IDE :: Creating Data Entry System For Local Community Group?

May 14, 2011

I am trying to create a data entry system for a local community group. I am working with VB.NET 2010 and MSAcess 2000. I am completely new to using a DB in VB.Net. I have created a form with the membership table bound as details on the form and the classes they are attending as a DataGridView. I used all the Visual Studio GUI tools for this. It was reasonably straightforward once I got the hang of things. My problems arise when I try to ensure that a user cannot move to a new record or create a new member without first saving any changes they have made.

I am using ColumnChanging events in the ...DataSet.vb class to set flags to indicate whether any data values have been changed on the form. My problem is that the ColumnChanging events for the classes DGV fire immediately on changing the data whereas the ones for the member details don't fire until I start to move to a new record. I don't know if it is important but my member navigation is achieved by means of a combobox on the form that lists the member names from the table. I have absolutely no idea why this works - it just did; the form updates as soon as the user selects a new member in the combo box.

Forms :: Auto-Detect BarCode Scan Entry OR Manual Entry - Cash Register?

Sep 8, 2009

i am pulling together a cash register that will allow both bar code product entry and manual key entry.imagine if you have a tin of beans in front of you, in a small corner shop they would probably type "47" and then hit "Produce". Fairly straight forward as I have the button Produce to act upon my code and update my salestrans.mdb but,if you scan the bar code I want the same form to handle both 'real' actions, (i assume that keyboard emulation barcode scanner includes "ENTER" after providing 13 digits)....

Q. in perhaps a long winded way i want to know how to kick off an event based on the "ENTER" key being activiated by the barcode scanner)?i do not want to have to hit any buttons if i am scanning bar codes.

Communications :: Differentiating Bar Code Entry To Keyboard Entry?

Jul 10, 2009

I am trying to make a program with a bar code reader for the first time. I am programming with VB 2005. I want to differentiate a bar code entry to keyboard entry. My questions:

1. Does bar code reader generate a keydown (or keypress) event for each of the digits of the entry? For example, if the barcode read: 1234567890, does that mean that there will be 10 keydown (or keypress) events for that single barcode that was read?

2. I have read from the posts that the best way to differentiating keyboard vs bar code input is to analyse the time between keystroke (for less than certain number of milliseconds).

ASP.NET - Deleting Computer Accounts Within AD?

Apr 27, 2012

I'm building out a decommissioning application that will allow an individual to provide an computer name and the utility will go out and purge the computer record from various locations. I'm running into a problem when attempting to delete a computer account from Active Directory. I'm impersonating a service account that only has rights to "Delete All Child Objects" within a particular OU structure. The code below works if I run it with my domain admin account; however fails with an "Access Denied" when I run it with the impersonated service account. I have verified that the permissions are correct within AD as I can launch Active Directory Users and Computers using a "runas" and providing the service account credentials and I can delete computer objects perfectly fine.

Wondering if anyone has run into this before or has a different way to code this while still utilizing my current OU permissions. My gut tells me the "DeleteTree" method is doing more then just deleting the object.

Sub Main()
Dim strAsset As String = "computer9002"
Dim strADUsername As String = "serviceaccount@domain.com"

Save Accounts To A File?

Jul 18, 2012

Well, in my previous thread i needed help deleting arrays, for the codes i use its here[url]...

[code]...

Well, i want to save my array to a file that will be encrypted and then i could read it, example when i have my arrays in the application and i save it, i close my application and then i open it again i would like to load all the arrays and all the items in the "DomainUpDown" with a button, which will be read from the file, but i don't want the file to be seen from the users for secure reasons, i would like it to be encrypted.

What i had in mind was saving it as ini file, encrypting the file to another extension, and encrypt it to binary, but to do that i would use the special folder in the AppData, is there a better way for me to save the arrays and encrypt it and be able to read it again and load it in my application ?

Sorting Accounts In A .txt File?

Jun 21, 2011

I'm trying to make a simple program that stores my accounts in a .txt file. Each account has 3 properties, account, password, and source. I know there are alot of better ways to do this, but I'd really rather use a text file because I'm working with PhP also.

testacc1 password1 source1
testacc2 password2 source2
testacc3 password3 source3

I can easily write this to a .txt file, but how can I go through it?

Flickering - Double Buffered Picturebox - Not Double Buffere - Black Screen With The White Lines

Nov 17, 2010

I have a htpc project that I am working on. The main program loads dll plugins which are basically other win forms. On each of these forms, including the main program, I use a picturebox (a double buffered picturebox) for the background image and then draw everything on it by hand. Whenever I load the form from the dll and show it, I get a weird flicker. It looks like it is the previously used double buffer. Is there any way to clear the background double buffer before the flicker? Or am I going in the wrong direction?

Here's a couple of videos of the problem:

Notice the black screen with the white lines on it or the flash of the desktop after I click "Movies." How do I get rid of that?

Converting System.array To Double() Array?

Jun 12, 2012

just hoping that someone may be able to assist me to convert system.array to double() array.

Declarations are as follows:

Private f_Data As System.Array

Private f_Measures() As Double

Private f_NumberOfObservations As Integer

I then 'fill' f_Data from a range in an Excel worksheet as follows:

f_Data = wsXLSData.Range(wsXLSData.Cells(1,1), wsXLSData.Cells(8, 1)).Value

This seems to work OK. Upon checking f_Data is indeed filled with 8 double type numbers.

I then try to convert this system.array to a double array as follows:

For i As Integer = 0 To f_NumberOfObservations - 1

f_Measures(i) = f_Data(i + 1, 1).value
Next
I then get an error pointing to the line ' f_Measures(i) = f_Data(i + 1, 1).value' of type MissingMemberException was unhandled by user code'

Appending Text File From Different User Accounts?

Sep 23, 2010

I have a piece of software that can be used either on an admin account or a standard user account of a completely stand-alone, Windows XP machine.

I have also set up some log files that the system uses when it either performs an admin function or if an error occurs. the location of these files is a C: location - not (from what I can see) associated with the admin account in any way.

When running the software from the admin machine, the log file is appending fine. When running the software from the standard user machine, the log file causes an error, suggesting that "Access to the path 'C:HNP MTWP Log FilesAdministrative ToolsAdmin.log' is denied.

This error occurs when first setting up the FileStream. Here is my code.

Imports System.IO
Public Class Log
Private Const cnDirectory as String = "C:HNP MTWP Log FilesAdministrative Tools"
