Could Not Get Type Information For Dataset
May 31, 2006I started a vb form project and tried to add a data adapter and dataset to the project. Using the "Add new data source" wizard,
I get the error: "Could not get type information for ...dataset" I have tested this with two dB's and get the same error each time. One was the master db and the other was a dB that is custom. The stored Proc's are very simple, the first I tried was
Select name from Sysdatabases;
The other was one that had worked in VS2003 in another project.
VS2005 Pro, VB project on Windows XP sp2, SQL 2000 sp4 on a windows 2003sp1 enterprise server.
Dataset Field Not Able To Contain Enough Information?
Mar 7, 2012So I have a form that uses a datagrid with checkbox selections for multiple (read as many!) items.When I click a button labeled "Save to file", all the information on the form, to include the values of the selected datagrid items are then saved to a database. It works great most of the time.However, I have found that if I select more than 3 items in the datagrid, I get an error pointing to the data set and data adapter stating "OleDbException was unhandled - The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add.Try inserting or pasting less data".The code it points to is:

In the dataset, I have tried to change the max length of the associated field.It was set at 255, and as long as I stay under that, I seem to be fine. But if I go over it, I get the error. I can change the design I guess to make it less wordy and therefore store less data, but is there an easier way?

Now I already know the computers name, so I will test the result with the actual computer name, just to see if I am using the WMI properly. This is at the moment only for learning, in the future I want to be able to find out the Current User, How much memory, what applications are installed, what applications are running etc.

Dataset With Wizard Could Not Get Column Information
Jun 5, 2011i tried creating a dataset using the myodbc driver 5.1 (which im sure is correctly typed in because that is the exact same connection string i used for data manipulation within my app.now, im stuck. i cannot generate any reports because the dataset i created can not return any field information w/c is confusing because it displays the names of the tables from the database. is there any way i can import all the data i need to my reports programatically??

I am going out to the database, gathering the requested information and filling the dataset. Therefore, everytime I add a query to a table adapter, it is also going to the database to get the information. So, my question is, how do I fill a table in a data set with all the records in the database table and then, filter the information I've already collected in the dataset without going back out to the database again?

Application Reads Information From An Excel Spreadsheet Into A DataSet
Jul 15, 2010My application reads information from an Excel spreadsheet into a DataSet (ds1) which is then filtered into another DataSet (ds2) based on user-specified criteria. The information is basically telephone call logs that reflects when a phone call was made,what extension it was made one, how long the call was, what number was called, etc.When the user's "search" criteria is matched in ds1 above, the application adds the number called to a ListBox on the form. When the ListBox Item is selected, additional information (call duration and such) is displayed to the right of the ListBox. My problem is that a single phone number could have been called multiple times on an extension within the date range the user specifies and for each occurrence of that number in the ListBox, the "expanded" info only reflects the information for the 1st call to that number listed in the DataSet.
The only unique identifier I have is the DateTime field for the row (as this goes up to the second). I thought about putting it into the ListBox item, but I'd prefer that this date not be visible until the user selects the ListBox item to view the details for that call. [code]
VS 2005 Getting Information From DataSet To Populate Defaults In Controls?
Jan 27, 2011I have a form that has many controls. My next task is to populate the phone number (MaskedTextBox) and phone number type (ComboBox) when the cursor has lost focus from a ComboBox that has auto complete functionality. I have tried to do it and when the cursor leaves focus, the other controls are not populated. Nothing happens. I do not get any errors either. Screen shot attached for the form and I am also using a stored procedure to do this. There are two tables in question here. A client table that the name and phone number and then the second table that has the phone number type (cell, work, home, etc).There is an FK relationship between the two.
This is my stored procedure. It is called sp_GetClientInfoByName.

Apr 22, 2010I have a list of names in a database and what i want is to get all of these names and display them in a label or a text box to the user on the website. I have tried to do this using a for loop but it is always overwriting the label each time. I have a list of 10 different names in the database and what it is doing is putting the first name in the label and then overwriting this with the second name and so on until it reaches the last name. I think i need to store each of the names from the database into an array or an arrayList and then make the label display all of the contents from the array or arrayList. The for loop i have used for this is:

Nov 21, 2010I have a label that is supposed to display a word for 5 seconds and then move down the list in a text file and display the next word.I'm oddly able to make it work in random mode, but not going down the list in order.. random would be ok if used words didn't come up again.

Apr 22, 2011I'm trying to, from a client-side piece, call off to a server-side piece. I need to do this synchronously. On my server-side code, though, I'm calling off to another piece of code, which I want to have a maximum of, say, 10 seconds to return a value. If I don't have a response within 10 seconds, I want to force my own server piece to set my result equal to 0, and return to the client.
Here's what I have on my server-side code so far:

Cannot Get Comboboxes To Display Correct Information
May 4, 2009I have 3 databases: Subject, Class, and Students. In the Subject database, I have SubjectID and SubjectName and the PK is SubjectID. I have the releationship bound to the Students table where I only have the SubjectID in there. Next in the Class database I have ClassID and ClassName. ClassID is the PK and it's relationship is bound to the Students database where I only have the ClassID in there. Here is what I am having troubles with.I have comboboxes set up on a form to where the user can select which class and which subject the student is good at. What I want to do is to be able to insert those values into the Students table so that the values will make the correct Subject and Class name appear on the students record. I also want to be able to modify said Subject and Class ID, which when you click on the button, brings up another form to edit Student info, such as name, address, phone number, etc.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I take the comboboxes and display them on the form. For the datasource I use the Class for one and Subject for the other. The display member is Subject name or Class name and the value member is either class ID or Subject ID. When I run the project though, the class name and subject stay the same for all the students. I have sample data in my tables that is different for each student, but it does not work.

Feb 12, 2012I've currently got a service that produces xml files every 10 seconds containing server information. I'm looking for a way to display this on a web page. I have been looking on the web for the best way to do this and it seems that using AJAX would be good as it allows the loading of dynamic content to be done in the background. However how can I use AJAX? Should I add a ASP.NET website to my visual studio project? OR should I look to use javascript & AJAX in something like dreamweaver? I'm very new to programming so i only really have a bit of experience in vb.net.
