I looked at the Dispose() method in System.Data.SqlClient.SqlTransaction (using a decompiler):

Why does everyone say in forums that it is Rolling back in the dispose? Where does it rollback?
I have a problem when converting my string to datetime. It was something like this when i tested just now:

View 1 RepliesWe have here visual basic/studio 2003 running in my XP box and I need to install MSXML so I can use MSXML2. I went to the microsoft site and got msxml 4 (code uses that version). I installed it, making sure the SDK was selected to be installed, but when I go back to Project->Add Reference, I do not see it there. Am I missing anything here? My system32 directory looks like this after installing msxml4:
C:WINDOWSsystem32>dir msxml*.*
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is D063-14D7

I am in need of Visual Studio 2003 Express Edition.
Specifically VS2003 C++ Express Edition.
I have a very specific need that cannot be accomplished with VS2005.(trust me...)
If anyone has an old install file for the express edition of VS2003 on their hard drive.
It says I must use only SQL or Access. That is SQLExpress doesn't work. The test connection does work. Trying to do a quick demo project before I spend big bucks. I cannot get my Access 2003 to register so only have 34 uses left.

View 5 RepliesI have a form developed using the Dataform wizard (VS 2003). The Form shows Master-Detail data. The details are showen in a Datagrid. The form automatically loads the data in the Form_load event. Now I want to store the data from the datagrid to a datatable. I am using following code to get the details showen in the datagrid into a dataview. The objdsInvoice is the dataset that holds the Invoice And Invoice_Item data.
Dim DV As DataView
Dim tempDT As DataTable
tempDT = objdsInvoice.Tables("INVOICE_ITEM").Copy

Is there any better way to get the datagird values that are currently displayed into a datatable. The datagrid is bound to the details table in the Master-detail type dataset.
Dear Friends: I have some files in 1 folder directory that show "XML Configuration File" under type. But none of these files show the extension .config. The directory filesare like C0150,C0150_new,C0200,C0200_new etc. I need to change only 1 attribute of each of these files. I need to write a VS.Net project to do this. I have to send the .exe file(from bin directory of this VS.Net project) to my client and they will just double click the .exe file and it will change that attribute in all the .config files.
The C0150 file looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>

I have MainLayout.master that has UC_Menu.ascx on it. I have a page named Customer.aspx that uses MainLayout.master. Customer.aspx also contains a UserControl named UC_Details.ascx.How can I have UC_Menu.ascx call a function that is in UC_Details.ascx with this scenario?
View 3 RepliesI have a Windows Form frmMain() holding seven more-or-less unrelated UserControls, ucFlopsy", "ucMopsy", "ucCottontail", etc...I say "more-or-less" because each of the seven UC has three similar public read/write properties:
IsLocked (a boolean indicating if the following two properties are "Locked")
IsLockedID (if IsLocked=True then IsLockedID is an integer)
IsLockedName (if IsLocked=True then IsLockedName is a string)

I have a Windows Form that contains a custom control container as a UserControl. For the sake of this question, this custom control container is called Dashboard. This container called Dashboard contains numerous other controls depending on their permissions. I need to raise events that are contained on these controls through the Dashboard control and over to the Windows Form.
How can I bubble up the event? I'm using VB.NET for this project, but can convert C# into VB.NET.Also, to complicate matters, the main Windows Form is a VB6 project. So, I'm using the InteropFormsToolkit to accomplish this.
I have two UserControls on a MasterPage. DataEntryUC contains several TextBoxes and DropDownList. NavSaveUC contains navigation buttons. When the user clicks on a navigation button, I will be saving the data entered into DataEntryUC from the NavSaveUC UserControl.
I have a couple of tables in my DB that contain stored procedure names, control names, control types, SqlDbTypes, etc.... that correlate with DataEntryUC.
How do I reference a text box that is on DataEntryUC from NavSaveUC?
I have been working on the following code from NavSaveUC with no luck.
Dim MyControlName = "txtFirstName"
Dim MyControlType = "TextBox"
Dim MyStringValue as String

I have a usercontrol that has a main form and calls another form within the usercontrol to get some data from a database that allows the user to select some items from a CheckedListBox control on the sub form. I want to pass the selected items from the CheckedListBox back to the main form and display the results there. I have a public property called DBList of type List(of String) on the main user control. If I create a reference to the usercontrol form the second form within the usercontrol I get a new instance of a user control. All I want to do is set the property on the usercontrol and close the secondary form. How do I reference the usercontrol from the form within the usercontrol?
Code in UserControl:
Public Property DBItems() As List(Of String)
Get
Return DBItems

I just discovered the joys of UserControl's and I was wondering if it is possible to populate the usercontrol with data from a database in the UserControl's Form.Load event instead of the form the userControl is placed on. I feel it would make using the control a lot easier if it just populated itself without anymore code.I tried it with a ListView but it gave me a bunch of errors, so I didn't know if it had to be done a certain way or if it was just one of those things that doesn't work no matter what.

I am having fun working with System.Threading.Tasks. Many of the code samples I see, however, look something like so:
Dim lcTask = Task.Factory.StartNew(Sub() DoSomeWork())
Dim lcTaskLong = Task.Factory.StartNew(Sub() DoSomeWork(), TaskCreationOptions.LongRunning)
Task.WaitAll(lcTask, lcTaskLong)
That's the extent of the sample.Tasks implement IDisposable, so obviously I'm supposed to dispose of them, but what if I just want to "Fire and Forget"?If I don't dispose, will I leak threads/handles/memory/karma?Am I using tasks "wrong"? (Should just use a delegate and leave tasks alone?)
Can I dispose in a "ContinueWith()"? (That seems like playing Russian Roulette.)[URL]..
When is it appropriate to apply the dispose method to controls?For example in a form that has five group boxes, once the first group box is used to gather user entries and is no longer needed, is it worth it to apply the dispose method to the first group box? Is it needed for local variables, for example a StringBuilder used within a private function which is only used while the function is executing?

I attempting to dispose / close a startup form from a sub. Basically, I using the filesystemwatcher to watch for file creation, if the file is created, run some code and close the form.how to pass in some reference form. Using and new to vs2008. A bit of leap from VB 6.0.

Hello, I have a WPF Window that I show with Window.Show(). When I click X the form closes. But it is still in memory and the GC never comes and cleans it up. Also I do not have any refrences/handles to it.
I am using the following code with the window:
Code:
Public Class PageWindow
Implements System.IDisposable
Public UserPressedExit As Boolean

I was experimenting with ways to get rid of some memory leaks within my application the other day when I realized that I know virtually nothing about cleaning up my resources. I did some research, and hoped that just calling the .dispose() would solve all of my problems. We have a table in our database that contains about 65,000 records. Obviously when I fill my dataset from the dataadapter, the memory usage can get pretty high. When I called the dispose method on the dataset, I was surprised to find out that NONE of the memory got released.
View 3 RepliesOut of pure curiosity, is there a way to free the memory used by a StringBuilder, other than the obvious MyBuilder = New StringBuilder and MyBuilder.Remove(0, Length) (although I guess the later wouldn't free anything, would it?)

View 5 RepliesOn the back of a Windows Form, I get a window DC, create a Graphics object with Graphics.FromHdc, and then dispose the Graphics object before releasing the DC.
Private Declare Function GetWindowDC Lib "user32.dll" (ByVal hwnd As IntPtr) As IntPtr
Private Declare Function ReleaseDC Lib "user32.dll" (ByVal hwnd As IntPtr, ByVal hdc As IntPtr) As Integer
Dim hdc As IntPtr = GetWindowDC(Me.Handle)

Why did they do it this way?Should the DC be released before or after Graphics.Dispose?It is possible that the wrong order can cause resource leaks or memory corruption?
When you set a region equal to another, or set it equal to a new instance, do you have to call dispose on the region, or does VB do that? (I guess this isn't necessarily specific to regions)
ex:
'at some point in the code a region is created
Dim Rgn as New Region(SomeRect)
'....
[Code].....
If Rgn now points to the Rgns(0) clone, what happens to the original memory created by "New Region(SomeRect)"? Do I need to call dispose on Rgn before assigning it to the the Rgns(0) clone?
how do you correctly dispose a shape in vb.net ie when you draw a rectangle using the pen function how do I depose it so that it will disappear from the form, for some reason once its drawn if I draw a new shape it keeps the previous one and just overlays the new one and I use shape.dispose, and pen.dispose?
