I am unsure about how to go at this, what I want is to create an application that can connect to others using that application. Things such as if I change something on the forum it will be changed on someone else who is looking at the forum, granted it would be a specific person who i am connecting with,
We have a VB.Net application which works fine in our tests in different Windows XP SP3 machines. However there is one machine in which is displaying this error:
Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts
Using the mysql command, we can successfully connect to the database. We already checked for any other application or firewall that could be blocking the connection but it seems fine. We also reinstalled the system (no errors during the installation) but the MySQL error message doesn't change.
The system settings are exactly the same as in the other computers. We are using "localhost" as server in the connection string. The "hosts" file has its default values (nothing strange in there).
I created two programs (Application) now i want connect Application (Application1) with other Application (Application2) For example: i have button in Application1 and Application2 have label text i want when i click on the button (in Application1) the label text (in Application2) will change,Is that possible?
how to create forms and connect them to a database etc. When you see some applications for using databases you dont just get the form in the middle of the screen you get a sort of form inside a surrounding platform. A bit like running Access DB inside the runtime environment. How do I do this in VB Express?
I want to develop a vb.net application whose purpose is to send certain data from the user machine to my website(server) through internet whenever he runs that application on his machine. That means application should be able to open a web browser connect to my site whose link will be inside application and connect to the server is this possible?
I'm trying to create a program that will disconnect/connect you from the internet.Example:When I press F10, I get disconnected from the internet. When I press F11 It connects me to the internet.
I am very familiar with VBA and have been using access and excel to create applications that connect using ADO and/or linked tables.I'm looking to start developing simple Windows applications for my company using Visual Basic, that will connect to Oracle and SQL Server Databases using ADO. What do I need to accomplish this? If I purchase Visual Studio 2008 Pro, will it come with VB? And do I need anything in addition to this in order to connect to SQL or Oracle databases using ADO method?
I've installed the trial version of IBM Informix Dynamic Server 11.50 on my development laptop, for use with an ASP.NET 2.0 app I'm writing. I have created a couple databases and filled them with sample data but I cannot connect. This is the relevant section of code:
Dim facStr As String = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("fact").ConnectionString conn.ConnectionString = facStr
I have a vb.net application and i need to connect it to a web server to upload pictures. It works locally but i cannot try it on the web server as i don't know hot to connect. Does anyone know about any website where i can learn to do that?
I am not sure what I am doing wrong I can connect to my database on my personal computer yet I am unable to have someone else use it without getting an error. system.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'MySql.Data, This works on my PC so I am not sure what I am not including in the project when I compile or what?
Ive spent AGES trying to get my application to connect to a SQL database finaly it works but now i have no idea to view specific records or add records ANY help would be brilliant
Basically, we have three databases to grab data from. One is a SQL Server database, one is an Access database (which is particularly annoying to connect to because we have to map a network drive and such), and the final one will be an Oracle database when IT finally gives us rights.I'm thinking about creating a helper function that makes querying any one of these databases as easy as possible. I want to create a two-dimensional array
Dim myEasyResultArray(10,10) as String myEasyResultArray = DatabaseHelper("Access", "SELECT * FROM Employee")
Is this a good design decision? Also, how can I have the array be the right size? Can I just do this?
Dim myEasyResultArray = DatabaseHelper("Access", "SELECT * FROM Employee")
Should this be a module or a class? I don't really need to share variables?
I'm working on an application in VB.NET that has to connect to a MySQL database and FTP. How secure is it if I used it in an application that I gave to other people. E.g. if I was to let other people use this application would they be able to find out the MySQL and FTP connection details through intercepting packets or something like that? If that's the case how can I work round this? Also, part of my application is an uploader for users to upload files, is FTP secure for that or are there better alternatives ways in doing that? My server is a Windows Server 08 if that makes any difference.
Scenario: I want to develop an application. The application should be able to connect to my remote server and download data to the local disk , while downloading it should check for new files and only download the new ones simultaneously creating the required(new) folders. What am i doing?: The app first checks for internet connection , if available pings the server to check if the server is active. Then it has to download the new files.
Problem: I have no idea how to compare the files in the server with the ones in the local disk. How to download only the new files from the server to the local disk? What am thinking?: If i can create the exact folder structure(hierarchy) in the local disk as it is in the server...than i can download the new files accordingly to folders by maintaining some index file in both server and local disk.
My objective is to connect my application to a database for the first time. I've never done this before so it's essentially a learning exercise. Within visual studio i've followed the "Connect to database" in the Tools tab and followed the connection wizard. My understanding is i need to connect to my local sql server (this may be incorrect) and i cant find it. I'm not sure how to even get started, what do i need to download in order to create a database on my laptop?

What is my question? Well I believe its not a really hard one for those who know Basic.
Im trying to create a LogBook for an online server. What is the purpose of it, its simple. Right now we are doing it in a forum each one posting in a Log Thread, which game server they did the activity on, date, and time spent.
I have created the program so far, and what i would like to know, is if it would be possible that in the Texboxes i have, once you click submit, you will send the info to a Databse table.
trying to connect a datagrid to some data I have stored in my application settings I'm using: system.collections.specialized.stringcollection and the scope is user. All I want to do is allow a user to add or delete values from the app settings, I've tried using a datagrid but I cant connect to the application settings.
i m currently working on application that has to monitor temperature and humidity of a particular place and constantly report the same to the user over internet. So far, I m using LPC1768 and its ethernet module collect the data, process it and send it to the router. On the other side, i have a computer which is connected to the same router and running a VB application where the data is mined and reported in a excel.
This setup works just fine. Now, i want to monitor the same data over internet. How can i do the same? Here i was able to connect to the micro-controller using the IP 192.168.1.100 port 80. I m aware that the IP is a local one and to access the micro controller from Internet there is another way.I have a IP based webcam which enables us to monitor from internet. How should i make micro-controller data be accessible from internet.(similar to IP Camera).
I've been trying to connect a MS database to a V.B. form unsucessfully.Actually when i try to do that, i can't connect the tables information to the form or store the information i enter in the form in the MS table.I was doing an exercise here, and to store the information in the table called readers, i typed:
I've been Searching the Net for hours now, and i can't really seem to find anything clear and straight to the point.
I need to create a Server/Client application using VB.net 2008, it's actually my first time to have a database on another computer. So I first searched the internet for the things i need to make this software.
