Im writing a program (has been a little while) which will gather files off my computer and make a new partition the right size to store them.I would like this to be automated since it would help if I use it on friends machines.is there a way for me to create a partition from using vb.net and api's etc rather than having to downloading partition manager each time.

I am working on some USB (flash drive) software which i want to make portable and always accessible on USB i know .net is not good for this because much users don't have framework installed but users who use this software have it installed and i just love VB.net :)
So what i want to do is to create a hidden partition on this USB device where software will store some info and itself. The software and data it stores is 6MB so i would also like to know the suggestions from you what size of this hidden partition can and i should make.
But:
how do i read from hidden partition through .net?
(i did never confront with this till now...) how i make hidden partition through .net?
I want this because users i working this for usually format their drives and that way they delete the software too, so hidden folder and encrypting doesn't help me in this.

I am not the original author of this software project and the code is poorly documented. I am mainly a Java/C++ developer.The program displays the tree structure and allows files and folder to be selected. The program is getting errors with FileSystemTreeView when trying to return nodes on a system with a reserved partition.Here is what is happening: tree.SelectedNode = tree.Nodes(0) 'returns error with system reserved partition.calling, GetDriveList() will properly return all the drive letters - and not throw an error. Only when trying to get a tree.Node() or tree.load() is the error occurring.

The web page I am trying to download is a intranet site. I am periodically downloading the web page for archiving purpose for future reference. The web page will list the current active jobs/projects we work. We process 100's of jobs everyday. The list item will have the Project id, Project name, Project deadline, etc.The download works fine. the web page is downloaded locally. The problem is the date/time format is changed to some other format. If I view the web page in browser, the deadline of one of the project shows as "7/15 03:00".
However, the downloaded webpage shows the deadline of that project as "Wed Jul 14 16:30:00 CDT 2010". I believe it shows in CDT timezone. Also, it shows couple of other timezone too. I think the project might be created from those countries. I am in India timezone.
I've been working on an application recently, and have encountered a lot of setbacks. I'm considering switching the project to C#, but that would take a lot of time. Here's what I need to accomplish, but keep running into issues.
Here's what I'm trying to do: Automated, one-click downloading, with a status bar and estimated time remaining, etc. (~20mb downloads.) Unzipping/Extraction of files. So far, I haven't been able to smoothly achieve those with VB.Net (4.0) Has anyone? Or should I just switch to C#?

Any Way to be able to access a file externally that is located on an internal network by a simple link. I need a way to generate links to files to dynamically in code. So say for instance I'm writing an outlook add in that strips the attachments from messages if they meet a certain size criteria. then upload the file to a server and post a temporary link to the file that can be accessed any where. I prefer to store the file on an ftp server but for security issues I can't do it that route. is there a way to do this in windows server.

I have to deal with several third party libraries and/of COM servers that are not always that stable and can produce severe crashes sometimes. This may (of course) not affect the task manager
Problem with using processes is how to communicate with them? The process must f.e. give a status back of what it's doing every x seconds.
I was thinking of using TCP over a separate port per process, but is this the best way of doing this?

I want to allow my user to add certain small pictures into a form which has a bigger pictures. My idea is to simply allow the user to move small pictureboxes that is set on the top of the form to wherever she wants it to be. My problem is that she may want more than one instance of the same picturebox. I am wondering if I can create a picturebox (complete with the picture) during run time?

View 2 RepliesI am trying to create a ListView control at run-time and populate it with data from a SQL Query, I can create and execute the SQL query returning my desired data, I can create the listview control, but I can not get the list view to Populate data from the ListviewGroup I am creating from the SQL query. This will create a ListView Box and populate the data in a very odd way, every row will have 5 columns with the same data repeated in each column. I have verified (using the commented out msgbox statements you see) that the ItemGroupSQL variable is being populated correctly. but Listview1.items.addrange(itemgroupSQL.items()) does no add the data to the listview correctly

My problem is this, when I did this it creates the connection string in design time also, but the connection varies depending on where the software is installed after the development.My question, is there anyway to set up the bound controls on my forms and everything with the typed dataset created in design time on the connection created in design time... then when the application is run, can it change the connection string at run time to get it connecting to and creating the dataset from the the correct sql database?

I've got a calendar app where we're loading up a DataTable from one method, then merging the results with another method - both methods return the same type of data and the same columns. One of the columns in the results is "start_time", which has a date and time. What I want to do is sort the entire, merged, DataTable by the time in the "start_time" column, disregarding the date completely. I've gotten this far, but can't see how to get it done:

at the moment i have a groupbox on a form with 3 radio buttons.
what i would like to happen is when a radio button is selected for it to display a panel with a few controls on it.
i am looking to know what is the best way to code this, i have read a few guides on creating objects at runtime, but none of which i have looked at have any information on adding objects to the likes of a panel.
i am thinking that their are probbably 2 way to attempt this.
my logical thinking tells me i should either
1) Create a class will contain the controls and subs that i need and then try to load the class when it is needed.
2)create a control array then try and work with it that way.
Below code creates a set of comboboxes which are bound to the data table. This works almost fine with one exception. Whenever i change selection in one of these comboboxes, any other combo changes it's selection too.[code]...
