I would like to embed a message in a block of random characters.
MY CODE
Dim File As New System.IO.StreamWriter("G:\VB.NET.txt")
Dim outcome As String
Dim a, b, c, d, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z As String
i m trying to generate a large random block of characters(lets say 100 characters). This below is the code i used to generate a letter but to generate lots of characters(letters) i couldn't.I then wish to display them in a RichTextBox:::
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim rand As New Random Dim letter As String letter = ChrW(rand.Next(Asc("A"), Asc("Z") + 1)) TextBox1.Text = letter End Sub End Class
I have a text box where users will enter 4 digits that are ONLY numbers 0-9. I have blocked all letters and less than 4 or greater than 4 digits. But, for example if I enter 10.0, it will throw an exception, due to incorrect math used later in the prog. So how can I block the use of a (.) or any special character for that matter! I am using specific msgboxes to let the user know what isn't allowed, and would like to do the same for special characters.
What I have so far:
If Val(txtEntered.Text) < 0 Or (IsNumeric(txtEntered.Text) = False) Then MsgBox("Sorry, but letters are not allowed!")
This is part of my block which handles incoming messages via TCP. Sometimes it sends scrambled messages which are unpredictable and i need a Try + Catch block for it:'
[Code]...
I can either get "Input string not in correct format" or "typecast not valid". But this is simply supposed to be routine to run into and be able to handle. but that stupid error message keeps popping up I've heard of JITDebugging, should I use that?
I am using VS2008. I worked on this problem for a time, but I was not successful doing it. Below is the VS file.I need to produce a grid of cells and have some random features as shown below which is an example of a world of (500 x 500) units (or any other size and grid size). It contains three areas (of 11 cells, Value of each cell = 108), two green areas (of 8 cells, Value of each cell = 137) and one river. The start point of the river should start from one of the world edges and finish to another one. Please note that number of feature could increase or decrease according to user inputs. The question is, how can I produce these features randomly? To clarify the question, I will read the number of areas from a form. I need these features so that the number of cells should be distributed randomly beside (attached to) each other in the world. The rivers occupy one sequential grid line. My problem is how can I randomly generate the features according to number of cells??
i am trying to generate 200 hundred characters (Letters) at random but i m get only 10 numbers!! also i need to search for vowels and their position this is what i got so far.
Private Sub btnGen1stchrblk_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnGen1stchrblk.Click Dim randomChar As String Dim randomInstance As New Random randomChar = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz" randomChar = randomInstance.Next.ToString
I have created a client for the popular twitter social network. I am now wanting to add more features to the client, and one of those being a label displaying how many characters are left in the post (as the max is 140). This is what I want to do: (Message Box Amount of Characters Typed) MINUS (140) = NUMBER(Display answer as label).
I'm trying to use a GUID to generate 6 random alphanumeric characters (just letters and number). Is there a way to change the format of a GUID before it is generated. Or must I generate the GUID in its standard format and then manipulate it.
I'm about to make verification code to my app it would be built out of random characters and numbers,i have no problem making a custom one,but before i go and do it i just wanted to ask if there is built in method of such thing .NET environment
I nedd some help in generating a random alph-numeric password for a form that I building. The form should suggest a password that 18 characters long. The user would either agree to this password or enter their own password.[code]When I use this I get a two digit number.
i am making a mini calculator and I have two problems with my current validation setup in the code. The code concerned is below:[code]Basically, I only want to allow numbers in the text box. When I enter a letter for example, the message comes up ok, but then when the box is clicked away, the rogue letter remains. Can someone tell me how to clear it properly? Also, when I use the backspace button in the box (pretend I want to change my input from 3 to 37), then the messagebox is prompted when I don't want it to be. I only want it to appear when a letter is entered.
1) How to I clear the banned characters from the text box after the message is clicked off
2) How do I get VB to ignore any backspace presses to prevent the messagebox from coming up.
For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.
Essentially I am trying to replicate the Windows 7 (In-Windows) activation key TextBox form. The Form where it will auto capitalize letters, remove or deny all non alphanumeric characters except dashes every 5 characters that will be auto-input.I assume this can be done with a fairly complicated replacement Regular Expression but I cannot seem to create one to fit the needs.
This is an Example of what I have right now, but it creates an infinite loop as it removes all characters including dashes, than adds a dash, which changes the text and removes the dash again.
Not sure if too many people know this, but the following line will cause an error:
GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_"
....if the length of GroupName is less than 3 characters. I always thought it would simply return whatever characters in GroupName, but no, it errors. I must be thinking of the old VB6 days. So, I now have to change the code to:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) Then If (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then
Note that the two comparisons need to be on separate lines. If they are on the same line, such as:
If (GroupName.Length > 2) and (GroupName.Substring(0, 3) = "jt_") Then then the code will still fail as the length command is executed at the same time as the substring command- which will cause the error when the GroupName length is less than 3.Just thought that those of us not aware of this should be!
I have two textboxes. I type in one of them and the text gets copied in real time into another textbox. There is one catch. I need to replace specific character with something else.
If I enter a quote " in textbox1, it has to be replaced with " in textbox2.
I started with something like the below code, but obviously this does not work (tried different stuff - this is for demonstration only). In the example below 'a' represents " , and 'b' represents "
Private Sub TextBox1_KeyUp(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.KeyUp TextBox2.Text = TextBox1.Text
With the shape of really large characters such as numbers and alphabetic characters + others, is there a way to get that shape as a REGION please?Imagine a really fat snake forming the letter S or two rectangles placed together to form a large letter L or a T like the shapes in TETRIS.
1) Does anyone know of anything in VB.Net that can translate such shapes into a System. Drawing.Region or know of a project elsewhere that achieves this please?
2) While I'm on the subject, how would you SCALE UP / DOWN a System.Drawing.Region please? How would you work out the Transform Matrix required please?
I'm making an application that will change position of two characters in Word.
[Code]...
Program works good, it is mixing characters good, but it doesn't write text to the file. It will write text in console, but not in file. Note: Program is working only with words that are divisible by 2, but it's not a problem. Also, it does not return any error message.
I'm making a custom control suited for handling passwords. I have created a control that inherits from a text box and I have implemented a lot of things so far. But what i want to do now is create a system so that when a user types It will display his last character typed for a X amount of time. Is there a way to turn only selected characters into password characters and still be able to get the password text from the Text property ?
I've read numerous posts and threads about random number generation, but I havent' run across this.If I generate a bunch of random numbers, the results are radically different if I create a new Random generator for each number than if I use on Random generator for all the numbers. The results are much more consistent and evenly distributed if I use the same Random generator.I would have thought the opposite, because creating a new Random generator each time should reduce the number of random repetitions, if a different time slice is used to create the random number.[code]......
The class Random is out right defective. It always produces the same random numbers in the same sequence. Things I have tried so far is every kind of seed you can think of as well as Randomize. The result is that I always get the same random numbers in exactly the same sequence.
I am practicing using the drawing commands, and have gotten a grass background and black happy face that moves around the background. It's a 10x10 grid of 50 pixels.I want (at the moment, when i press enter) it to generate a random number of trees (15 ~ 25) at random locations on the background. The program doesn't freak out about anything, and the variables seem to be right (using stop commands) but it's not drawing anything. Here is the code for the "GenerateTrees" command I have for when I press enter.
Private Sub GenerateTrees() NumberOfTrees = Int(Rnd() * 10) + 15 For i = 0 To NumberOfTrees - 1 bmap.MakeTransparent(Color.Fuchsia)
I would like to use integers generated by Random.org in a small desktop widow app. Im using visual basic. All My search terms bring up unrelated (to My issue) information. Currently I am using the local random statement/command.
