Context=VS.NET 2005, windows forms
I have created a custom combo that automatically drops when the combo receives focus. When the user uses the mouse to click on another control or the Windows Form the combo list is undropped but the click on the other control is never fired. Is there a way to avoid what appears to the user as a need to double click?
I am creating a program that allows a user to view a list of foods in a combo box, add that food unto a list box, and adds all of the calories of that food together. When the user highlights their select food, the program automatically shows the amount of calories for that particular food in a text box. The program is getting the food and calorie information from an access database. I managed to get all of the food calories to add up properly, however, I ran into a problem. Sometimes, well, most of the time, when I select certain foods from the combo box, the program automatically reselects another random food, usually a food that begins with either an A, B, or C. Also, the other random food that the program chooses usually has the same amount of calories as the food I originally wanted to choose. I have over 6,000 items in the database. I don't understand why this is happening. This is what my code looks like for the button that adds each food to the list box:

I have no idea what to try. It's like the program just skips over random foods, even though all of the information for them is in the database.

View 12 RepliesI have a vb.net application that uses Flash movies (AxShockwaveFlashObjects.AxShockwaveFlash). I have buttons in the flash movie. When they first start using the application, they can single click on the buttons in the flash movie and button responds accordingly. But after a while (and I haven't been able to pin-point an exact thing that changes it or my issue would be solved), the user has to double-click on the button in the flash movie for them to work.

Is there a property setting that prevents an empty row from being displayed in a DGV? I have a DGV that is populated manually, the dataset that contains the data has 2 rows in it. The DGV contains those 2 rows of data plus an empty one. The return value of the DataAdapter Fill is also 2.

However, when I use create a "save as" box, it seems to stop the message appearing at all.
Having trouble with properties in a Class, demonstrated by the code below.If create a class (person) that has another class (address) as a property and set the elements of the address, the set method on the first class never gets called.It also allows the property to be updated although the set method prevents this.

I have a VB.NET form that takes up the whole screen. On Windows XP, the taskbar is not displayed when moving the mouse to the bottom of the screen. I have auto-hide set, and the taskbar is not locked. I tried the same thing on a Vista computer and it works fine. What am I missing on Windows XP? I need the auto-hide feature to work for my app like it does for other Windows apps.
View 1 RepliesI added an splash screen to my app. Then in the project settings I selected it to be used for the splash screen. Now my app won't close when I try to exit my app. I have 'When Last Form Closes' selected for the shutdown mode. So I'm guessing the splash screen is calling Hide() instead of Close(). I can't find a way to get access to the splash screen object so I can try callling Close().

Because a complete list of all options is both impossible and wildly unwieldy, I am only providing about 10 common extensions. I use the 'TransparencyKey' feature on my form to make a 'Panel' control transparent so i can see a program thats running underneath my form. If i try and do a screen grab (Capture a picture) of my form it only grabs a image of the background of my desktop and the program below and not my form.
If i use the normal Windows 'PrtScrn' key to grab a still image it manages to capture my form and underlying programs fine. This appears to be a limitation of transparencykey because as soon as you disable/remove it the screen grab works fine on the form. how to resolve this problem as removing the 'TransparencyKey' feature is not a option as i require this for my program

I have written a small application perform CRUD operations on a Designations table. User search a Designation by Index and can make changes and the updates. I cannot see anything incorrect in my SQL and SQL works perfectly fine. Since i've created my Dataset using the desiner it automaticaly added the Optimistic concurrecy handling to the Dataset, therefore if an update fails it shold throw the DB conccurency exception.That's where the problem is, it doesnt throw the exception, application can retreive can update also fails to update on conccurency violation but when it happense it doesnt show the exception..... since code is long and have BLL and Presentations layers i've added a link you should be able downlaod the code + DB...

View 1 RepliesI'm setting up a program where I would like the user to be able to select a state from a combo box. I can not figure out how to allow to select the abbreviation from the drop down list and also allow them to type a letter and it will select the state from the state or just allow them to type the full abbreviation that would match what is already in the list. It is supposed to be in the drop down list style. I would also like to confirm that the user has chosen a state before allowing them to click a submit button but I'm not sure how to go about confirming it.

i have a combo box without a list of item now i want to do is when a user input a number or text in combo box the text value of the combo box will be saved and when the user input the same number the combo box will not save the same text value. and when the user logout and login back again i want to load the list of item that he or she inputted earlier in the combo box.

If they click Change button a combo box is displayed that allows them to change what was originally in the textbox. The combobox is updated with whatever was in the textbox as shown below.This all works fine but the user can add something in the combo box that is not in the list which is bad.

View 6 RepliesWhen the Point of Sale program we use makes a change to a row in the SQL database, it automatically updates the ModificationDateTime for that row, and the precision is in milliseconds. I have another column called "LastSyncDateTime, and when theModificationDateTime is greater than the LastSyncDateTime, it downloads the row, finds the column that got changed, does its thing in my program, then updates the LastSyncDateTime with the same value as the ModificationDateTime so it doesn't repeat itself on the same row.The problem is that when it goes back to update the LastSyncDateTime, it loses the milliseconds precision, so the SQL Stored procedure to download new changes doesn't work ("Give me all the rows where ModificationDateTime <> LastSyncDateTime").

View 25 RepliesI am using a DrawItem and MeasureItem events to paint a combobox with a DrawMode of OwnerDrawVariable.Basically, I'm trying to have the user highlight a selection with the mouse, and then press the space bar to toggle the Save status of a song list. Then I call the Me.Refresh() event for the form in an attempt to redraw the form and the ComboBox.The problem that I am running into is that only the Combobox itself (not the drop-down area) that is a control on the main form is redrawing, and the text that is behind the mouse-highlighted selection of the drop-down list is not changing from Red to Black as I believe it should. If I move the mouse to another selection, then the color does in fact update.[code]

I have read through some of the other posts and I think what I want to do is slightly different. I have a combo box in VB ExpEd2010 that I want to allow the user to only select from the drop down list. However, I want to be able to set the value in the combo box to something that is not in the list. So the drop down list will have values 1, 2, 3 but I want to be able to write to the same combo box a value of 2.4, 1.2, etc.
