal rows) so I know how many to set the tracking integer to.
For Example: If my current count is 2 and the total number of groups are 15 then when the Expand All is fired the current count is set to 15 rather than 3.

I am new to VB.net and have created a simple master detail windows form. I created a two table data set and then dropped the master table on the form as a continues form or a detail form with several text boxes to hold the data. The child form is a data grid.
test data that I have added directly to the database shows up with the proper parent child relationships on the form. I can also enter new records into the database using the parent only portion of my form.
When I attempt to enter a complete record with data in both the parent form and the child data grid I get this error. The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint

I have searched for a possible reason for this error but can not find any explanation. I have noted in earlier versions of VB.net you had to enter code to save the child record, but the VB 2010 code does not seem to use the same syntax so I assumed the UpdateAll eliminated the need for the extra code

Scenario: VB2010 express + Sql Server 2008 express.
I have a master/detail form where I can modify a record. With VB 2010, I use the new Table Adapter Manager which handles all Updates/Deletes against the database inside a Transaction. Question is that before I update the modified record (only the master one), I need to insert it in another table (history table). My question is how I make both insert and update inside the same Transaction. By code? Using Stored Procedure?

I have Dataset ds filled up with values Until now I was displaying values in GridView. Now I want that all the rows should be columns and columns should be rows.I have 2 options: Either 1 I can directly convert grid to columns and display it, or 2 I can convert the GridView to html and then write loops to convert. I was trying the 2nd option but I cant figure out how I should do that.[code]With this code I am still getting same as GridView. Please help me for converting rows to columns and vice versa.

I have a Master List in the DataGrid that displays all the "Monitors" - think of them as Audits (for context). Basically when a user clicks on a row in the DataGrid the TextBoxes, ComboBoxes, CheckBoxes and DatePickers all show the values and the user can edit them there and that all reflects in the DataGrid just fine.How do i go about using the same TextBoxes, ComboBoxes, CheckBoxes and DatePickers to add a new record?

I have two tables Products and Categories with a many to many relationship. I am trying to copy the categories linked to one product (OriginalProduct) to another product (newProduct). The problem is when I execute the SaveChanges() method, I not only get the records in my linking table, but it also creates another copy of the categories in the categories table. I've tried this in many ways but here are the last couple that I've attempted:

I'm receiving the following error:"You cannot add or change a record because a related record is required in table 'FORN_NIB'."
I cannot understand this error fr the related record really existe on the FORN_NIB table. It is even picked up from there. Here's the code where the error occurs at the .Update instruction:

Does any one know how I can compare the numeric value of a text box on my Visual Basic 2008 form to the values in a particular column of a SQL database table? Things seem to work fine with bound controls when there are related records in the child table, but if a value is selected that has no related child records the form continues to display old information from the last record viewed. I would prefer to have the fields on the form go blank.

After inserting into masterTable it returns an ID. With that ID I want to enter more than one row into a transaction table.
I am using two separate procedures. The problem is, after inserting the record into master, and while inserting into the transaction table, if any interruption occurs I want to abort the corresponding insert of the master table.

I've got a table in an SQL server that often has large amounts of data imported into it via an automated process - the problem is that a lot of the data that gets imported is a duplicate of data that is already in there (for example if we have a customer in there called Mr Customer Ltd, a duplicate with a slightly different name could get imported, like Mr.Customer Ltd).
So I am using the Fuzzy Logic class that Wild Bill put in the CodeBank to find names that are similar and then highlight these items. The thing is that the target table that the imported data ends up in has several thousand rows and the table that contains the data to be imported often contains several thousand rows as well, so I'm trying to decide how to do this. Obviously reading both tables into memory is not an option as it will consume too much memory on the client PC that is running this app. So this is what I am doing at the moment:
1. Read the table that contains data to be imported into a DataTable in memory
2. Open a connection to the target table and use the SQLDataReader to start to loop through it
3. In this loop, for each row that the data reader reads I then loop through the entire set of rows in the DataTable and run this fuzzy logic method that compares the account name from the current row in the datatable loop to the account name in the row that the datareader is currently on.(there is also a Thread.Sleep(1) after each row is processed to prevent the process from eating up 100% of the CPU while it runs)
