I'm trying to make it so when you reach or pass certain amounts of experience, you receive 5 stat points, but the best I've been able to do so far is have the program add the points when you are in a small window of 2 values. This is what I have now:

Dec 6, 2010I copied a project I wrote on my XP machine to my other computer with Windows 7 64-bit. When I run it through VS2008 it exits immediately. It does not run a single line of code. The exit code is 0. I need to post what else it says. But I did find a posting about this saying the path to the temp files may be wrong for it but he did not know how to change this. If I create a new peoject and put a command button on it, the program runs. So I was wondering if it is something like the temp files or something else. The machine runs a compiled .exe of the program from the XP machone when installed on the Windows 7 machine. So I do not think it is the program not being compatible.

Jul 18, 2009My typical application has a couple of textboxes, checkbuttons, radiobuttons, and so. I always want to load the settings the user used the last time when the program starts, and also want to save the settings as the users clicks "Save settings" or closes the application. When the user attempts to save the settings, I'll have to check each of the controls for input errors (sometimes they have to have a max length, other times only caps, other times other things, there isn't a rule for them all, everytime it'll be different), and only if everything OK i'll let him save the options. If there is something wrong, no option is saved and my error-control provider will pop up a description of the input type info that should be put in that control.
I've been designing this from scratch for all my projects, but it's being a pain to do it. So I'd thought maybe now was the time to do some library to help me. I thought initially that maybe it'd be a good idea to have all the controls on my form that are going to be part of this save/load process to have an attribute associated with them, something like this [Code]

Close A Program Action
Mar 6, 2009In my work, we have a program done by other company, and we don't have the code to change it. This program register a serie of numbers and then if the user whants, save them to an xml file. But if the user forget to save and close the program, it doens't ask if whant to save the data, it simply close and all data is lost. I whant to know if its possible to build a vb.net application that controls when the close button is press and freeze the program or something to remind the user to save the data.

May 16, 2011I am currently working on a launcher, and it must consist of the following:
- one main routine being called, NO WINDOW may be created at any times after or before this main routine.
- one small form called by the main routine if a certain command was sent through the Command (shortcut).
At this point I use a Windows Form, but it seems a little useless to create and initialize a form if you won't even use it. Any way to make a routine run when my program starts without showing any window? But still make it possible to show that small dialog?
I did this at first but it seems a bit dangerous:

I could probably do it from the client machine pretty well, but really what I was looking for was to inform another program running on the server that an Order has been saved into the database with OrderID:xyz. And have that program take care of sending the email. I have no problem designing this second program, in terms of the basics of responding to an event and sending an email. But my question is: how do I raise an event across the network that this other program will respond to?

Feb 10, 2009I am designing a program that will show a reminder form when the computer is shutting down. (The reminder is to go outside and get the Bluetooth gps aerial.) I have tried using the formclosing event, (triggered by windows shutting down) to flash the form up on the screen using windowstate = normal. (At loading, the form windowstate = minimised). This did not halt windows shut down and the form was only on the screen for a fraction of a second before windows shut down. Can I trap windows shutdown until the form btn_Yes has been selected?

I have looked at the enumprocess api, but this is quite a bit outside my current knowledge level. From what I have read, enumprocess would be suitable as we all run the same program on our laptops and I could check for the change of state of that program. Eg. �OK, program A is closing, the computer must be about to shutdown, so flash up the reminder form.�
