Create A Formatted Summary Table That Would Look Organized When Opened In Excel?
Aug 24, 2009
I need to:
1) Read a CSV file,
2) Put the data in a list object that I can sort,
3) and populate a few GridView controls on a form,
4) Write my sorted list to an excel file, which I've never done.
I'd like to create a formatted summary table that would look organized when opened in Excel. Who is best person/ or place to ask about that?

Let's say, I have something like a table in the WebBrowser component, it's not actually a table, because the data organized in flash, but, it's organized like a table, it has like rows and columns. You can see more in the attached file. Can I transform this text organized as table into DataGridView or some another tool that serves as table. like_a_table.JPG

I'm attempting to copy cells, one at a time, from an Excel 2003 (or 2007) spreadsheet to a Word 2003 (or 2007) table. I'd like the code to be version-agnostic, and so am using late binding. The formatting of the contents of the Excel cell, such as color, underline, strike-through, needs to be preserved. My approach is to use a Word doc as a template. It has a table at the top which I can copy to the end of the doc, add rows as needed, and fill in the word table cells with the data from the excel spreadsheet. Unfortunately, all the formatting disappears. All I get is the text itself.

We're making a project named personal digital library. It works like an automatic file organizer, which organizes files accdg to different topics, which falls under document categorization. The problem is we don't know what algorithm will be used in our project, we're using VB.NET 2008. Another is do we need to create a database to store the files to be organized?

what is the best way to create a summary row like on the picture?[URL]..I'm trying it with an another dgv, but I can't create a dgv without column headers. Setting the visible property to false isn't good, because I must set the position of the summary balances.

I use the following code snippet
Dim exlapp As New Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application
Dim xlWorkBook_new As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Workbook
Dim strOriginal As String
strOriginal = Server.MapPath(Request.ApplicationPath & "/Attachments/") & "abc.xls"
xlWorkBook_new = exlapp.Workbooks.Open(strOriginal)
The code hangs in the last line. It works fine in the development environment. i deployed in windows server 2000 ,where I get this issue. the browser goes half way and throws the below exception after some time
[Code]...
I have set the identity impersonate to true in web config. This should be mostly an access rights issue.I have even provided access rights for the "everyone " user in the excel file and as well for the interop component. Please post ur valuable comments.

Assuming I have a list of shifts for an event (in the format start date/time, end date/time) - is there some sort of algorithm I could use to create a generalized summary of the schedule? It is quite common for most of the shifts to fall into some sort of common recurrence pattern (ie. Mondays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, Tuesdays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, etc). However, there can (and will be) exceptions to this rule (eg. one of the shifts fell on a holiday and was rescheduled for the next day). It would be fine to exclude those from my "summary", as I'm looking to provide a more general answer of when does this event usually occur.
I guess I'm looking for some sort of statistical method to determine the day and time occurences and create a description based on the most frequent occurences found in the list. Is there some sort of general algorithm for something like this? Has anyone created something similar?
Ideally I'm looking for a solution in C# or VB.NET, but don't mind porting from any other language.

How to create a pivot table on an Excel spreadsheet via code. The reason I took so long is because I added a reference to the Excel Interop 12.0, rather than the Excel Interop 11.0. I assume that 12.0 is for Excel 2007, while 11.0 if for 2003 (or whatever I have). If that assumption is correct, this will cause me a bit of trouble, as all the people using the program are in the process of moving from 2003 to 2007, and I should have moved myself, but didn't for some reason unknown to me (I thought the upgrade was pushed out to my computer when I was at work, but I don't seem to have it anymore). However, my concern is that the objects needed to create a pivot table in the 12.0 library are significantly different from the objects needed to create a pivot table in the 11.0 library.
I don't believe I can late bind to solve this, because there will need to be different steps taken depending on the version, since the objects have different interfaces. It appears to pertain only to pivot tables (for what I'm doing), as I was able to create the workbook, the worksheets, and export all my data with some old code that I had, and all of that worked with both libraries, the difference is just with the pivot tables because the interfaces have changed, such that the methods needed for one library don't even exist in the other one (and the code crashes, but that's probably because I have the PIAs for 2003 installed, and not 2007).

I'm exporting a datagridview to excel. The first column is a Date (not DateTime) which appears like '2/15/2011'. After exporting the datagridview to excel it appears in excel as '2/15/2011 0:00', furthermore the first 68 rows in excel appear as '6/14/1898 12:00:00 AM'. Where is the time coming from? The column type in the database is date. I've attempted to edit the cell style of the datagridview column to date. I've attempted to figure out how to pre-program the formatting in excel, but it's not working either.

I'm exporting my Dataset to an excel file, and I want to make sure I keep any file errors under control. One in particular that I'm concerned about is accessing a file that's already open. A general IOException occurs that says:
"The process cannot access the file 'C:Reports eport300.csv' because it is being used by another process."
Here is the line in which the error will occur:
Dim output As New IO.StreamWriter(path, False, UnicodeEncoding.Default)
I guess I could just throw a try catch around it, but what if an IOException happens that isnt related to this particular incident? Is there a way I can check to see if the file is already open before allowing this code to run? Especially when I'm using excel.

At the end of this routine, eventhough the data was correctly saved to my Data.xlsx file, this routine also opened 15 EXCEL.EXE tasks in task manager.I thought that I had cleaned up before quitting. By the way, whether I write to 1 or 5 or 10 cells in Data.xlsx, 15 EXCEL.EXE tasks would be opened regardless. Is there a way to (easily and) completely close all EXCEL.EXE in task manager before leaving my application?

I need some code which checks if excel is open or not, if excel is not open then opens it (that code is fine)
else try to write some content/cellvalues to the already opened excel, basically I am creating windows application, which has been scheduled to run numbers of time in a day, when ever application executed, the application has something to write to the excel. one more thing is i don't want excel to save and close every time i execute the application, Its like transparent processing of EXCEL writing, a file is already opened, just write some content, and after writing it exit the application without either closing or saving the excel

My program opens 4 excel spreadsheets updating info. I update one at a time and then close it before opening the next one.I want to add code to my program to test if the file is already open, before trying to open it. Occasionally someone will have one of the files opened and it causes a crash. If I test to ensure it is not open, then I can avoid this.

I'm doing a small tool that basically wipes the document properties of each .*doc file in a specified folder. The code is working, however, if the document is already opened, I'm presented with a text box asking if I want to open a read only copy etc. I want the code to abort if that happens and rather write it down in a log file or something. And just move on to the next file. How can I do this? I'm talking about editing thousands of documents.
This is the code I have so far:

Imports Word = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word
Imports System.IO

I am working in vb2008. How to store Class/Structure instance data into a database as single objects.
SomeClass
.name
.address
.age
.etc
Say I have a hundred instances of "SomeClass" stored with data. Is there a way that I can store each of my hundred instances as a hundred objects to a hundred Access database records. I am trying to avoid having to mirror my class structure into a datatable and treat each instance as a single object which can be stored into a single database column name.

I have an asp:table which I want to exported to excel. One of my fields are alpha numeric and when exported to excel the leading 0s are stripped off. After going through this thread: Validation (CSS 2.0): 'mso-number-format' is not a known CSS property name I would like to use the css method "mso-number-format:@;.But the css is not exported to excel. I just tried to test it with simpler css things like bold font etc but its not getting carried over. I can see that if I surround my asp:Label with tags this change gets carried over to the excel but not the css bold . Other solutions in other thread does not work for me as ="00111" shows up as desired in excel but in the web form it shows up as ="00111" which is not what i want.
