VS 2008 Storing Information To An Array Or ArrayList And Displaying Each Item In Label?
Apr 22, 2010
I have a list of names in a database and what i want is to get all of these names and display them in a label or a text box to the user on the website. I have tried to do this using a for loop but it is always overwriting the label each time. I have a list of 10 different names in the database and what it is doing is putting the first name in the label and then overwriting this with the second name and so on until it reaches the last name. I think i need to store each of the names from the database into an array or an arrayList and then make the label display all of the contents from the array or arrayList. The for loop i have used for this is:
Dim g As SQLadmin = New SQLadmin()
g.DB("SELECT nameOfPerson FROM Persons")
For i As Integer = 0 To g.array.GetLength(0) - 1
[code]....
i can select the names from the database and store them in an array then make the label display each of the names.
I need to construct a small program that "stores" entered test scores into the program then when a button is clicked, it will display the scores with the appropriate names in the box below. The values are the names "Brian" "james" "jimmy" "jock" and "gok" and there are two test scores "main test" "small test".. I need to be able to "store" these in a "database" and then when the user clicks "show marks" it displays all the names with the marks in a table format. I'm totally screwed and i dont know where to start..I already have done a little coding for the gui such as a password entering system and all that works, all I need now is this storing thing.
I'll try to explain what i'm doing here, i wan't look through a text file, adding certain lines to an individual array element. So i want to build an array with mcode, mTitle, mCredits, mSemester, moduleStats, currentYear <--- this information as an array element. So here is my attempt at the code,
Dim sr As StreamReader = New StreamReader("datasource.txt") Dim line = sr.ReadLine() ' get each line and store it Dim currentYear As Integer
I started programming in VB many moons ago, but I put it down about a year ago. I picked back up a project I was working on a few years ago and Visual Studio 2008 Pro had to convert it. It seemed to work just fine but I wanted to make it "look .NETish", so I simply copied all the controls and code into a new project. The new project won't display information stored in static arrays on a Rich Text Box. The arrays are declared public in a code.vb file and the array is populated in the load event for the main form.I've tried inserting a "test" button to see if I could somehow get it to display trying a few different things. Essentially:
Private Sub cmdTest_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdTest.Click Dim test As String = Gems(0)
[code].....
Has array conventions changed or something in the past year or so? How do I extract the information contained in Gems() that I have so maticulously entered so long ago
I need to use an array at any part of the project. It has been suggested to me to build an array and show its result in a combobox. Instead of having an input textbox, i will have a combobox which will display 10 common names which are kept in the array.
'Defines the array Names Dim names(9) As String 'Defines the array's fields[code]......
I have an app that I am developing to keep track of my members' names and phone #'s. I have all current names and numbers in a csv file and they are read into a structured array. The app can add, delete, and modify members. I have everything coded except the 'Modify' menu item. The list box is populated with only names at run time, I would like to have both the name and phone number displayed in the two text boxes I have on the form when a name is selected from the list box. I can get the name to display in the text box I have for names, but since the phone number is not in the list box I am wondering how I can get it into the appropriate phone text box. I used txtName.Text = lstMemberList.SelectedItem to get the name displayed but since the phone number is not in the lstMemberList list box I cannot figure out how to get it into the txtPhone text box.
I want to create an array of an array (or arraylist of an arraylist) to hold strings.I want to fill an array1 with string values Then add this array to array2. - but only taking up 1 row in array2 e.g something like array2(index)=array1 Then clear array1 then loop through this again with different data, and add it to the array2.so will end up with something like
array2(0)... contains a collection of array1 data array2(1)... contains a collection of different array1 data .. and so on
i think i need to make new instances of array1 each loop, but not sure.I dont mind if it uses arrays, or arraylists, or lists, or structure of arrayslists?
I have a vb .net ArrayList that I would like to store in one field on my Ms SQL 2008 database. Is it possible to put it in and get it back out as an ArrayList? I'm guessing i need to break down the Array some how and store it as a string, then rebuild it when reading back as i dont see any datatypes for sql that are for arrays. Which is a bummer for me! edit - The ArrayList stores a set of quote ID's. There is no limit to how big it is so it could hold 1 or 1001 different ID's
I am attempting to create a program that opens a file and reads the contents to then display them in a set of four text boxes (e.g. id, firstName, lastName, avg.Salary). it stores the data in an array.
i have done all that i can do, however, i wish to display in a label something similar to this "5/10 (5th record of a total of 10)" meaning the 5th record in the array out of a total of 10 records. i have already done the code to display the total amount of items in the array, that part was simple, but i can't get my head around trying to code something that will display the record that i am currently viewing in the text boxes.
i have a "view previous record" and a "view next record" button that will go through to the next or previous record, in doing so will change the "5/10" records to the next appropriate number, e.g. "5/10" goes to "4/10" if the previous button is pressed (in doing so, obviously the records that are shown in the text boxes will change to the next or previous record)[code]...
I have 13 variables, all called Items1, Items2, Items3 and so on. I have a combo box with items in, each time I click a button I want it so whatever is selected is stored in a variable and if the button is selected again then it stores whatever is selected in the next variable. I know all the code for selecting items in a combo box and transferring it to a variable but the problem I cannot do is the part where each time a button is clicked it stores whatever is selected in the combo box to the next variable.
I want to (for an example) find out the computername of a specific computer. Now I already know the computers name, so I will test the result with the actual computer name, just to see if I am using the WMI properly. This is at the moment only for learning, in the future I want to be able to find out the Current User, How much memory, what applications are installed, what applications are running etc.
Here is my code
vb.net Dim Options As New ConnectionOptions Options.Username = "***********"
I am having a problem displaying a custom array list I have in my code. (BTW. It is 1am where I am. I have been at this for a long time so I apologize if I don't make a lot of sense).I built an arraylist of objects from a custom class. The arraylist contains 2 columnsdimensions. The first is type string, the second decimal.I am now attempting to take my arraylist and display it in my form. I have tried using a listview and iterating through it, but unsure of how to split the two columns up. I have tried something similar to the following I found in another forum:
Code: For i As Integer = 0 To arSearchArray.Count - 1 Dim item As String = CType(arSearchArray(i), String)
I have a list view control and for each item I set to display an icon it will change the icons for the other items that already have icons, to the most recently added icon.
Here is my code.
vb.net Dim ext As String = Strings.Right(e.Item.Text, 4) Dim fileandparam As String = IconsInfo(ext).ToString
im writing a program for my vegetarian girlfriend that does two things from the main menu. 1: add foods with attributes like name, iron content, protein, sodium etc. 2: use the foods that have already been stored and use them to make a balanced meal. What im having trouble with is, how do i save the attributes when storing the foods ? i have knowledge with c++ so i understand how classes work and was wondering if there is something similar in Visual Basic.
I have a form displayed where a user can can select a 'function' from a list box. That 'function' has a corresponding ID number which I need to be able to take and use later in the code. The List of functions is preset (about 150+ them and the IDs are already assigned (so I can't just use the index). So if the user selects "Function A", I need the code to set a variable to, for example "42" (or whatever that Funtion's ID is).
I was going to do this using listbox.item and listbox.itemData, but I'm using VB.Net in VS2008 and I understand that function is no longer present (to add ItemData at design time). Here's where it gets complicated. When the form loads it looks at the variable containing the FunctionID and if there is one present, I want it to populate the co-ordinating FunctionName. I can do that if I know the index number, but I don't know how to look at the FunctionID and return it's index (all FunctionIDs are unique).
A) store the info, either in the Listbox using ItemData, in an array (but I'd prefer to do it at design time), or some other way you might suggest.
B) cross-reference the ID and display the name in the listbox when the form loads.
I am creating a program with multiple Forms designed to track multiple projects. The first form is designed to setup new projects and obtain previous projects, from there the other forms open to be filled in with information. For new projects the next forms open blank but I then need these later forms to be tied to this project name so that it can be selected from a combobox and the information will be already populated.tieing the information on the later forms to the projects populated in the combobox so that it appears when a specific project is selected. Is this able to be done without creating databases?
As an example, say I create a new project then a new form opens and I add some information to a textbox.I would then like to be able to save the information so that the project name moves to the combobox on the first form (I can handle this) and the information input in to the textbox is tied to the project name so that when the program is reopened and the project name is selected the second form opens with the textbox populated.
I am making a program that stores information for my applications. There are 4 main things I need in the XML file, the login information (User name and password), Application names and keys, and the owner of the application (who bought it). The program allows the user to enter as many applications and owners as they want and once login information is correct it loads the data. Then on exit all the data saves to a XML file.
My XML file looks like this <Data> <Login> <UserName> (UserName) </UserName> <Password> (Password </Password> </Login> <Applications> [Code] .....
i'm doing a program that reads a .csv file, and i want to split the 5th information to a array. But just the 5th information on every line. There is the code i have already done:
Public Class form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim ofd As New OpenFileDialog
What I need to do is read an ArrayList in My.Settings and add another ArrayList to it. The first think I'm trying to do is load My.Settings.Records into myArrayList. I'm not quite sure on the proper way to do this. I've tried things such as Dim myArrayList As ArrayList = My.Settings.Records, I'm not sure if I need New and I'm not sure if I need .Clone or .CopyTo.
Then I have another ArrayList myArrayList2. To get this into myArrayList I've done: [Code] Then to save it back to My.Settings I've done. My.Settings.Records = myArrayList. The problem is I keep on getting Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on the AddRange line. My.Settings.Records is definitely an ArrayList and it will sometimes = Nothing. The objects will only ever be strings.
I am defining an ArrayList type varaible. It can have of any type of items. I want to know the type of its item. Is there any way to know the type of items in the arraylist variable? I want to know the type of item in the for loop.
Dim ArrList As New ArrayList Dim A As Integer Dim s As String
I'm having trouble with removing an item from an ArrayList. I've done it many times, I just can't seem to figure out why it's not working this time around.[code]...
In lack of a Value property I planned to use Classes for storing Text and Value properties for my ComboBox items. So far I've succeeded. Here is my class:
Public Class clCombobox Public cname As String Public cvalue As Integer[code]......
It seems like this works so far. But how do I get data back. Like if I want the value of the selected CheckBox item? I tried using:
CType(cmbCombobox.SelectedItem, clCombobox).Value() Did not work.
After executing a query with LINQ to SQL, the result I have is an arraylist (.ToList) of items with ID numbers. The number of items and their occurences will vary with each query. would simply like to count the occurences of each specific ID in the list. How do I do that?? The only count function I know of (.count() ) is for a count on the entire list. I've also I've been reading on how to loop through the list items but I don't understand how I can do that if I don't know how many specific ID's there will be from each query

I am trying to count how many items are in an ArrayList and then save that into a Label variable that is updated each time an item's barcode is scanned.Information about the code below:rejectedList is the ArrayList that contains rejected parts.RejectedPartsNumberLabel is the label I am trying to update with the count from the ArrayList
Public Shared Function isFault(ByRef code As String) As Boolean rejectedList.Add(code) RejectedPartsNumberLabel.Text = rejectedList.Count Return (code.Length = 7 And IsNumeric(Mid(code, 1, 1))) Or (code.Length = 4 And Mid(code, 1, 2) = "NC") End Function
