Develop A Tool To Add Users To The Appropriate AD Security Group?

I am trying to develop a tool to add users to the appropriate AD security group for their department (so that they have the right access to their network folders)I have a list of departments (e.g. A1, A2, A3, B4, Sec, DirGen) and there are 3 AD groups per department. One for Managers, one for secretaries and one for normal users. Each group grants different levels of access on the network folders.
So, I'm trying to decide the best method of presenting this data to the user (and, in turn, storing it in my application).At the moment, I have a Combobox for the department (with a fixed list of items) and a combobox for the user type (e.g. Manager, Secretary, User). Once these comboboxes are selected I populate a CheckedListBox with the relevant AD groups names.

Update to my Question the best way to achieve acceptable security is to use ASP.NET Web Site Administration Tool the following is only a demo to use session but it is NOT RECOMMENDED for professional use. follow the advice of PhillFox to achieve better results

Is it possible for a VB.NET web application to check the user's Windows security group and behave differently accordingly?I'd like to disable a certain bit of functionality if the user does not belong to a specific windows group.I've tried using the Microsoft code at url... but get the error "Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference" on the "irc = WindowsIdentity.Groups" line (I have imported all the required namespaces).Does anyone know if it's possible to get the user's security group?

first wanna say, awesome forum here wish i'd found it sooner so basically im trying to create a tool for my group (6 people) that tracks tickets they work, basically we work jobs by ticket request and im trying to create a tool/program where they can enter:the ticket number if they completed,pending etc and notes of the job i figured it was gonna be easy, do a simple GUI that saves the info to a excel sheet or a access DB file.
that is basically how it looks. what im trying to figure out and hoping to get some help on is what is the best way to go about this? would a access DB work out better? (since i am hoping to expand it later like add a auto date/time function etc)how do i get it so when i hit the "submit" button it copies the fields and puts them into the DB file?

I haven't been doing a programming for awhile now. But, I was a VB programmer before. I will be creating a tool to log issues encountered by the users of our system. It will be a web based. I have bunch of users in one of the Active Directory Group. I am adding users from one of my Sql Server table. I want to compare the Active Directory group users with my sql table users and add the users to that group only if they don't exists in that group.
Here is the code I am adding to the AD Group from sql table.

how i can get a list of users who are members of a group in Active Directory. A vb.net example would be great. I can list all users in AD, but cannot get just the users in a group.

I'm trying to match up a specific group name and see if it exists for the currently logged in user using Active Directory roles. If the Group Name exists for the Current User, I want that group name to be displayed in a drop down list. Example: If current user is in BIG Group, display BIG in drop down list.Problem: All I am getting is SIDs and I'm not able to get anything to match up to the group name and nothing will show up in the drop down list.I also get the following Error:Error: Object variable or WIth block variable not set.How do I fix this?? here is the code I am using:

2.Also , in order for the user to be able to use the application, he�ll have to register it then, everytime, before the application loads, it gets verified online that it was registered, maybe validate the registration information or a valid user name and password, no critical personal information. I cannot figure out how to get this call to work.I have searched EVERYWHERE.MSDN is no help at all and the only thing I can find is this vb6 code that doesn't work in .net.I tried to convert it over but I've had no luck.Specifically I'm trying to get the path of the "All Users" Desktop and the "All Users" Start Menu.It would rock if anyone could help me out with this one.
