Created The Database And Bound The Fields To A Form?

I am an experienced programmer but am new to VB. To start, I am trying to create a simple database program. (My ultimate goal is writing a comprehensive database program in 6-8 months)I have created the database and bound the fields to a form.
But what I want to be able to do is add a field to the database and then also bind that new field to a textbox on the form.The new field appears on the list in the Server Explorer window (on my left) but not in the data sources window (on my right.) The data sources windows has a "refresh" option but that does not help.When I manually add a textbox and try going to DataBindings in the property window the new database field is not listed.

experience on how to create an engine using C# (VB.NET is okay too) that is generic enough to handle most cases of MS Word text fields I need to fill with data I'm getting from a database? In short, I'm about to embark on this little Office automation excursion and I'm hoping a little bit of feedback here.

I've got MONEY datatypes in a SQL database.I bind these to TEXTBOXES in code.These fields show up like 104.0000 or 0.1300.Is there a standard way to format these so that only two decimal places appear?

I have a problem trying to copy 3 fields on a form to a database. The reason I cannot seem to do it is that the last field asks how many copies you want to save in a combo box. So lets say the user selects 3 I need to be able to copy three sets of the same data to the database.

I have finished my database using Dreamweaver ASP VBScript and Access, the only thing left is to create the searching system. My search form works fine when posting just one filed. The results page Recordset goes as follows.

I need 7 different fields on my search form, this what I did but it doesn't work.
Parameters:
Name: MMColParam

"Price" is a special one because this is a list menu with different amounts, like 50.000, 70.000, 90.000, and so one. The idea is to make this list menu post to the result page, only to display records under or equal to the given value. less or equal > than 50.000 or 70.000, etc.

I am having issues understanding why it is that a text box that has been bound to a dataset correctly updates that dataset when the text in the box is manually changed i.e. by changing it using the keyboard but the dataset does not recognise the change when I change it in code.Am I missing something obvious? The text is changed in code when the user clicks on a command button that copies the text from another textbox on the form to this textbox.

As i mentioned, manually it works fine but when I use the comman button to change the text it does not recognise that any changes have occured.

I'm trying to create a function-scripter like program. There is a button, a treeview, and 2 textbox's. TextBox1 is where you enter the name you want to give you're function, and TextBox2 is where you input the actual script of the function you are creating. When you press the button, it creates a Treenode in the treeview with the name of what the user put in Textbox1. how do I bind whatever was in Textbox2 to THAT Treenode?

I'm trying to create a table in Word using data from a table in Access. There are four fields in the access table that I need. 3 fields are text which I can populate the Word without any issues. However the fourth field is a memo with >255 characters.I'm struggling to come up with the proper code to allow me to populate the Word field with the memo data that has more than 255 characters. I am trying to create a form which will be fed by an underlying database to create multiple form fields for each entry in an underlying database table. This is for a program to monitor patients under anesthesia, and prior to surgery, the doctor will choose which monitors they will be using. Then, on the actual monitor screen which will pop up every X minutes, there will be a text box and a check box for each chosen monitor. I am relatively new to VB, so I have tried to illustrate what I am needing but using the logic that I know from my previous life in PHP.
I am using DevExpress's layout control to place the form fields, so that is the code in the middle of the first loop (on_load), and I know that part works, I just need to know how to name the fields and then recover those fields and commit the values to the database. (the text boxes are added to the database, the check boxes are used to determine if an entry is made for that monitor- i.e. at the end of surgery if a monitor is turned off). I know that my syntax for naming the fields is no where close to correct, and it probably would not work in PHP, but I remember doing something like this in a PHP application I built long ago. [Code]

it's just for a program registration. i would store all of the registration codes in the access database, then export it to XML, then upload it to my web host. I would then somehow connect it to my Visual Basics login form (Which I have already made). If this can't be done, having them register through the form and having all the allowed codes on the internet (So i can easily edit them)!

Also, at that point where it says "I WANT...." I want to copy the textbox fields into a new database and then delete this entry from the database, how can I do that. I am using VS 2008 and SQL.

I have a main form with datagridview containing a list of contacts:

After saving, I get the correct message ("Saved"), and the DataGridView in the first form gets updated in real time.
But... when I take look at the data (or close and reopen the forms) the data in the database (SQL server) have not changed! What happens!

I had issues in refreshing a form that is bound to different tables in a database. Various forms allow the user to change and add and update information on the form via the database. I had created a public sub in that form that the other forms could call, after saving the data, that was supposed to refresh the data on the main form. This was not working so I researched the problem. I came across this page which pertains to Form.Activated: [url]
I placed all of the table adapter fills into this event, instead of in Form_Load, and it seems to work now, when the form first loads, and when other forms update data. My question is does anyone have experience using this and what are the consequences, if any, in using this to reload/refresh the data showing on the form?

If you want a instance of an object to be created when a form loads or another class is created, you have two options:
Public class example
private IAmAObject As IAmAObject
public sub new()
[CODE]...
Or like this:
public class example
private IAmAObject as new IAmAObject
public sub new()
[CODE]...
I always use the first one. It's more type work but I think it's neater. How about you people and is there any real difference between the two?

I have a form with 3 datagridview controls that are bound to tables in a sql database. When the form loads for the first time the data is displayed correctly. If I add data to the db on another form then show the first form again the data displayed does not include the new data. If I close the app and then open it again then the new data is displayed.I cannot figure out how to manually refresh the gridview. I have tried calling the fill method of the adapter, using the refresh method of the gridview and parent control and form with still no luck. I have a ASP.net project I'm working on also and it is so easy to refresh the sqldatacontrol and the gridview and I would have though a win form would have been just as easy if not easier.

I have created an access database which i want to search with vb.net, I tried a few thing but it didnt work as desired.
Firstly the program is suppose to display items in the database base on the criteria selected by the user. what i've succefssfully done so far is I've added a datagrid 2 combobox, 1 (searchcbo) with the columns in the database and the other (searchcbo1) will autoload the items under the column selected in and a button (searchbtn) but i have no clue of the code to put in the button. i also tried the fill method but that didnt work as i wanted to. ultimately i want a combobox with the list of columns and a textbox to enter criteria and of course a search button.
The searchbtn should act as the "WHERE" sql command, e.g. SELECT EmployeeNumber, Firstname, LastName, Phone, Location....etc FROM CallLog WHERE searchcbo.text = searchcbo1.text And display the results in the datagrid.

I have a combobox that is bound to a database.After I click "New Record" to insert a new record, I want to default to the first item in the Combobox list. This will speed up user input.any ideas. I have tried most ways but this should work correct:
cmbAssetLocation.text = cmbAssetLocation.Items.Item(1)
But nothing throws an error.
