I have a list of objects, each with several events. I can add an eventhandler to each object, so I can catch each item's events. But I would also like to know the sender's index in the list (ie, was this object the 3rd, 5th, etc, item in the list?) I'm guessing the object doesn't "know" its position.I could give each object an index number property when it is created and added to the list, so that information could be passed. However, I would have to reindex every item everytime I use remove, insert, etc, methods.
Suppose you have list 1 (ilist1) and list 2 (ilist2) both lists have 3 items.
At index 0 item1 which has text "-- Select --" At index 1 item2 which has text "Yes" At index 2 item3 which has text "No"
Both lists have identical items. I would like to know if it is possible to have the selection of list one be "Yes" and the selection of list two be "No" and vice versa using SelectedIndexChanged or something of the sort.
For example: ilist1 = --Select-- ilist2 = --Select--
Private Sub minschanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtAct1.TextChanged, txtAct2.TextChanged, txtact3.TextChanged, txtact4.TextChanged, txtact5.TextChanged
[Code]....
When one of the boxes is changed, I would like to find the index of the sender object that was changed in the txtmins() array.
My current situation is a brain teaser for me, and I wish I could provide code that I have tried but quite frankly - i have no idea how to even start. So this is my situation; I have a tab control, this tab control holds the names of Departments for a Lay-Away manager. The user has the option to click a static tab, "New.." and add a new department. When that happens, the new tab controls name is added to the settings, and a new list-view is created, and named "lst & DepartmentName". The problem is, I have no way of knowing when the Double_Click event of the this list that may, or may not exist happens. I have a method of determining which list is currently active, working with a timer to set a certain value the name of the list, sort of like
Dim lst = GetAllList(TabControl1.SelectedTab) cList = lst.Item(0)
Considering there is only one listview per tab, it will always be 0. So, question is - How could I determine when that particular listviews Double_Click event happens ? Then I will use it to call a certain Button_Click event?
When I write public events for my business objects, I've adapted the habit of always passing the instance as "sender as Object", in addition to additional specific parameters. I just asked myself now why am I not specifying the class?
So for you with more experience; Do you ever pass the distinct class as sender in an event? And if so, what are your decision criteria for when this is ok/not ok?
I fully realize that what I am proposing does not follow the .NET guidelines, and, therefore, is probably a poor idea for this reason alone. However, I would like to consider this from two possible perspectives:
(1) Should I consider using this for my own development work, which is 100% for internal purposes.
(2) Is this a concept that the framework designers could consider changing or updating?
I am thinking about using an event signature that utilizes a strong typed 'sender', instead of typing it as 'object', which is the current .NET design pattern. That is, instead of using a standard event signature that looks like this:
Dim onThisTable as String ="Name" Private Sub skill_mouseHover(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles button1.MouseHover, button2.MouseHover, panel1.MouseHover, panel2.MouseHover, pbox1.MouseHover
[Code]....
Now I wish to give onThisTable a different value depending what the user pass over (panel or a pbox or a button) but I cant find what is the correct way to compare what type it is ...
Private Sub skill_mouseHover(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles button1.MouseHover, button2.MouseHover, panel1.MouseHover, panel2.MouseHover, pbox1.MouseHover
Is it possible to have a sub that is triggered when any control of a specified type is clicked (or some other interaction), and then within the code of that sub, determine the sender and depending on the sender perform an action? For example, you create buttons dynamically, and assign them a name based on a counter that tells the number of buttons on the form. Now you click on a button, but there was no code written for 'button123.mouseclick' specifically. Instead, you get the name of the sender (button123) and you do something specific to that button.[code]
I'm trying to convert the C# code from this webpage to VB.Everything seems to have converted pretty much fine using an online converter tool, but then I reach the following line:
The fadeOutAnimation.Completed event produces an event with the signature (sender, args), and d, hostGrid and grid are variables local to the function containing this mysterious event handler assignment.
I think I can see that the instruction on this C# line is telling the code to execute the OnFadeOutAnimationCompleted function, using d, hostgrid and grid as parameters, when fadeoutAnimation.Completed occurs, but I have no idea what to even search for in order to replicate this behaviour in VB.net.
I am working on an application using VB6.0, in which mails are to be automatically sent through an SMTP server. The mails which are sent through the server are going into the recipient's JUNK-FOLDER.One way could be adding the sender's domain/ID to Client's Outlook Safe Senders List manually. But instead of setting it manually, I want to add a domain/ID to the Safe Sender's List through my application itself.
(me = an absolute beginner in WPF / VB2010) how to get the type of sender in (ByVal sender As Object)? Purpose: when two different Objects call the same subroutine, find out which one actually called it.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles Button1.Click sayHello(sender) End Sub
following code from c# to visual basic, and I'm coming up with the following error: 'Public Event ItemCheck(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.ItemCheckEventArgs)' as an event, and cannot be called directly. Use a 'RaiseEvent' statement to raise an event.
I am writing a MDI program and I need to know how I can get the index of a MDI Child Form. Is there any possible way to do this in VB.NET 2005?[code] The form that this code is coming from is not the MDI Container.
I would like to create list of child objects from list of parent object. Like If i have list of bookingroom which has one member room then i would like to create list of room from it.
eg. code:
Dim BookingRoomList As List(Of BookingRoom) = New List(Of BookingRoom) Dim RoomList As List(Of Room) = New List(Of Room) BookingRoomList = BookingRooms.FillGrid()
[Code]....
Is there any short cut method instead of iterating over for earch?
Limited to using v2.0 of .Net framework (we use VB.net) due to environmental constraints on our servers.I've got an ASP.net webpage which pulls data from a webservice that performs checks on user accounts in active directory. Operators can check multiple accounts at one time using the web interface. The webservice returns a list(of AccountCheck) objects which themselves contain single properties like username, email address, and List(of AccountError) objects which contain multiple properties.[code]What I want to do is using some kind of repeater, create multiple panels or divs which contain labels showing the username, email etc, and a gridview which has the accounterror list bound to it to show all the errors. The users could be checking 2, 5, 7 accounts at once, and is dynamic.
I have been searching everywhere but I am unable to find a reference to what I need.I have a huge number of entries where each entry is composed of three long numbers:
a b c 1 2 40 2 1 40 1 8 12 3 9 13 8 1 12 ect.
in my algorithm I will find that I need to disregard values in column a which will then lead me to disregard values in column b. I initially thought that I may want to use three arrays and just change the disregarded value to a null value with each iteration. find function that would allow me to not have to loop through the entire array every time. This lead me to want to define the columns as lists where I could remove specific values from the list and reduce the size of the list with each iteration of the algorithm. The problem then is how do I say, listb.remove(8) and at the same time have the corresponding values for lista(1) and listc(12) removed?
'Get the selected index of the list box 'use that selectedindex for the row of the array and get both the quantity and price into local variables in VB
I think I'm having a brain fart on this but I can't seem to figure out why this is not working.
Public Class Radio_Main Dim RadioDial As String = 1 Dim Go As String = "http://" Private Sub pb_Tuner_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles pb_Tuner.Click 'My.Computer.Audio.Stop()
I have a datagridview which I am populating of a database, scrollbars are disabled to allow for autoresize
I created a Scroll Event that causes me some issues: 1. I can scroll down only 2. To move from one row to the next I need to rotate the mouse-wheel up in between two rows - as if the row index isn't being updated 3. The procedure results in an error : Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
Parameter name: index Public Sub grdScroll(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As ScrollEventArgs) Dim RowIndex As Integer = grdAccountTypes.CurrentRow.Index + e.NewValue ' grdAccountTypes.CurrentRow.Index = grdAccountTypes.CurrentRow.Index + e.NewValue grdAccountTypes(0, RowIndex).Selected = True [Code] .....
In a list of timers, how do I determine the index of the item that elapsed without having to iterate the collection as shown below (e.g. can I pass a paramater to OnTimedEvent, or can the collection raise an event to say which item fired???). It's the individual timer index that I need as I'm using it to refer to something else.
(I wont know how many items I'll have in the list in advance so I can't create an individual event handler for each timer - I don't think I should even if I did).
Public Class Form1 Private _timers As New List(Of System.Timers.Timer) Private Sub Form3_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
I would like to get the index of the current row at the PreRender event. Protected Sub GridView1_PreRender(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles GridView1.PreRender Dim idx as integer =... End Sub
I have a parent page and child page, both aspx. All is working, but now I would like to close child page, if user leaves child popup page and goes back to parent page and clicks on something else like page index of Gridview. I CANNOT close popup child page if user goes to another app, or some other location, I only want to close if something on parent page is changed.
I have the PageIndexChange Event set up for other purposes, I would just like to add some functionality, perhaps a script manager to close the child popup page if the Gridview index is changed, java or another way which ever works best.I think I might also need to check if the child page is even open.
