I have a combo box in my visual basic program and would like it to display text when the database has numbers.
For example, the database has values 1,2,3,4 and I would like the combo box to display "Lifo", "Fifo", Weighted Average" and "Specific Identification".

When I run it, nothing happens. My "For Each" statement I'm not sure if it's doing what I think it's doing. I can't believe I spent 6 hours banging my head against the wall but I finally got it figured out.

View 3 RepliesI am making a program, where the user enters 6 numbers in 6 different text boxes, and it displays the larger of those 6 numbers. But I also want to make it where if the user enters a string value (like S for instance) in the text boxes, it gives an message and says "please enter the numbers again" and the user gets to enter the 6 numbers again. But when I do try to do that, it gives an error message saying conversion from "w/e the user entered" to Double is not valid. If the user just enters the numbers, it works fine. However, I am trying to make it if the user does enter non numeric value, it gives a message window and the user can reenter the numbers again.

This is where I am trying to use IsNumeric to show a message if a user does not enter a string so the user can renter the numbers again, but when the user does enter a string value (say in textbox 1) it gives me an error message saying conversion from "S" to 'double' is not valid.

Then right here this is where I have my series of ifs statements, this part works fine, it displays the largest numbers of the 6 textboxes every time. Error free.

I am trying to display the content of the text box according the number of records in the database. When i do it manually it works but when i do it through the "for" loop i am confused. my code is as below

How to query a record in vb.net using combo or textbox via linq to sql like the search engine? Just like when you search in google or youtube, once you typed in the initial string on the textbox or combo box it will show a drop-down list. I tried to use it in my application using linq method but the problem is it would duplicate on the first string that you entered on the dropdownlist if that record exist on your database after you press the space key. I used the code below which duplicates the records on the drop-down list when you type in your string after the space key.
I just want it to be like in any search engine that when you type in the string or your initial string, it will display on the drop-down list all the records from the database that contains the string you entered without duplication. In my case, I'm trying to query a name from my database. This is how it should work, For example, if you type an initial string in the textbox or combo box a named 'Mark', it should display all the names from the database containing 'Mark' into the drop-down list before it changes into its final string that you entered.

Those who are looking for an example like this, might find it useful (or not). I know i was looking for one like this for over a week. Ok now, to make this codes work properly, you have to make a Database in Ms Access (I used MS Access 2007) . Create a table of two Columns, one name Debit and one name Credit. Both of the Columns Data Types must be Long Integers or you might get some conversion errors at run time. Now save the database in Access 2000-2003 Database format. And last of all, put the database in your projects DebugBin directory to avoid the database Connection Errors.

I'm not exactly sure what this code is doing. When I put 1 in the first number and 10 in the second number, the odd label only shows 9 and the even label only shows 10. Another example is when I put 2 and 15, the odd label comes out as 15 and the even label is 14. I'm very new to VB and programming in general and have just started getting into for...next loops and don't fully understand what the counter is or how the loop is supposed to work. I guess I'm having 2 problems. One is that I don't know how to make the program find the right numbers(my logic is off? or how I set up the loop isn't right?) and the other is the labels are showing only 1 number each instead of all the numbers in between on their own line.

I am trying to create a form that allows users to input two numbers a high bound and a low bound then when you click the calculate button it determines all the primes within the range and displays those numbers within a multi-line text box. It seems I have everything working except how to display the prime numbers, the result from the following code displays nothing but zeros so I suspect that the range is not being saved somehow? I just want something to display like this in a multi line label, not a textbox:

But... I keep getting something like:

I already turned auto size off and expanded the label.
