View 2 RepliesI want to create a user defined data structure, which will be a 2 dimensional array such that each individual square of this 2-dimensional array will also store the score and the grades. ( Iam using VB.NET) More details:
for example: There is an 2 dimensional array with 3 columns and 2 rows, I want to fill each of the
(0,0);(0,1);(0,2) with their own score (Integer type) and grades (String Type).
And this is same for the rest of the squares i.e. (1,0);(1,1);(1,2) and (2,0);(2,1);(2,2)
After creating such custom data structure: "CustomArray", I should be able to create the instance of this custom data structure (which will be a class) and code something like this:
Dim objCustomArray as CustomArray
objCustomArray = New CustomArray
for i as Integer =0 to 3

View 1 RepliesI am working on a project that organizes the structure and hierarchy of departments. I want to view and display the whole structure of the organization visually, but I am stuck. I wanted to know what is the best way to do it in ASP.net 3.5; my goal is to achieve something like this by code and each node is linkable and can have CSS.
View 2 RepliesI have 2 tables that are related. Each app can relate to many apps. ie, office can be related to word, excel.[code]I would like to do the following query. I use vb.net but c# is ok.Query is to return all the apps that are not related to (1), so the result should be (4, quake) .
View 3 Replies(using VB.Net 2008) I have been using the Settings feature of vb.net to store user/application settings of my program. For small stuff it's great, but quickly starts to feel limited as the data gets more complex. Now I need to group certain settings together and organize them in a hierarchical (or relational) fashion. But from looking at the Settings tab inside of .Net, everything appears to be stored completely flat. So what's the best option for me? Some ideas I have are:
1. Use a small local database (such as an .mdb or .sdf) to store user settings. I think this could become a pain if I ever needed to update/create more settings while avoiding losing previous user data - not very flexible to change.
2. Use datasets and convert the tables to XML files.
I'm trying to find an easy to create a hierarchical directory structure that I can put in a TreeView, with two caveats:
1) The file list is from a file
2) The paths are un *nix format (e.g. /dir/dir/file rather than c:dirdirfile)
I found this ([URL]) which would do what I want...if not for the two caveats above. I can go through the process of tokenizing the paths and start creating linked lists of objects for a directory structure, but before I do that I'd like to find out if anything else is available...
I'm looking for such control in order to represent a hierarchical list that I can sort separately each set of master (parents) and his details.url...I think that such a control does not provided in .NET..Do you know for a good 3rd-party for such purpose?

I've got a normal Telerik hierarchical grid with a child detail table. However when the items get bound in the master table there is an extra row between each item. It has a cell with the class "rgExpandCol". I suppose this has to do with the expand icon? I have run out of ideas...
Has anyone out there experienced this before?
I ham developing a Silverlight RIA solution that needs to return a hierarchical model from the server which is declared as below.
Imports System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations
Imports System.Collections.Generic
Imports System.Runtime.Serialization

if it matters which of the repeated tables you drag onto forms? I know there's a parent-child relationship between orders and details, which is why details appears "under" orders, but details also appears in other places. What's the difference between its different appearances below?
View 4 RepliesHow to display a hierarchical file structure with checkboxes for each file and directory. The end result should be something like:
+[] ROOT+[] dir1[]file 1[]file 2+[] dir2[]file 3[]file 4
How I might do something like this? The intention is to take in a full list of files and be able to pair it down to a custom list.

I've designed my own encryption application in VB 2008 that has a free tools section where users can choose a particular wizard to use from the drop down. The javascript wizards display the code required to put in their own sites. I already created wizards that users can well, use.I see people have their own "contact form wizards" on their websites all the time. Where users can use the wizard and get the displayed code to copy and paste on their sites. But trying to locate source codes to these things is very aggravating on the web.So what I want to do is create my own "form wizard" like out of javascript, that allows the user to put in some information then get the displayed code to put in their own websites. I'm not looking for the generator such as the online form generators. But the javascript source code(s) for the generator itself. Then I could simply put a form generator inside of my VB-app, that will allow the user to use the wizard, then get the html code to paste in their own sites. Preferably not the PHP one because the php backend is very difficult to put in a VB app.I know that it can be done. For example copying a web pages source code then putting it inside a string, then calling that string from a button click that will open the javascript page in the webbrowser inside the VB app.

View 2 RepliesI have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.
