I am trying to create a windows service using vb.net to read sql table every 3 hours and get all the new data created within the past 3 hours. I know how to create a windows service, but the challenge is how to get the newest data created within the past 3 hours from the database.

Problem is when i declare cmd = New SqlCommand(l_sSQL) the code stop executing but the service will still be running. I can insert into the other table using the service but i cant read from the other table.

I developed a windows service project using vb.net and windows service is installed with logon account as admin's user name and password. Target of windows service is to read the pst file path location from windows registry for currently logged user by accessing the following registry key
"HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWindows Messaging SubsystemProfilesOutlook52a407cf2e436a4d8fe252d1d257465501f6700".
The problem is , windows service can able to read the admin pst file path location if admin is logged in windows. When other user logged in windows, service is not able to read currently logged user's pst file path location from registry because of windows service is configured with admin user name and password. so it always reads admin's pst file location.
What does a Windows service do? And how to create one?

My guess is that I need to loop thru all the services, find the "Sharepoint Search Service", and and then right the code once I've identified it. I have no idea what object I need to loop thru. I tried using the System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase object but that doesn't fly.

I've never done this before, so I'm looking for detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to "publish" this Windows Service that I've written, or make it such that I can take some kind of file (or set of files) and install my service on another machine. I'm experiencing a weird problem. I need to create a Windows service that listens to a port for data. The data is comma separated, so I need to split it up and just write a few of the separated values to a file. This is a brief summary of my code:-

Now the above code works fine. But suppose I just want to write only (2) to file i.e 2 of the comma separated values, problems arise. This is what happens:-
If I include both lines (1) and (2), output file = lines (1) and (2)
If I include only line (1) and comment out (2), output file = line (1)
If I include only line (2) and comment out (1), output file = BLANK ???

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

View 3 RepliesI have a simple Windows Service that reads from an Excel spreadsheet and imports the records into a SQL Server 2000 database table. Before it loads it checks if the file has been successfully imported before (using filename) and whether any of the records in the file have been imported before (using primary key). If these checks are ok I load the records into a datatable and then update the datatable to the database.
However, I need to do this in a transaction as I want to ignore the whole file if there is an error. The file goes to a discarded folder and the user gets an email with why the import failed. (This is likely to be because the store the record is for is not yet added to the database and the referential intergrity of the db fails). If there is no transaction the records before the failure record are imported. When the file is imported again (the store has been added to store table) the file is then rejected because duplicate records are already in the db.

The table's rows and collumns are filled dynamically based on a selection in a drop down list. Each row in that table would have 2 textboxes, 1 combobox, 2 checkboxes, and 1 button.
I am aware of DataGridView and TableLayoutPanel -DataGridView - I do not like the appearance so I don't want to use it...Also it is not very flexible with checkboxes and buttons

Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?

Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?
