Deal With Incredibly Long (large) Numbers In .net?
Nov 27, 2010
How is it possible to deal with incredibly long (large) numbers in vb.net?I am working on Problem 25 in Project Euler, and my program cannot handle these computations. Is there a data type that can handle thousands of digits?
Is there a correct way of doing this in vb.net? I want to read a file as a set of numbers such as long integers ,say the file contains the string "Hello World - Its a beautiful day blah blah blah" This would read as a set of long integers that are 4 bytes long
ie ascii (hex) 48 65 6C 6C 6F 20 57 6F H e l l o W o
etc and that would also be an 4 byte word represented as a number 1819043144 thus stepping through the file 4 bytes at a time. Instead of reading and looking for certain words in the file I would look for certain numbers, thus eliminating read errors in certain file types. I coded this type of thing in vb6 before , this would be done with the 'get' method and a file pointer. I have managed to read it a byte at a time with this code but I am unsure where to go with it as the 'get' method isn't in vb.net
Imports System.IO Imports System.Text Public Class Form1
Any simple way to add commas to large numbers (example: instead of "123456789" as my text converted {and loaded into a text box} output of a calculation, I want to see "123,456,789")?
The loop will run about 3 times then overflow. I guess no matter what u do xor will result in Byte,Integer or Long. CDec(Key) will not work I need a way to bypass this so i can Xor large numbers.
How can I calculate 2^ 3333 in vb.net it calculates up to 2^ 60 it says infinite for this calculation. Is tehre any way to work with really large numbers?
This piece of C# code does not produce any overflow exception.wordsize is a constant equal to 32.the x and y can be very big at the computation time. So big that long or decimal even cant hold. But C# handles the problem even the value of the variables exceeds its limits. The computation gives thr right result.(I dont know how it does it)
I want a method of dealing with very, very, very big numbers (potentially a million digits). It is very cumbersome to deal with very big numbers in VB, would another language perhaps be better for that?
For example, to calculate this:(22 ^ 29) Mod 57Supposedly there is a way to get around overflows and do these calculations, but I can't find much online. Now, the person who said this was doing VBA in Excel and said that there was about 4 lines of code which could handle the overflow so it wouldn't happen.
I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.
I am currently trying to create a program to list a large group of numbers for me. My final goal is to have every 2, 3, 4, ..., and 9 digit number containing only "1" "2" and "3". I thought I would go about this by using the following VB.NET program and then copying it into a text editor, and using find & replace to eliminate all other numbers.
Public Class Form1 Dim Start As Integer = 333333333 Dim Counter As Integer = 333333333
[Code].....
it fails due to the massive amount of processing that needs to take place. However, adding the intervals requires a great deal of time for each number to be displayed without any crashes.
Is there some way (in VB.NEt or another language) to get the number list I want in a short (an hour or less) amount of time?
I need some guidance on a little program I'm making (one that I thought would take a couple of hours from start to finish, it's been days now ...) that determines all of the proper divisors of any given number up to the maximum value of a UInt32.
I need to count a large amount numbers in short time.As a result the CPU jumps to 40-60% on 4-core PC.Which is extremely high.I have any idea that will lock up the thread for some time, but not actually slow or reduce the amount of files that are allowed to be counted per a giving time period.
I'm currently attempting to make on ORPG using Visual Basic 2008. It's a big project, I know. I've currently made a working map editor and the basics of a game client(movement with physics, etc.). Unfortunately, when the form's size is larger(in the actual game client), the form becomes REALLY slow. The larger the form is, the slower it runs. The smaller it is, the faster it runs... And I also have horrible lag in my map editor. So horrible it's impossible to be productive. It has nothing to do with the form's size this time.
I need a date cyclically convert into its components (hour, minute, second). The following code does this quite well.
Dim time_hour As Integer Dim time_minute As Integer Dim time_second As Integer
[Code]....
However, I have found this a performance problem. I have examined the source code with a profiler, and the conversion of Now into its components seems to be incredibly slow. Is there a quick way to the current time to disassemble into its component parts?
I have spent the last 20 plus hours trying to parse a incredibly small XML file with Xpath. I understand that it is a ready only, extremely fast way to pull values out of an xml file. Here is the string I am working with. I have a 3rd party function that returns results, based on these xml results i would like to retrieve certain vaules.
Is there a easer way of coding in stead of wrighting long long paragraphs like this in one line [code]All of this is on one line and i got lots of info to put down.."The game will begin on your 16th birthday with your mother waking you up. Today you are to go to the castle for the first time. Leave your bed and open your dresser for a Strength Seed. "
With the shape of really large characters such as numbers and alphabetic characters + others, is there a way to get that shape as a REGION please?Imagine a really fat snake forming the letter S or two rectangles placed together to form a large letter L or a T like the shapes in TETRIS.
1) Does anyone know of anything in VB.Net that can translate such shapes into a System. Drawing.Region or know of a project elsewhere that achieves this please?
2) While I'm on the subject, how would you SCALE UP / DOWN a System.Drawing.Region please? How would you work out the Transform Matrix required please?
I want to write a program to do Markov chain, but my states are quite large. First of all I calculate all the transition probabilities and revenues for all states(1381860 total states), and store in a multidimensional array. Public RevArr(0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As Long
After that the iteration of markov chain should use these as inputs to calculate the steady-state probabilities. But when I try to run the main code I got this error.Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
The following is the declaration of second array I add just another dimension for storing all the iterations, but I get this error. Dim stateprob(IT + 1, 0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As single
In Visual Studio 2008 I am using :Private Declare Function BlockInput Lib "user32" (ByVal fBlock As Long) As Long To stop input from occuring during a search-replace operation.
BlockInput(True) ' do not allow input during search and destroy Dim cursorIcon As Cursor cursorIcon = Cursor Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor
Then setting it to false at the end of the operation. It did not work, so I thought maybe it was because I was calling it from a child window, so I created a function in the mainwindow, and ran it like this:
FrmMain.BlockFrmMainInput()With these functions is the Main window:
[Code]...
It did not solve the problem. I thought maybe it was because I was running under the debugger, so I tried compiling and running it debugger-free, but that did not do any better. I am still getting input when I double-click the mouse on either form.
I am using VB 2005 and MS Access 2007.Some of business name has apostrophe(') and I need to know how SQL deal with this name. For example
sqlStr = "SELECT * FROM AddressTable WHERE BusinessName=" & "'" & updateBName & "'" in this case, if updateBName is "Den's Nail", the real SQL is "SELECT * FROM AddressChangeTable WHERE BusinessName='Den's Nail'"
and this code generates Error Message. Is there any way to prevent error ?Or do I have to remove all apostrophe(') in Business Name?
slno Name Age City 1 Ron 22 Dallas 2 Jonny 26 Texas
Now i use the following method to access data:
Try Using connection As New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=E:Visual Studio 2008ProjectsSmart SyncronixSmart SyncronixSmartDB.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True")
TabControl1. It is the only control that is created in design time. My text editor is a tabbed program. I have a addtab() function that whenever teh user clicks the toolstrip addtab, the tabcontrol adds tabs. THe code below is for the addtab()
Private Sub AddTab(Optional ByVal file As String = Nothing) NewRTB.AllowDrop = True NewTab.AllowDrop = True
My app is basically talking to a device via RS232. I need to 'listen' to the data received and do certain things based on it, update labels, etc. When I started, I only had a couple cross-thread calls and I used JMC's example to get by that. Now my app is bigger and I am calling the ThreadProcSafe all the time. I am hoping there is an easier way so I don't have to create sub routines for every control. Here's the relevant parts of my code.
Private Sub StepperSerialPort_DataReceived(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.IO.Ports.SerialDataReceivedEventArgs) Handles StepperSerialPort.DataReceived Dim ReceiveBuffer As String
I've recently been given the task of finishing an incomplete project for my University. It'll count as credit for one Class so I'll shave a month off of my studies!
[Code]...
Methods returning numbers just for the hell of it, passwords being saved in plaintext, you name it.
I have a meeting with the original author and I don't know how to handle this situation because I'm quite green in this area. How can I tactfully mention that I want to rewrite the whole thing?
I was trying to add two quantities at different rows of same description i.e same product_name and same item_pack.1st I want to check the table if it contains the same description or not by comparing with the first record and so on. When found, I'll add up the quantities and then to delete that particular row (to avoid duplicate search). But when I delete the row the particular row, next time it throws an out of index exception
I've received a text file in which the text is like this, ãYAHOO.COM. When I'm debugging in Visual Studio, the value I see for the character is ""c. Firstly can anyone tell what is the character before yahoo. Is it a special character or some html character, and what is the character that I'm seeing in VS while debugging. So it goes like this, the ascii value of the character turns out to be 63.But when I write the value to a file it generates 3 characters whose ascii values are above 127.
