So far, my friend has this, and we're trying to figure out how to get the code to tell convert F to C, and back. All we can use for input is (example:) 10,f and it will change it to 40,C.

My question is I'm trying to let the user input the temperature number and the temperature type at the same time and the program will convert the temperature as instructed
But when I run the program and I type in for example 5,c I get an overflow error but if I just type 5 then it just converts.I'm trying to get the letter to work and not overflow.For example I want the user to have a choice of either typing in a number,f or number,c.

I'm new to visual basic and have decided to make a temperature conversion program. I've attached a screenshot to aid in my description. The program reads the temperatures on the left(from text boxes), converts them, and displays the answers on the right in text boxes. The program has a fever check at the bottom which displays whether or not the converted values are a fever.
I've managed to get this to work no problem, but I'm trying to get it so if the user enters the temperatures directly into the "result" textboxes, that the fever check still works. Unfortunately I'm having no luck, the fever check will only display a message if the values have been converted, not directly entered by the user. Here is the code I tried(fever.Text is what is displayed in a textbox above the fever check button):
Private Sub FeverCheck_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles FeverCheck.Click
'Turn string values entered into Decimal Values so they can be compared to decimal values
Dim fahrfever As Decimal
Dim Celsfever As Decimal
'The following two lines have problems when debugging

I am currently writing a code that prompts a user if they want to convert F to C or C to F, two functions with the calculations. My problem is my loop, it exits one time through and doesn't prompt again. And also doesn't display the final result.
' VB Script Document
option explicit
const menuBar = "Temperature Conversion"
Dim userPrompt, prompt, Temperature, toCelcius, toFahrenheit
prompt = vbOk
Do While prompt <> ""

Has anyone here used either of the following (or any other tool) to convert your vb6 code to a .net language?Artinsoft's upgrade companion (converts to c# and vb.net)
vbmigration partner(converts to vb.net)How effective were they and what size project did you convert?
How much work was left to do afterwards?How happy are you with the resultant .net project.What was the support like?Is there a support forum anywhere for users of tools like these, neither vendor seems to offer one.What did they charge, their prices are not published and I have heard wildly differing prices from different sources for both the above examples

I am creating a password managment tool and for the storage I will be using a text file, I want to encrypt so I decided I will use the Rijndael cypher. I have found source code which does this to a file:
http:www.codeproje...ncryptFile.aspx. It is well explained but I am but still struggling to understand parts as I never looked at cryptography at all before.
Private Function CreateKey(ByVal strPassword As String) As Byte()
'Convert strPassword to an array and store in chrData.
Dim chrData() As Char = strPassword.ToCharArray
'Use intLength to get strPassword size.
[Code]...
This assigns all of bytekey with half of the hash from byteresult. Am I correct? If not why not just use SHA256 instead of SHA512 as you are only using half of the hash. If somebody could explain this to me this would be great. Already confused and this is just creating the key, then the IV needs to be created(not sure what an Initialization vector does) then the encrypt/decrypt function. I think I will struggle understanding this but I am going to try.

It seems that in C#, a solution can contain multiple projects, which, I guess, would compile into separate but somehow related programs. It seems that this functionality is missing in VB, even though VB uses solution files as well.How would someone go about creating a tool or utility or "helper app" for a project? For example, a command line version of the program, which is a separate executable, but obviously would be distributed as part of the main program? Maybe I want to integrate a feature into windows where the user can right click on a certain file and choose "convert" from the context menu, where "convert" would open the helper app, which would read the file and save an updated copy of the file (converting from one file format to another and saving the result) without the user needing to wait for the main program to load, wait for the interface to be configured, then wait for the file conversion. The helper app would not need to display an interface to the user - just convert and save the file.

I haven't been doing a programming for awhile now. But, I was a VB programmer before. I will be creating a tool to log issues encountered by the users of our system. It will be a web based. I'm planning to create it in VB.Net. Any resources that you could share is greatly appreciated. I'm looking for a ready program that I could start with to speed up my programming.

Is there any tool I can use to create a report from a pipe-delimited file? This report will need to have multiple fonts on the same line and be "programmable". I need to be able to loop through a section to output detail data to the report, keeping track of how many records are output.

I am creating a small admin reporting tool that gathers certain information on some PCs. Unfortuantly the user that is running the tool doesnt have access and I cant give access to those particular machines. What I have done is created a user on these machines that can get this information.I would like to then have the reporting tool run certain parts of the code as this user so the information can be obtained, without any intervention from the user running the tool. Can I hardcode this user into the code so that it runs the code as the user?

I am creating a user tool for a game I am playing (NOT a hacking tool, it simply shows information about my own character). I have a template of what I need to do with the data I recieve, here is the code, it is coded in PHP
function decode_style($r) {
//get gender
$gender_array = array('Male', 'Female', 'Male 2','Female 2','Male 3', 'Female 3');
$style['Gender'] = $gender_array[round($r / hexdec(4000000))];
//GET AURA
[CODE]...
Ok, I understand PHP a bit (As you know one programming language you can understand just about any) and this is what I have created from this
Dim Style As Decimal
Dim Rank, RRank As Decimal
Dim Gender, RGender As Decimal
Dim Aura, RAura As Decimal
[CODE]...
As you can see, it is receiving a single piece of data from a remote SQL server, I then need to run this data through the above calculations (Seen in the PHP file) although the answers I'm getting are incorrect.
Here are some simple instructions I got in what goes on between values:
gender :
PHP
[CODE]...
aura:
PHP
[CODE]...

I am planning to create/write a new website. I don't have much web design experience.What I wanted to know is, can I create a webpage using visual basic .net? If I design the VB forms can I put it through a conversion process that converts the software to a format that can be hosted on a web server.

Not sure if this is the right place for this discussion. I am in the process of building some tools in Visual Studio 2010 Premium in Visual Basic Windows form application. There's not much out there for this. I figured this would be a great discussion and journey for many people.
Is this the right place to post this?Dr.Bones- " If my application is too hard for a 5th grader to run, I've made too complicated"

I am having a hard time dealing with this project. I wish to make a program that will be able to restrict programs to run. For example:Since we all know that the gpedit.msc has this ability. Which will add a new subkey under HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentversionPoliciesexplorer with a new subkey DisallowRun, and a DWORD value at the Explorer key will be added DisallowRun.If I click the Button1, the text in the Textbox1 will add a String Value to the key above.

I reported a bug with VS 2010 here: [URL]
They said they could not reproduce the error and wanted me to download the "Visual Studio 2010 Diagnostic Tool ". They just say download the tool and provide them with a trace file which i'm assuming the mean an ETW file. They give me no information on how to accomplish creating a file. I'm using you have to accomplish this with xperf but even if i'm right it has many options that i have no idea what they mean.
I have no idea how to run this thing and i shouldn't have to scour MSDN documentation for the tool trying to figure out what they want.. I did provide them with additional information on how to get the crash to open "have VS 2008 open" but unless i get instructions on what they want then unfortunately i'm not going to be able to help them.

I am making a gradient colored text tool for a game I play where they use a 3 digit number as an RGB color code before text. Making gradients by hand is tedious, as to do a gradient you type one letter at a time with an RGB code that changes by 1 in front of each letter.
example: "^090H^190e^290l^390l^490o" Would be a color gradient for Hello
I have a user input text into a text box and choose up to 6 colors. The colors then are assigned RGB values, only instead of 0-255 they are 0-9. (So they look like this 000=black 999=white 090=green, etc.)
I have figured out how to do this, but now I need to place the RGB values in front of the users text while only changing one of the RGB numbers at a time.
So if the color values are 090 and 900:
"090 190 290 390 490 590 690 790 890 990 980 970 960 950 940 930 920 910 900" is what I would like generated with the users text spaced evenly between.
I have no idea as to how I would go about putting three digit color codes between the users text or how to change the color codes one number at a time. I could try to do this on my own but it would be sloppy and probably a lot more code than needed (I have a feeling I should be using a loop or something like 'for each')... It's been awhile since I opened VB!

This is a very basic question, I have a parent form and a child form and both window state are set to maximize, would it be possible to remove the toolbar at the top? I have tried most thing like setting the form border style to none on the child form but still I get two tool bars. I would like to remove the tool bar in the black square
