creating an internet filter that is supposed to interface with web browsers, eg. Explorer, Chrome (not a web browser I made) and then block specific websites on the browser. I'm kind of lost on where I need to start with the interface. Could someone please just point me in the direction I need to go for 1) the program to work with any browser 2) For blocking specific sites.

Basically, I'm creating an online game that will edit some webpages that are incoming so that they contain parts of the game (it's a kind of scavenger hunt). How would I create this?
Does anybody have any ideas for this? I've found nothing online. If you do know something about this, I prefer code examples and not just subjects. I tend to need big pushes in a direction to learn something new.

View 3 Repliesim trying to do is countdown timer.already done with the start time and stop time but when it comes to the pause time and resume cant seem to make it work, what i did was put on the event click on my pause button was add a timer1.enabled = false and on the resume button timer1.enabled true, it does it job pausing the running time, but when i resume for example, i pause at a time of 05:30 for 9 seconds then resume the timer resumes at 5:21, (im making a countdown timer here) ,what i want to happen is that, when i resume, it will resume from 5:31 then continue counting down to 5:30,5:29 .

Third part download managers have these built in for example however i would like to make one for IE download dialog. Any ideas on how do start. View 3 RepliesWhat I am looking to do is write a VB.NET program, as a service that reports anything on client1 that I want (say the fact it is online) to a database on the internet, so I can look on management1 and see the online status of the machine (assuming management1 has a connection to the online database).
What is being reported doesn't matter, what I am looking at is a starting point to create a system like that. I have googled obviously and come up with nothing, I'd just like a "starting point" or some documentation to look at for creating something like this. The service doesn't look too difficult but the periodic reporting of online status or ANYTHING to any kind of database is not something I am sure how to deal with.
I already have setup a VBS that reports information to an ASP script that then places it in a database but I don't know how I would create say a "keep alive" connection for a vb.net service.
I would like to create an interface for the command prompt so users here do not have to type in everything. I would probably use a FileOpen dialog to pass paths, etcfor me would be a link to (or small sample code), that does something like register a .dll.

Im considering making my own command line interface with custom commands etc. I was thinking the following objects would be sufficient:
Textbox - for input
Rich text box - for showing processes and output
Button - to insert input
If it can be done, how can I provide line breaks in the output on the rich textbox e.g.
line1: input instruction
Line2: <cp><textfile.txt>
Line3: I/O error, file not found, check file root.

I am trying to create a gui that will interact with an existing external console application, e.g. the user only changes information in text boxes or radio buttons and that will prompt the VB.net program to sumbit a certain set of commands. I will create a folder for the end user that has only two programs in it, the VB.exe and the OtherProgram.exe. I have tried using ProcessStart with SendKeys to send information to the terminal with limited success (errors include multiple instances opening, entering "ttttttteeeeeeexxxxxxtttttt" instead of "text") and also Shell(OtherProgram.exe) and SendKeys with the same result.
I am trying to make an easier experience for using a legacy Fortran.exe program rather than every user going though the command prompts in the terminal window.

I wish to have the main screen just like the Kaspersky main screen, in my applications. That is, I'm really impressed by those tabbed menus. I mean, the user will select the menu from left side and corresponding menus and details is shown in right (see the pic below). How can I do that ?

View 1 RepliesI am creating an interface with several textboxes and HTML component and several buttons.But when I drag any textbox onto the existing form they line up vertically one under the another or they attach directly together on the same row. I want to be able to drag and drop and place these as well as the HTML component wherever I need on the form. In VB6 I simply selected what I needed and placed it with ease. Can someone tell me what I need to do gain this simple freedom in vb.net
View 3 RepliesI am creating an application with mlutiple forms. When you click on a button in the main menu, the main menu will close and the new window will be diplayed. When you hit back on the new window, the main menu will be displayed.I know how to show new forms by using Form1.Show(). When I try to return to the main menu by hitting a back button I created, the main menu does not show up, but the program continues running. I believe that this is in the correct forum due to it being about creating an interface item, but if I am wrong then let me know and I'll try and bring this thread to the attention of the mods to be moved to a more appropriate forum. I am currently trying to create a generic navigation control with a similar style to the outlook navigation bar. I have figured out how I would be able to dynamically create the bottom part where you select the menu option, but I'm struggling to figure out how I would be able to create the top part, which can contain any user control that the developer would want.
So basically what I'm trying to figure out is, is there a way to allow for a developer to add controls to a specific area of your user control?If there is a way of achieving that then if anyone knows how to do this;In ASP.Net you have the login controls and with one of them, you are able to have different views depending on whether the user who is viewing the web page is logged in or not. Is there a way of achieving this in VB.Net for a user control that could be set up so that I could have the developer able to switch the view in the designer to show them the view for when a specific navigation option has been selected.
The one thing that I have thought of that could possibly cause a problem is having the capability of knowing when one of the user controls has been clicked, while I haven't figured this out exactly, I believe I should be able to achieve this by having an event for the navigation user control that provides the developer a reference to the control.
While I would hope that I have explained what I'm thinking well, its before my first coffee of the morning so I might have missed out some detail which would help someone to help me if I have then please let me know and I'll provide any details required.Also if what I'm envisioning is Pie in the sky, then let me know and I'll just have to make a base which I would just have to make a more bespoke system.

I have a VB.Net project that I haven't worked on in awhile. I got into this morning and started to run it. I got some errors so I decided to step thru the code. I enter the Page_Load event of a Form module and execute a function call and it takes me to a "End Function" statement. Totally bypasses the function that was called. I continued to step thru it and it just took me randomly thru code. No order whatsoever. I believe I've had this happen before but don't recall how I fixed it.

I'm having lots of trouble understanding how repeaters are supposed to work and how I'm supposed to use them. Basically, I have a label, a set of image buttons, and a div within a repeater. When you click on the button, I want to populate the div that was created with these repeaters (so a different div for each iteration of the repeater).[code]I can't get the repeater to iterate. It's only firing off once and then stops. I can't get a label with the repeater data source's Subject (a field in my database) to appear.

I am using the FlatStyle properties to define it's look'n'feel. I've set the border to 0 but when the application loses focus, the border of the button shows up.I have tried to force the property to go 0 again when the application's "LostFocus" event is captured but doesn't work.I am also using a "rollover" method using MouseHover and MouseLeave events to change the image of the button.Using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition.

I am trying to learn how to use the modulus operator.this excersise is a change calculator and is supposed to calculate the number of dollars , qtrs, dimes, nickels and pennies from the change that is calculated.
in the form if i put a value in for owed = 30.00 and paid 34.25 my dollars returned = 4 and that is correct but the number of qtrs = 0 and should be 1. I am not sure how to correctly use this - any assistance you can provide is great - this is purely educational

My question is, the SelectedItem property of the Combobox is supposed to return a integer value, is it not? Because I am getting back integers, sometimes, then the next time through I get back a String. Has anyone else had a problem like this with the Combobox?

This is a part of a calculator code. When you press the button "BtnAdd" the text in TxtRes is held by the global variable "num1" and the operation number (whether add or subtract) by "oper". My problem is : OUTPUT 1: prints num1 = 25 (for example)While OUTPUT 2: prints num1=0
Why is this happening ? Isn't the value of num1 supposed to be equal everywhere in the form at a given moment ?
