Adding Drag & Drop Like Windows Explorer?
Dec 4, 2010The following website appears to show you you might do Drag/Drop that works like explorer does but I don't know what the code would be in VB, what exactly i'd need or anything else. It's a quite large code base just to make it so you get the same effect as explorer even though it seems to be API's or .dll's that should handle most of the work.
If the API's & .dll's available for this don't handle most of it I don't see why not because well if your meant to get the same effect why is it going to be handled mostly by code? I would think it would be as easy as passing an image or file/folder as string & then there the image is & possibly the functions you want to be allowed or text to be displayed for the drag action & then a little more to determine where your trying to drag to so what the text should be changing to.
Anyways heres the website which has a lot of the information/code in non-vb language, even when translated to VB using online tools I couldn't figure out what did what or what pieces I needed to get a basic drag action to work that has said visual information like explorer does.[URL]..

It will have a button that when you click it it opens a FolderBrowserDialog and it will have an area that displays the contents of the selected folder. My app requires an "Extraction" of a virtual file (almost like a ZIP/RAR archiver would). The problem is, with all of the dragging to explorer solutions I have found online requires you to have a extracted file already on the filesystem (most likely in a temp folder) before you initiate the drag-drop. I'm trying to do is be able to extract the file AFTER the drag-drop request has already been made to the explorer.

Dec 29, 2009I have searched for the past 2 hours to see if there is a control available that will mimic windows explorer. I realise it can be created using TreeView and ListView controls, but this is an incredible amount of work for something that I would have thought would already be available. VB 6 had the DirListBox and DriveListBox which would have made this easier but without the right click context menu
If I had to create this myself, how would I populate the right click context menu to mirror the options available by explorer?
If you look at CDBurnerXP or MagicISO, they have what I am trying to achieve, with the layout and a right click menu containing the same options available in explorer.

I want my program to load the RTF file when I double-click it in windows explorer, however, I also have my program set up so that it always opens the last file I had open, which is stored in an INI file. Also getDirectory or GetFile etc APIs won't work because I don't have a standard drive associated with my namespace & don't have a relative path either.

Mar 3, 2012I have a textbox on a form that is set to allow dragdrop operations from txt files.Basically you drag a .txt file onto the txtbox, the content of the text file is displayed in the textbox.All is working fine, however after the textfile is displayed in the textbox, the text box text is for some reason is highlighted.I don't want the text to be highlighted (or selected) after it's being displayed on the textbox.Second issue, after I close the file that I dragged, for some reason even if I didn't make any changes to the file, it is acting as if the file has changed.In another words, if I open a text file using my MenuItem Open item, and if I do not change the file, If I close the file it's fine it closes.However, if I close a file that I draged into the text box and then close the file without changing anything in it, the stringcompare function is telling me that the file has changed... I can't understand why.
