The application sits on a virtual environment and when I remote in and run the application, it connects to the remote database. However, when I remote in with a service account and double click the same .exe, it tries to connect to the local host database and ignores the app.config. The code is the same, only the login name I use is different. The login I use is part of the local admin group. Any ideas?

I'm building a multi language application, but in the application, there will be some data that will be retrieved from the db. In the db I have two tables (Access Groups, Teams) the two tables are related, there are some groups, that have teams, example (sellers can belong to team 1, team 2, team 3...). The data that will change it's the names for the access groups and the names for the teams. The only way that I can think to do this, is to have the different values for all the languages in the code, or some auxiliar file, and when loading the application I'll truncate the two tables and fill them with the current language values. By the way those values never change...

I'm working on an application in VB.NET that has to connect to a MySQL database and FTP. How secure is it if I used it in an application that I gave to other people. E.g. if I was to let other people use this application would they be able to find out the MySQL and FTP connection details through intercepting packets or something like that? If that's the case how can I work round this? Also, part of my application is an uploader for users to upload files, is FTP secure for that or are there better alternatives ways in doing that? My server is a Windows Server 08 if that makes any difference.

My objective is to connect my application to a database for the first time. I've never done this before so it's essentially a learning exercise. Within visual studio i've followed the "Connect to database" in the Tools tab and followed the connection wizard. My understanding is i need to connect to my local sql server (this may be incorrect) and i cant find it. I'm not sure how to even get started, what do i need to download in order to create a database on my laptop?

I have a vb.net application that will not connect to an oracle database on the PC that I publish the app too. It works fine under my pc both in design and when I publish it to myself. But it will not connect under the pc I publish it too. I do have oracle installed on the pc and have the connection setup exactly as I have on my own pc. I am sure it is a file path issue, or at least I believe it to be that.

I have the same problem as in this thread [URL].
I am connecting to a SQL database on a hosted server and everything is ok but if I publish the application then it fails to connect which is a bummer because then I can't debug it!
I have tried turning off windows firewall and that doesn't make any difference.

I added an Access database to my project and properties are: Build Action: Content Copy to Output Directory:Copy Always Full Path = directory where program code is.Within the program, I use the Application.StartUp property to connect to the database. My problem is that the program opens with the database in the root directory, but all changes are only made to the database in the bin/Debug folder. So the next time I run the program (through Visual Studio), it again opens up the database that didn't have the change smade to it.
I believe I want the database in the bin/debug folder because that's where the application is.I'm not an ADO.net maven. Is there anyone who can explain what i'm doing wrong and how I could correct it. If I run the program directly from the bin/debug folder, it works correctly.

I am using VS2008 and SQLite. I have created a database and several tables and am attempting to populate the tables with data from arrays.
The following code (example) works fine but stops after it inserts 30 to 50 records. I am running the VB code in debug mode and when it stops, I press pause to see where it is. It stops on "SQLcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" and when I press continue (F5) it will insert another 30 to 50 records.
I do not get an error message. Is this a timeout issue? How do I keep the loop running to the end of the array?
Following is example code.
Dim
SQLconnect As New SQLite.SQLiteConnection()
Dim SQLcommand As SQLiteCommand
CODE:.....................

We are presently developing an application, let's call it APP1, which uses a SQL Database which have about 800 stored procedures, 600 tables, etc. APP1 was originally created in order to replace another application, APP0, from which we do not have source code but only SQL tables, Stored Procedures, views, etc. Previous programers of APP1 used some DB objects from this same database and added some other objects specific to APP1 because it becomes bigger than APP0. And we do not need APP0 anymore as APP1 does all what we want, and more.
So, now, we are thinking about a way to find out which objects are used by APP1 in order to remove objects which are ONLY used by APP0.What is the best approach to discover all objects used by APP1 without having to open every single class and form?
Once we will have a complete list of these objects, it will be easy to use a program we bought which detects all dependencies for all SQL Objects specified directly from SQL and remove objects which do not return from any dependencies. Any ideas of how I could get this list without having to go through all our program that have many, many, many classes and forms?
Note : I know, in a perfect world, all calls to PSs and tables should be in a DAL but in the case of the application we're presently working on ... this is not our case! Yippy! (sarcastic yippy) ;)
Note 2 : This application is not using any ORM. So all queries are directly using SqlCommand. So any call to any DB objects are in string format.

I am very familiar with VBA and have been using access and excel to create applications that connect using ADO and/or linked tables.I'm looking to start developing simple Windows applications for my company using Visual Basic, that will connect to Oracle and SQL Server Databases using ADO. What do I need to accomplish this? If I purchase Visual Studio 2008 Pro, will it come with VB? And do I need anything in addition to this in order to connect to SQL or Oracle databases using ADO method?

We have a VB.Net application which works fine in our tests in different Windows XP SP3 machines. However there is one machine in which is displaying this error:
Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts
Using the mysql command, we can successfully connect to the database. We already checked for any other application or firewall that could be blocking the connection but it seems fine. We also reinstalled the system (no errors during the installation) but the MySQL error message doesn't change.
The system settings are exactly the same as in the other computers. We are using "localhost" as server in the connection string. The "hosts" file has its default values (nothing strange in there).

I have done alot of work over the years designing MS Access DB's, but its getting to be problematic with end users needing to have access installed to use them. also if the MDB files have OLE's the file can get very large. I tryed using FoxPro years back and it sort of worked as long as we didnt use OLE's but I'm behind the times with that also. I'm currently not sure where to start, I have decided on a beginner style Dtabase project but need to know some things and then will need some help. Heres my requirements.A single Form, with multiple textboxes, about 6. i will list the names and such in a moment, it would be nice to have search, and images, some buttons too. I basically want to use the layout I use right now in Access but I want to code it from scratch.
Now I need to know what is the better way of going about this, Do I use a MDB Access file and go ahead and setup a table with all my fields, or Do I need to use SQL? Just a note I have never used SQL. Now I need to be able to save my SQL/MDB file for backup purposes. One of the problems with this DB is that while a user is keying in parts, if they run into a new manufacturer, they have to close the Data Entry form, open the manufacturer table and add them manuall then return to the data entry form. its slow and can cause issues . When I messed with VB DB's before I never could get the crystal reports thing to work at all. now I would like to add a textbox/field for picture, it will only host the image location eg. c:DBimages image01. jpg..You Know Your Addicted To Computers When - Your main computer is a 7 terabyte, Core2Quad 3 Ghz +, with 4 or more gigs ram, over 200 programs installed, and you would rather sit with it programming than go to the movies!I've got 13 PC's in the House and 7 are in my bedroom and my main one exceeds this set of stats.
