Create Service That Will Create Timers At Run Time?
Nov 12, 2009
I just want to create an service which will on start read my XML file .It gets the number of parameters connected to PC. I just want to know that is it possible to create the timers at run time in my service and the timers should start at the same time but will having different time span to exicute means one timer will start after every one minute while another after 2 or 3 or whatever i set.
When I run my app at first its keeps time accurately for the first minute or so there after it starts loosing seconds, and by the end of the day its minutes behind.I've created a class called ServerTimeTimer that has a timers.timer object that elapses every second and adds a second to a dateTime variable, and a property to retrieve the date time.[code]
I thought that creating a simple system service under VB .NET would be a piece of cake. Boy, was I wrong. First, I find general postings through Google that say you should use the Windows.Forms.Timer. Then, I found conflicting information that says you have to derive the timer from a timer class through code to make it work. Then, people are reporting all sorts of trouble using the various types of threads available. I can't debug threads using the VS 2010 Just-in-Time debugger for obvious reasons (although, I don't know if there is an alternate method to doing this). My project is an application launcher (similar to cron) that will fire off periodically within a certain amount of seconds. I am trying to use the Process.Start() method. I have a Beep() function as the first instruction, and the Process.Start, along with a Process.WaitForExit method to make it block as the last instruction. I had my code doing this through timers, but now I am starting to use threads. No difference in execution. The over-ridden OnStart method does kick off (as I am certain through debugging), but nothing ever happens when starting the service in production, as if it were ignoring all my code. Putting loops and logic in the OnStart method yields a process that won't start. I know it is a threading issue, but I also know it must be mandatory to use threads. I am now dumbfounded as to how to make this work. I am curious to know the solution.
In addition to the service class, I have a ServiceInstaller and ProcessInstaller implemented that I copied verbatim from MSDN.Here is some of the code I am trying to work with. Note that this simply reflects the current state of my code in trying to implement the logic within a thread instead of a timer (which to me would be optimal):[code]
I'm using VS 2005 and Im trying to create a Windows Service that monitors our Sharepoint Search Service.Problem is, I've never written a Windows Service application. My guess is that I need to loop thru all the services, find the "Sharepoint Search Service", and and then right the code once I've identified it. I have no idea what object I need to loop thru. I tried using the System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase object but that doesn't fly.
I have some clients calling my asmx service and I figure out to change my asmx to a Wcf service. How can my asmx clients call to my Wcf service without modify the client application?Maybe just a few changes in the config file...I can't expect than they compile their applications.
Is there a any code to create the windows service in VB.net 2005 that you can pass on. I am actually trying to make a Windows service which will query SQL as well as Oracle database using procedures. This service will keep running until it is manually shutdown. This is my first windows Service I am writing in VB.net.
I have tried to create windows service using SHDocVw.dll in vb.net, but it generates error The error is could not load SHDocVw.dll into windows service. How to fix this issue?
I have tried to create windows service using SHDocVw.dll in vb.net, but it generates error The error is could not load SHDocVw.dll into windows service.
[code]And this is the code, coming from the web service's vb page, where I'm getting the error:[code]MusicDataTable comes from a dataset called music. The GetMusic() works because I'm not passing it anything. I'm not sure why insertSong and deleteSong aren't working.
So I get thrown an exception right when I try to create a new instance of my Web Service that says:
"Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'KBBVehicleService.IVehicleInformationService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element."
This is a web service that will connect to Kelley Blue Book. I know I need a new endpoint entry in my Web.Config, but what does this look like? The one I added looks like this: <endpoint address="http://localhost:3300/KBB.svc" binding="basicHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="BasicHttpBinding_Default" contract="Services.Client.IVehicleInformationService"/> But it doesn't work. Still throws the same exception at the same place.
Now that I've got this service that runs really great on my 32-bit development machine when I use InstallUtil.exe to install it, I'm ready to take it to the next level and generate something that I can use to install it on my 64-bit production server. I've never done this before, so I'm looking for detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to "publish" this Windows Service that I've written, or make it such that I can take some kind of file (or set of files) and install my service on another machine. I'm looking for a way to do this using Visual Studio 2010. I think the processes are different than in previous versions of Visual Studio.
I'm trying to create a web service that will query active directory. Here's my code. The error happens on com.Execute() line. I've got an old vb6 script with same code that works perfectly.
<WebMethod()> _ Public Function Find(ByVal compname As String) As String Dim strDomainSearch As String = "OU=XXXX,OU=XXXX,DC=XXXX,DC=XXXX,DC=XXXX,DC=XXXX"
i create a class library or use already created class library in my windows service project. I have 1 dll file then how can i use that file in my project.?Logic is my Greatest Asset !
I created a new Windows Service and a stand alone set up program for it. To the solution I added a set up program project and included both programs as outlined in [url]... However, when I run the Setup program, I do not see the my new service in the services window after the set up program completes. Is there additional work that needs to be done to have the program install the windows service correctly or do I need to include the [url]... program and a batch file to get it installed?
I am trying to create a windows service using vb.net to read sql table every 3 hours and get all the new data created within the past 3 hours. I know how to create a windows service, but the challenge is how to get the newest data created within the past 3 hours from the database.
I'm experiencing a weird problem. I need to create a Windows service that listens to a port for data. The data is comma separated, so I need to split it up and just write a few of the separated values to a file. This is a brief summary of my code:-
Do While True
tcpClient = tcpListener.AcceptTcpClient() networkStream = tcpClient.GetStream() Dim bytes(tcpClient.ReceiveBufferSize) As Byte
[code]....
Now the above code works fine. But suppose I just want to write only (2) to file i.e 2 of the comma separated values, problems arise. This is what happens:-
If I include both lines (1) and (2), output file = lines (1) and (2) If I include only line (1) and comment out (2), output file = line (1) If I include only line (2) and comment out (1), output file = BLANK ???
I'm wanting to develop what I perceive to be a pretty simple application. I want something that runs in the system tray that tests for the presence of a particular file on a network drive. If the file does not exist, the icon in the system tray is a green circle (like a traffic light). If the file DOES exist, then the system tray icon is a yellow circle (caution), until the user clicks it (the yellow system tray icon), and a record is written to another file, then the system tray icon changes to a red (stop) circle until that first file we tested for is gone.I'd also like to create "balloon messages" to go with the changes in the system tray icon.
I have a web service running that reliably returns a dataset and allows me to provide a list now drop down list box of records returned.I would like to capture the users selection from the DDL and call another web service to return detailed information regarding the selection. Hence a WHERE stmt in the query of the web service. I am of course worried about SQL injection. But I would ike to at least get the SQL stmt working. The selection is a string field type, and looks like this,[code]Everything works for other web services if I remove the query with the WHERE clause.
I am creating a windows service to save current username and logon time in a CSV file. But when I install the service, the file is just created, not details are written to it, and that file is set to read-only mode. what is the problem in my code?
