I am troubleshooting a program that normally works, and has worked in the past on the machine I am working with.I am a very novice programmer, I didn't program this myself I am just trying to get it to work.I have done as much research as I can, which has lead me to believe it is permissions problem with the CreateObject command.I have tried a fix in the .net 2.0 machine.config file, changing the processModel user to System, that didn't help.The machine does have norton on it, and norton was installed since the program stopped working. However I have tried disabling norton and running the program. A friend suggested it might be some settings on the computer that Norton changed hence disabling it not helping.Here is the error:See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.[code]... When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I am sending email via Office as per the example below.I am seeing an ActiveX exception on the CreateObject if office is already running (see below). If I close office prior to the CreateObject call, all works as planned.
http:[url].......
' Start Outlook.
' If it is already running, you'll use the same instance...
Dim olApp As Outlook.Application
Set olApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")

In my vb.net applications, I do a lot of reading/writing to excel files.This is one of the simpler bits of code I use:
Dim objApp As Object, objBook As Object, objSheet As Object
objApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
objBook = objApp.Workbooks.Open("C:maid2cleanM2CPrinters.xls")
objSheet = objBook.Worksheets.Item(1)
[code]....
It's never been fast but in the last few weeks it seems to take forever.The "createobject" line is taking 4 seconds to run. is there any way I can find out why it's slowed down?

I have a Visual Basic application using Createobject("ScriptControl") to convert a user input like 3+3 to 6. This worked perfect under Windows XP and even Windows 7 but on my new Windows 2008 Server (64 bit) it gives an error: Cannot Create ActiveX component. Should I register or refer anywhere ? Should I install anything ?
Dim SControl = CreateObject("ScriptControl")
SControl.language = "VBScript"
Totalfee = SControl.eval(TotalfeeTextBox.Text)

I have a VB6 based ActiveX dll file.
When i create a new Visual Studio 2010 web site, and i try to add a reference to that dll the following error appears:
A reference to 'dllName' could not be added. Converting the type library to a .NET assembly failed. Execution of the following process failed: C:Archivos de programaMicrosoft SDKsWindowsv7.0AinTlbImp.exe "c:mystitedllName.dll" /transform:dispret

If you delete some of these two functions the error doesn't appears. This problem is not present in Visual Studio 2008 or 2005.

We have a client who has asked us to write a GUI that is capable of connecting to an existing, running application. This specific application has quite extensive .NET and ActiveX hooks in it, but it's a third-party application and we do not have access to the source code. The client has specified VB 2008, despite the fact that the target application has perfectly good GUI creation tools itself.
I can successfully start a separate instance of the target application, but that is not what the client wants. The idea is that the user would start this application, open a specific file with it and then start the GUI which would take control.
I have searched a number of locations (including 18 pages so far of this forum) to try to find help on this sort of thing, but the success is slow coming. One code snippet enabled me to find the running process, which may help me to connect. I am also browsing CodeProject to try to wind useful information on this.

We have a VB.Net app that has several editable reports and forms in html/javascript. I'm using the standard WebBrowser control.We're accessing the content via filepath, since using localhostsharename when the machine is offline doesn't work even though the content is on the machine. The problem with that is that then it's running in the local machine zone, and you get the warning about running ActiveX controls (even if that's set to 'allow' in the options menu on IE). So I'm using Mark of the Web to act as if the content is saved from localhost. I appended it with the requisite vbCrLf to the start of the HTML page that's being dynamically written every time a link is clicked. When I open the resulting page in IE, I no longer get the ActiveX warning, and everything works. However, when I use WebBrowser.Navigate to that filepath, I still get the warning. Any idea how to get rid of that?

I am getting a run-time error within my VB app:
Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object
I have run this application under WinXP and previous Windows operating system fine, but when I installed my application on Windows Vista I get the above error at run-time.
how I could resolve this error as I believe it is not a programming error as the app works on other Windows OS's fine. Could it be something to do with registering dll's etc.

My dot net windows application (visual studio 2008, vb.net) is running fine on 32 bit windows XP. But in 64 bit windows 7 it is throwing the following error when trying to open frorms which have a reference to GCombo.dll."Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object"The application was originally on vb6. It was converted into vb.net. I build the application in x86 mode. I have registered the dll manually. But nothing worked.

come years ago I bought an activex component to read some basic smartcard data. I created a simple form application and it has worked fine ever since. However, instate of a form application I now want to create a console application for the same purpose (the forms are unrequired and it just takes too long with multiple smartcards).
But I have been working on this for days now and somehow can't seem to get my events working. When I use 1 event, everything works fine, but as soon as I add my second event I get this error:
Unhandled Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040202): E

Our VB.NET application has a .NET dll, with a registered TLB file; so that VBA in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel can call into the application. The application functions correctly except when it is called into via MSO on Vista. This functions correctly on Windows XP machines but on Windows Vista and Windows 7 machines it is returning a 429 error. A reference to the TLB file can be assigned in the VBA References dialog box, on Vista.It doesn't appear to be a problem in our application as a simple Test libary does the same thing. Microsoft Applications have been 'Run As' Adminstrator, and Vista UAC is turned off, but I am thinking there is perhaps a security issue?

I have been working on an activeX control which works on serial port communication. Now I have completed the project and created its setup.exe using Visual studio 6 -> Tools -> Package and Deployment Wizard. Then I installed the control in another PC and in a new project included the control using project -> components. But when I click on the control in the toolbox and then include on the form it gives the following error : delete current link ? and on clicking OK, nothing happens. I tried searching a lot on google but didnt find anything. Another problem is that I have created a string array as a global array which can be accessed by all the methods.I am able to include the same activex control in my own pc when I have created the project. Here it works fine, I am able to access all the methods that I coded in the control, but the String array mentioned above can be accessed in other project. I tried writing Public before the array declaration but it give me the compile error : "Constants. fixed length strings, arrays, user defined types and Declare statements not allowed as Public members of object module." [code]

I have a dll ( vb6 ) containing a public class with a public Type ( named Test ) and finally a public function that wants a variable passed by ref of Test type. Obiouvsly, if I reference that dll in a new project ( vb6 ) I can see the public function and the Test type I must use...the problem comes when I must call that dll creating it at runtime without any reference, using in example CreateObject. Can I reference in some way the type Test inside the dll by having created it at runtime? If I declare a type IDENTICAL to the Test type in a public class in my new project, VB issues a TypeMismatch error even if both data type are the designed the same say, have the same name and so on! how it comes?

Im a newb so if I word this a little funny im sorry. I am using VB.net 2005 developer edition and Im trying to import a layout of a conveyor belt system onto a screen. We will be using the screen to show status on motor overloads and devices attached to the conveyor. For example here is a jpeg of one of the screens I would like to make:
We will have to change the color of the symbols when the are active or non active. Also, we want to have the ability to scroll over the symbols and have a message box pop up and tell the status. I am just trying to figure out the most logical way of doing this. I can change the file format of the drawing to Jpeg or bitmap or even PDF.
