i want to convert text box inputs into a list box. i have 7 text boxes like; fname, lname , email, phone, etc
how would would i call those textboxes into a list box. also it it possible to make headers for the the listbox.
This is what I'm trying to do: I have a listbox to display a list of costs that the user inputs. I want to use some kind of loop to add those numbers from the listbox sequentially, then display the total in a label.
How do I set up a loop (and what kind of loop is best) to pull the numbers and add them to a total? give an example of what the code might look like. I'm new to VB

I'm trying to solve a problem regarding types of list. First of all I have a stored procedure in my DB which does a select of a single column and I try to proceed it in my app in VB. By making a method function I declared a DataTable that loads through the SqlCommand(with the CloseConnection behavior). After that I publicly declared a List(Of String) which needs to be populated with the rows/items from the stored procedure that is on the way. Below is my snippet of the code:

It's LPrefix = collection.Cast(Of String)() where I get an exception error telling me that I can't really convert it. The old fashion way is to iterate with for/for each loop but that's not what I want for best use of performance especially if the list will have thousands of rows from a single column. So basically, I want to insert those items from that DataTable to the List(Of String) without For/For Each loop.

To me, this seems like a reasonable line of code.
Normally, I'd choose List<String> [or, in VB, List(Of String)] over StringCollection whenever possible: see also Best string container.
However, as it seems, generics — and hence, List<String> — are apparently not supported in VS 2008's settings designer. Therefore, if I want to use a list of strings in my user settings, I have to resort to using a StringCollection there.
Now as I don't want to see StringCollection throughout my code, I need to convert it to List<String>. How do I do this efficiently? Or, even better, am I mistaken and there is a way to use List<String> in settings designer?

I have a jpeg file that is being held as a list(of Byte). Currently I have code that I can use to load and save the jpeg file as either a binary (.jpeg) or a csv of bytes (asadsda.csv). I would like to be able to take the list(of Byte) and convert it directly to a Picturebox without saving it to disk and then loading it to the picturebox. If you are curious, the reason I get the picture file as a list of bytes is because it gets transfered over serial via an industrial byte oriented protocol as just a bunch of bytes. I am using VB.net, but C# example is fine too.

View 5 RepliesI am trying to Add the name of every folder in a directory to a combobox as a string to use in other code. Then I would like to truncate the last 3 characters off of the folder names.Example:
My main directory is C:Main
My sub folders are C:MainsubOne_bp
C:MainsubTwo_bp

I want a combo box with the following added durring run time.

The following code will get me the folder names in the combo box, BUT it will not truncate the _bp off of the end and they are added as IO.DirectoryInfo that cannot be used as a string in other tasks.

I am looking for a way to convert my List(Of string) into an Object in vb. So in the end it would be the same as declaring Dim cArray() As Object = new Object. Can anyone point me to how i can achieve this? I cannot use the LINQ .ToArray as that creates a string array and this is not acceptable for my work. View 4 RepliesI'm trying to create a small program, which I think will be helpful to others(in here). My aim is to convert the English text shown in screen to Malayalam. English-to-Malayalam conversion is not a problem. But the problem is, how to extract the text from the screen. In most of the converter/translator, the text needs to be copied or written down in the translator tool. But my program will cut off that part. That is, simply move the program window (having a rectangle hollow portion) to the English word that needs to be converted. And upon pressing a button (or autodetect), the English word is converted to Malayalam.
So, my question is how to extract the English text(or words) from the screen (which is seen through the hollow portion of the window.

I am building a vb.net application with VS2010. The aim of the application is to change sln. files from VS2005/2008 versions into VS2010.I am using a Form with 2 text boxes and 2 buttons. When I click the 1st button it reveals the sln file in the text box. Then i have a 'convert' button that I want to use to 'convert' the file that appears in the first text box. I have come quite far with the source code but am just a bit puzzled as to how i can retrieve the VS2005 sln files and to get the 'convert' button to display the text in the 2nd text box.[code]

Reason: it's a list of database IDs and I want to make a comma delimited string to pass into a stored proc.I tried this:

but I'm clearly not using the Cast correctly since it throws an exception:

Is correct in that it returns the list of XElements I want (items 1 - 4, base 0), but I really just need a list of strings for the .Value of those XElements. Maybe I'm just dense here, but anything I've tried in the chapterTitles query isn't working (appending with .ToList.ToString, etc.). details.<Vector>.<Item>.Skip(1).Take(4).Value just returns the first XElement's value.
