Creating Different Users That Have Different Authorization Using .net?
Apr 25, 2010I am not capable of creating different users that have different authorization using vb.net.

View 5 RepliesI am having trouble creating inactive users in VB. I watched the tutorial [URL]but it is for C# and the code behind won't work in VB. I need the users to be inactive when they register and send the administrator an email saying someone has registered to be approved.
View 3 RepliesMy project is to create a windows application for communicating between users on our LAN, to both send and receive short text messages. I am attaching a rough draft of my Form in Basic, with notes about what I want in the different parts. I am only trying to find out if my goals are possible in VB-2010, before I invest a lot of time searching for and experimenting with the code... so here are my initial questions:
1) Is it possible to build such an application in Visual Basic 2010, and would I be able to use the free "Express" version I have downloaded, or would I need to purchase the full version?
2) Basically, each user would run the EXE program which is the main window (like the attached), and would see all users connected to the LAN (and listening on the specified port) in the ListBox... would receive incoming messages in the top window (output from a console module I have already got working), and be able to send to anyone on the LAN using the bottom window... Is all of this possible in VB-2010?
3) Is there any complications making this application work well on both Windows XP and Windows 7 (64bit) user machines?
I don't expect this to be easy by any means, I just want to know if I'm embarking on something that is possible or not.

So I had a report I needed to create and needed to get the total users per job for a system that I was not (and still am not) very familiar with. I asked the developer for that system for the code and was told it was no easy task. He sent me a query that didn't look anything like a user count. I told him I needed something to get all the users for each and every job in order to put it in the report I was building for one of the clients. I was told that wouldn't really work. I looked at his code as it worked on a per job basis.
The following is an example of the "logic" used to get the user count per job in asp.net:
TRUNCATE TABLE1
INSERT username INTO TABLE1 FROM QUERY1 WHERE CRITERIA MET AND job = *passedinjob
INSERT username INTO TABLE1 FROM QUERY2 WHERE CRITERIA MET AND job = *passedinjob AND username NOT IN TABLE1
SELECT username FROM TABLE1 and put in a dataset
[Code] .....
There were no UNION statements in the query1 or query2, there was no select count(*) from table, there was no recordset.count..
I have a form which has a textbox named "textbox1", and a button named "Button 1". Button 1 is meant to be a submission for textbox1 (i.e. when button1 is pressed, the value of textbox1 is saved and remembered). I want the value of textbox1 to be remembered on any computer, but I need it to be update-able too. I tried using settings to do this like so:
Private Sub Form3_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Me.TextBox1.Text = My.Settings.TextBox1
[Code]....
but the problem in doing this is it only works for the current user. When the application is then put on another computer the value is blank.
I have created a multiuser application and at different user login i want to create different instances of the application. How to do this? Can somebody give the concept of how to approach this?
View 14 RepliesI haven't been doing a programming for awhile now. But, I was a VB programmer before. I will be creating a tool to log issues encountered by the users of our system. It will be a web based. I'm planning to create it in VB.Net. Any resources that you could share is greatly appreciated. I'm looking for a ready program that I could start with to speed up my programming.

View 1 RepliesI am currently creating an application to track timekeeping (a clock in/out system) and I am trying to work out the best way to do this.
I have a Main Form which contains buttons to ;
- Out for Break
- In from Break
- Log out
When a user presses the "log in" button the logon form appears, the user then enters their username and password. What happens next is where I would like the help.
Process is as follows:Click Logon Enter Username/Password Check Logon Form for errors (eg no password etc) Check User is in Database (using SQL query) If user is in DB and username and pass are ok then refer back to the main form to perform Stored Procedure for what the user wants to do (eg logon or or out for break etc). Set label on main form to show user as logged on My question is should I be using a public variable and calling the main form again or in the user logon form having 4 options and using an IF ELSE to select the appropriate Stored Procedure?
I am creating a form that creates new users and then updates them to a dataset, I have done this ok, but I am getting a runtime error when I delete a record. Please see below the exception being thrown
"Update requires a valid DeleteCommand when passed DataRow collection with deleted rows"

CODE:
So I know I need to add a delete command, but how do I write this in code and do I write it in the saveitem click event? I guess I would because the app crashes when I click save to update the dataset.
I am making changes to my companies internal paysite in order to come into compliance with the new credit card regulations. We have decided that when we get a split tender transaction that comes through we want to get the remaining balance along with how much was on the card to start out with and send that info back to the customer service rep with a message relaying the need for another payment source along with the remaining balance and the amount that was originally on the card.
Instead of chaining the transactions together with the split tender Id we have decided we would like to finalize each split tender transaction with a prior_auth_capture and then request the next payment source and amount and process that transaction in the same manner. I know that we are side stepping the functionality some but those are my orders.
My questions are, is this feasible and possible and how do you do this in code? I am using the C# SDK to implement this in VB.NET 2008
My thoughts are that I would have to process the transaction for the amount passed as a auth_capture transaction and then some how do the prior_auth_transaction with a zero amount or something?
I need to validate a basic authorization header that is being sent to my HttpListener in VB.NET. I'm grabbing the header like so (feel free to point out better ways to do this as well):
EncodedAuth = Context.Request.Headers.GetValues("Authorization")(1)
Now how do I decode them? I understand the theory but I can't seem to find the right code.
I made this login script and I want a user to download a file when they login. The download file button checks a folder named login. Once a user logs in it creates a folder named login then it allows the user to download the file. The only problem I have is that I don't know how to let the download button accept any user. Right now the person has to be named chris and they can choose what password they want. Also how do I allow the program to place the file on the desktop and not the test folder. I didn't know the code for it because each user has a

I have a Asp.net Web Project using authentication mode="Forms". My login works perfectly. Now the Problem is that I have a link in a site that is only available to authorized users. It is possible that the pdf file of that link does not exist. What I want to do is to verify the availability of the pdf with a HttpWebRequest. Since the pdf file is only available for authorized users (web.config/location/system.web/authorization) I have to mark the HttpWebRequest as authrorized. But I don't have the logincredentials at this time (only when the user logs in and the .net framework wouldn't get me the password of the user). How to send the already established authorization with a new HttpWebRequest?
View 2 RepliesIs it possible to have location authorization nodes in a web.config be external?
Such that I could take all of the nodes simlar to
[Code]...
And move them outside of the web.config or something simlar? I find these nodes at an extreme amount of noise to a web.config when they're relatively static. Normally my approach would be to config source something like this but since it falls under the root node I'm not sure of it's possible with these nodes.
I created an application that when a user logs onto their Windows account, a Form is displayed outlining the current Computer Usage policy set by the insitution and gives the user two options either Agree or Dis-Agree. The two options are in the form of buttons, with events that depending on what the user clicked, will create a log text file at a specified location, with enteries of Date,Time,CurrentUser, and if they agreed or disagreed. If they agreed the application after creating/amending the file will then terminate, otherwise it will update the file and then force Windows to logoff the current user.
Now I made a shortcut of the .exe of the application and placed it in the startup for all users, and yes the application loads at startup for all the users following the procedures mentioned above. The problem I am facing is, that if the current user logs off, or is forced to log off, and another user logs onto Windows, goes through the whole ordeal mentioned above, the application is denied access to the logfile that was created under the previous user, and thus crashes.
So my question is, how can I created a text file using vb 2008 application, that is accessible by multiple Windows users. I have even tried changing the location of the created file to the shared folder, but the end result is the same.
i created the following ActionFilterAttribute to check if a user is granted access to a page. I also created two custom Exceptions to handle different scenarios: NotLoggedInException and InsufficientPrivilegeException.
[Code]...
Where do I catch the exceptions to for instance redirect users if not authorized?Should I perhaps use the SiteMap authorization somewhere else instead of using the ActionFilterAttribute and throwing Exceptions..?
note: as you can see I'm using a custom class for BLL.Page. This is a ORM page which has Role based security stored in the database. SiteMap is also populated based on this data
I am trying to make an oledb connection to an Access database.
1. I added a component class. It said drag from the toolbox to add components.
2. I dragged over the Oledbconnection and OledbdataAdapter
3. I clicked on new connection string for the oldeb Connection and try to connect to the SHX.mdb datababase in the debug/ bin folder I don't have a username or password for the database and do not want to set one up.( is this possible in .net?)
4.As soon as I try to test the connection, I get the "invalid authorization specification" message. I can't get past this and do not really understand why I am getting this message.I have vb 2005 standard edition, not express edition. The exact same thing happens when I try to set up the data adapter to the shx.mdb database.
I am on XP2 and not logged in with a password or username. Could this be the issue or is there something else I am overlooking. Also, since I am coming from vb6 and ADO is there anyway to just write the code without having to use datasets, adapters and oledb connections to bound controls?
I have an asp.net web app that uses forms-based authentication, a SqlMembershipProvider (using an encrypted password format), and a SqlRoleProvider. I need to know if it's possible to administer the users (create new users, assign them to roles, etc.) from a windows application - the powers that be don't want any administrative functionality in the web app itself. Here is the membership provider definition from web.config:

2.Also , in order for the user to be able to use the application, hell have to register it then, everytime, before the application loads, it gets verified online that it was registered, maybe validate the registration information or a valid user name and password, no critical personal information. The target of this step is for the application to be used exclusively by the registered user and maybe on his computer only.

I am trying to generate crystal reports from visual studio..net 2008 and my database is created using SQL server management studio express 2005. I am getting login errors when using the OLE DB for SQL Server source. In studio express I use SQL server and windows authentication and I have tried leaving the user ID and password blank and putting in my login details but still getting the error. I have enabled multiple connections to the database.
