1. With the library, should I use a database or how would I create a file holding Title, Artiste, Filepath to MP3 file.
2. With the player, is there a built in mp3 feature in Visual Basic Express Edition 2008?
I have created a application that I have installed on the user computer. However, I want the application to be self-updating. But I am not sure if this would really update the application.The application will download all the files from the web server, and replace the files in the directory where the program as been installed to. The user will restart the application.I am just want to be sure, because I can't replace the installed files with the updated ones. As the application will be running. So really the application cannot delete/replace itself

View 1 RepliesI'm making a WPF form that has a large map as an Image in a ScrollViewer. It also has a mini-version of the map as another image. I want to make it possible to click the mini-version of the map to scroll the big version to a certain area of the map. So I need to do the following:
1. When moving the mouse over the mini-map change the mouse cursor to a square with the appropriate size to indicate what part of the map will be shown.
2. Scroll the big map to the appropriate section when the mini-map is clicked.
I tried a mini encryption with the modulus operator but now I can't DECRYPT what I encrypt.How do I use the modulus operator to decrypt this:

Bit of a long shot but does anyone know if it is possible (I said possible, not easy ) to create a file system mini filter driver in .NET? I'm assuming not but I don't really know of any technical reason why... just that every single example on the interwebs is C++.

View 2 RepliesAnother newbie question i am afraid, I have created a game of pontoon it generates the numbers into an array and the assigns the values to the labels. this all works great.however the bit that i am stuck on is creating a player turn as each label has a name lnlP1Card1 to lblP1Card5 for player 1 and lblP2Card1 -5 for player 2 etc. I tried to create a set of if statements that checked a counter and then if the counters value matched the if statement the players turn moved to the next player. sample

View 4 RepliesI am using vb 2005 and word 2000. I use word to create a report that the user can print. When I click on the print button, I get the error "Library not registered." I am using clickonce to publish the app. This error only happens on 2 vista machines and xp works fine.

I'm attempting to create a little library to encrypt and decrypt Files with AES. There are loads of examples of how to do this on the internet so coding is not a problem. There are however a few questions regarding cryptography and AES in general.
#1 Does the IV need to be kept a secret like the key ?
#2 Can I just hash a string with SHA512 to make a key for AES ? or do I need to use PasswordDeriveBytes ?
#3 In the case of me using PasswordDeriveBytes Do I need to keep the salt a secret ?(or do I need to keep it at all)
#4 Can I generate the IV from the same password that the Key is derived from ?(if so How ?)
I have a project that will need several forms with a similar structure - a Data Grid View control, a few buttons and some textboxes. They are not similar enough to use just one form and change things programatically so I would like to create a "template" and add several copies of it into my project. My first attempts have failed miserably, ending up with lots of "conflicts" and "duplicate items".
So, how should I save a form from my existing project in such a way that I can then load in multiple copies (giving them suitably different names) without having name conflicts?
i'm working on a project right now and I need to create a graphic library.The game I'm experimenting with is an RPG; this project is expected to contain many big graphic files to use and I would prefer not to load everything into memory at once, like I've done before with other smaller projects.So, does anyone have experience with libraries such as this one? Here's what I've came up with:
Have graphic library files and paths in an XML file Each entry in the XML file would be designated "PERMANENT" or "TEMPORARY", with perm. being that once loaded it stays in memory and won't be cleared (like menu-graphics)The library that the XML file loads into would have a CLEAR command, that clears out all non-PERMANENT graphics I have experience throwing everything into memory at startup, and with running the program running with the assumption that all necessary graphics are currently in memory.

View 2 RepliesI've createda vb.net class library where I've defined a number of small classes... nothing complicated, just working with strings, sending emails, etc.In another project, I reference the class library and I'm seemingly able to create an instance ofone of tclasses - intellisense shows me all of the plic properties, methods, etc... all looks perfect. No compile errors at all, nothing b gumdropsand lollipops.When I run the app I'm working on that references the class library, it fails at the point where I'm creating an instance of the class and gives me a vague exception, "System.TypeLoadException".
